About this property

Cozy with Modern Comforts, Huge Fenced Yard, A+WiFi, Wash&Dryer, Near Ski&Hiking

If you are looking for a mountain get-away to escape from the crowds after a busy day on the ski slopes or hiking trails, this is the perfect “base camp” for you! The magic of this location is the easy transition from ski cabin to summer hideaway. The oversized, fenced yard is under the forest canopy of towering pines, vine maples and lush ferns, providing cool spots for napping in the hammock, reading in the Adirondack chairs, playing yard games and relaxing around a fire. Leave behind the hustle and heat of the city. Bring food for the grill and a good book to take in the fresh mountain air.

We are located at the gateway to Mount Hood - about an hour's drive from beautiful Portland, Oregon. This area is the perfect start from which to explore the many different areas of Mt. Hood with countless hiking trails, ski areas, and lakes to fish in. This cabin is just 12 miles away from the slopes of Ski Bowl, and 18 miles to Timberline Lodge. Small grocery stores, gas station, local restaurants and bars are all just a short drive away. Come prepared to relax and enjoy the beauty of the great Pacific Northwest.

This 2-story cabin was built in 1930. While we have added modern touches throughout, the interior of the cabin boasts original hardwood floors, kitchen cabinets & counters. It offers 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, PLUS a detached 3rd bedroom in the backyard steps away from the main cabin. WiFi speed of 349+ mbps also makes this a great place from which to work remotely.

The living area has a cozy gas fireplace for winter snuggling, and small dining area with seating for 6. Relax while reading a book, watching a movie, or playing a board game the whole family will enjoy. Downstairs living/dining area does not have window coverings.

The original 1930 kitchen cabinets and counters are complimented with a modern refrigerator, microwave, stove/oven, and dishwasher. This fully appointed kitchen is equipped to prepare whatever meals you decide to create. There is also a small 2-person breakfast bar in the kitchen.

Bathroom has heated tile floors, one small vintage sink that is original from 1930, and full-size tub/shower combo with a detachable shower head that we find very helpful when bathing the kids. While the bottom pane of the bathroom window is frosted, there is no window covering on the top half of the bathroom window that looks out to the private, forested backyard.

There is also WiFi throughout the master bedroom.

Twin over twin bunkbed with memory foam mattresses (please no adults on the top bunk)
No TV provided in bedroom. There is WiFi if you would like to watch television on a personal device.

3rd Bedroom (Detached):

There is a TV connected to internet.
Quiet desk space with strong Wi-Fi bandwidth (so kids can play without disturbing your work calls)

If you wish to have a small outdoor fire in the backyard fire pit, there is firewood available to you on site. (During the hottest, driest weeks of the summer there is often a burn ban in effect. During these times you may still use the propane BBQ on the back deck but campfires are prohibited.)
In the summer we also have an outdoor hammock, giant Jenga, and “Corn Hole” set in the backyard.

Cozy getaway
The cabin was ideal for me and my four kids. I'd call the style vintage modern. It really was clean! We loved watching the Olympics and playing board games by the gas fireplace in the living room. The sofa in the living room may have once been a pull-out but is no longer. The studio room in the backyard was a great getaway for my tween girls. Little girl thought the bunk room was fun. Did I mention it was clean? I've stayed in older properties before where I'm nervous to sleep for fear of bugs or whatever, but not here. Great place to stay. At first the TV remotes couldn't adjust volume, but after texting the owners they gave me guidance to troubleshoot and it was an easy fix once I knew what to do. Just before checkout my daughter bonked her head on the porcelain shelf in the bathtub, and the shelf broke. I communicated this with the owners, and they were quick to respond.

Their home Our home.
This cabin is located in a silent mecca. You are located close to winter activities and small charming towns while not far from the city of Portland. It's a location that gives you a home while exploring all these different parts of Portland. The cabin is so clean, charming, cozy and accommodating. It feels like they thought of everything to make this stay lovely and restful.

Perfect fall retreat
This cabin was perfect for my hopes: quiet spot to review the year and look ahead, place to cook and rest well, and a base for day hikes in the area of Mt Hood. For half the stay the weather was Indian Summer perfect for dining outside on the deck, and the rainy cold part of the stay the fireplace quickly made the space cozy and comfortable.

Super cute!
What a fun little cabin! We loved the board games and I had a great birthday there! Would have liked some blinds or curtains on main floor, but the space was absolutely perfect. Would love to come back and see what it's like in the winter as well! Thanks!

Lovely cabin
The cabin was super clean and was well-stocked. It was decorated in a way that was modern but also kept the older look of when it was built. We would definitely recommend it.

Mount Hood Splendor
My wife and I spent 3 days here in late August 2022. the weather was wonderful and the cabins proximity to Timberline Inn and the hiking trails was great. The cabin was furnished nicely and was very clean. We had a problem with how to turn on the shower but after that was solved everything was fine. We would definitely recommend this rental to anyone planning a trip to the Hood Wilderness.

A beautiful Cabin that has everything
We loved our stay at the cabin, it was a truly beautiful place. Mariah and Mark had thought of everything, the little touches made our stay even more special. We will miss the peace and tranquility and the amazing views of Mt Hood driving back to the cabin. The photos don't do justice to the comfort and beauty of the cabin and grounds. We hope to stay again next time we visit Oregon. Thank you Mariah and Mark for being such amazing hosts! 😊

Fantastic experience
We just needed a place close to Mt. Hood so my family from the east coast could experience the mountain, but this cabin turned out to be one of the main highlights of the trip. We loved that there was so much wonderful space outside, especially the kids, 7 and 9. We made a fire, relaxed in the hammock, played games, and discovered the cute little surprises sprinkled throughout the yard. It was absolutely fantastic.

Perfect Little Mountain Cabin
We loved staying at this cabin. Parts of it have been newly remodeled but I love how the owner's left touches of the original cabin in place, such as the counters in the kitchen and the bathroom sink. Loved the heated floors in the bathroom. Huge backyard that our kids loved to play in. And the detached 3rd bedroom was a wonderful quiet getaway. Very clean and well equipped. Would definitely come back again!

My family and I had a great time. The house and property are very clean and well appointed. Everything I needed to cook in the kitchen, I really liked the gas stove. My kids loved the huge back yard, and having it fenced in made it easy for me to relax. Quiet neighborhood but close to all the fun stuff on the mountain. Looking forward to anther visit.

Peaceful place to relax and unwind
The hosts have thought of everything with this home. From heated floors in the bathroom to a secret stash of chocolate between the coffee creamer. Many games and TV watching options, giant yard, and really close to snow activity and restaurants. Definitely recommend this cabin for a small family getaway.

Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. Our family of three really enjoyed staying there during our 4-day skiing trip. The kitchen had everything we need to cook dinners. Even more cute & cozy in person!
Our family enjoyed a few days here in February. This was the perfect mountain cabin surrounded by beautiful old growth trees. Great home base to explore cross country ski/ snowshoe trails in the area. We loved the 1930s charm with a modern touch. (Even loved the creaky wood floors!) The historic ski motif throughout the cabin is perfect. The live edge dining table and end tables are GORGEOUS. Especially enjoyed the fireplace, very convenient being able to set an indoor temperature that it would maintain on its own. So many board games! We enjoyed them endlessly. Well-appointed kitchen. Small collection of spices on hand, plenty of dishes, nice plastic kid set available as well. We let Grandma and Grandpa sleep in the master bedroom, and my wife and I took the detached third bedroom. It was awesome! Very private, TV mounted on the wall, nicely decorated, with an electric heater that allows you to set the room temperature. Desk in the detached bedroom is a great touch, plenty of space to work in a quiet area separated from the rest of the cabin. The WiFi was better than our WiFi at our home in Portland! It handled my Zoom work meetings no problem while the kids were streaming videos. There are technically enough beds to sleep 9 people, but I wouldn’t try to squeeze more than 6 in due to the size. It’s great that the host has already realized this and proactively limited the guest count to 6 in the listing. This backyard is gigantic and very family friendly. I can’t even imagine what it cost to build the brand new fence around it. We can’t wait to return in the summer to enjoy the fire pit and yard games even more. My kids especially loved finding the cute little touches throughout the backyard like the fairy house, log cabin birdhouse, etc. The kids room is friggin adorable. My littles dug the awesome snowboard and ski decals that are tastefully decorating the room. We had forgotten to pack bedtime books, so really appreciated the collection of kid books on hand. Heated floor in the bathroom is a nice touch. Cabin was spotlessly clean. Host was very helpful and communicative. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

We are so happy you have stumbled upon our treasure in the woods. We live in Portland with our two young kids. We are a family of nature lovers and spend our time skiing, snowboarding, hiking and camping. This cabin is our little slice of heaven and we can't wait to share it with you. While we won't be onsite during your stay, we have an amazing property manager who lives nearby.
Thank you for considering our family's cabin. It is truly our home away from home.

Why they chose this property

This is the perfect “base camp” to escape from the crowds after a busy day on the slopes or hiking trails. The magic of this location is the easy transition from ski cabin to summer hideaway. The huge fenced yard is under the forest canopy of towering pines and lush ferns, providing cool spots for napping in the hammock, reading in the Adirondack chairs, playing yard games and relaxing around a fire. Bring food for the grill and take in the fresh mountain air.

What makes this property unique
