Excellent Stay
We had a great stay at this home! The house was extremely clean & tidy and the floor plan thoughtfully planned. Honestly, everything was nicer than we expected. It’s in a nice little neighborhood less than 10 minutes from the entrance to the Davis Mountains State Park and about 15 mins from “downtown” Fort Davis. We saw deer, stars and pretty plants. Communication with the owner was great. We would definitely stay here again!

Family Spring Break in West Texas
This mountain home was a perfect getaway for our family on spring break with a 12-yr-old and 10-yr-old. The house was quiet, cozy and comfy. My wife and I enjoyed having multiple good locations to ease into the day with a cup of coffee beside the fireplace. The location was perfect for our afternoon and evening adventures — a star party at McDonald Onservatory, seeing the Marfa Lights, Horseback riding at Prude Ranch, visiting Kokernot Field, dining at Reata and several mountain hikes! What a memorable trip! Can’t wait to come back!

Clean. Easy to access. Fantastic view.
This place was just as advertised. Plenty of room. Fantastic view. Very peaceful. We were with a group camping at Ft Davis that were on spring break however we still had school. Internet was great and we could still participate with friends after schooling was finished for the day. The girls did their work in front of the windows on the floor the view was so great v

Beautiful and peaceful house in the mountains
My family of two adults and three young children stayed here, and this place far exceeded our expectations. The views, as advertised, were beautiful. From the back porch, you can easily see both peaks of the McDonald observatory along with two other large mountains nearby. The house paid a lot of attention to detail, from including a first aid kit to including games in the spare office. My wife was quite impressed with the quality of the appliances, stating that both the stove and oven performed well. The house is spacious, and would easily be comfortable, in my opinion, for a family of 6. Overall, this was probably the best Vrbo I've ever stayed at. I can't wait to come back.

Second time around as great as the first!
We enjoyed our time here so much we came back for a second stay! For this visit, we timed our stay over the new moon so we could enjoy the dark skies - and the stars and planets were awesome! The community advocates for the Dark Skies program meaning no bright white lights to disrupt the night sky. The house was very clean, we easily cooked our meals in the kitchen and enabled our passion for puzzles on the high top dining table - perfect! We had a lovely time!!

Fort Davis getaway
Our family enjoyed our stay here immensely! It was the perfect homebase for exploring Fort Davis, Marfa, Alpine and Balmorhea during the day, while relaxing and stargazing at night. The home itself is decorated with care and Texan charm - as native of West Texas, I felt right at home, and I expect first-time visitors to this area will appreciate the authenticity. Plenty of room, comfort and views galore! Hope to stay here again.

West Texas Vacation
This home was the perfect launching pad for our West Texas adventures and a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day. It was the perfect distance to the McDonald Observatory, a short drive to Balmorhea springs for swimming, and a day drive to Carlsbad Caverns. You can’t beat the back patio for coffee and star gazing. The home had everything we needed and was very clean.

Great Location for a Stay in Fort Davis
We planned a trip to the McDonald Observatory, which was a perfect location for our stay in Fort Davis, Texas. The property was very clean, spacious and comfortable, and it was close to the observatory, Fort Davis, Davis, and Marfa. The host helped answer our questions and provide information about the area. We were very happy with our stay and would book again the next time we are in the area!

About the host

Host profile image
I am a 7th generation Texan, and I am very proud of my state and its heritage. My 4th great grandmother came to Texas in 1825, pledging allegiance to Mexico for a land grant in Arthur G. Wavell's Red River Colony. She was a sister to Collin McKinney, a delegate to Washington on the Brazos, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and the Texas Constitution. I am a Registered Nurse that is married to a U.S. Marine and current Navy Officer. I have 3 lovely children; 2 are adults and 1 is a teen. My whole family loves the outdoors, all flora and fauna of Texas. We also love the rich history of our state! We love to hike, birdwatch, hunt, go camping, eat good food and drink good drinks! We love the Big Bend area, where the wild spirit of Texas is still alive! (My profile pic is from a hike in Alpine called "The Desk." This hike is approximately 25-30 minutes from the Fort Davis house.)

Why they chose this property

When at this Fort Davis house, you KNOW you are in Texas! It is decorated with Texas artwork and more. I hand picked everything in this home, and made sure it would reflect Texas honor and heritage. Additionally, everything that you need for a comfortable short or extended stay is here. I sincerely want every guest to have a wonderful time and to return again, and again.

What makes this property unique

The mountain views from this home are fantastic! The sun rises and sun sets are wonderful, and star gazing from the back porch of this home is truly amazing! Humming birds and other birds migrate through this area, so it is an outstanding area to birdwatch. Fort Davis has a Humming Bird festival every year! The grounds around the home are nice and contain trees, agave, shrubs, cacti and other plants. There are books for your enjoyment in the bedrooms; most of the books focus on the West. The home also contains some toys in a footlocker in the office that children are welcome to play with. (Lincoln logs, Jenga Blocks and a few games.) The location of this home cannot be beat! It's near everything of interest in Fort Davis: Prude Ranch, Sproul Ranch, McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis National Historic Site, the scenic loop drive on 118, Chihuahuan Nature Center and more! This property makes a wonderful home base to discover the Fort Davis area and is also great as a stepping stone to/from Big Bend National Park or Big Bend State Park.
