About this property

FARM-TO-TABLE eating, good hot tub soak, S'mores around fire pit, seasonal POOL!

We are pleased to once again offer our ever-popular home-away-from-home, fully-appointed, secluded guest apartment with full kitchen, laundry, and private entrance. Newly added: propane "wood" stove! Queen bedroom, king bed in large alcove off living room, and comfy (no kidding) double pull-out sofa in recently redecorated and enlarged LR. Fully stocked kitchen/DR combination with all appliances including dishwasher and microwave. Entrance is through a heated mudroom storage for skis, boots, and all manner of sports gear. Bathroom with double shower, washer and dryer. Large closets, cable TV, DVD, CD stereo. Fenced in brick courtyard for outdoor grilling / dining and just-added private fire pit around the corner next to the newly-installed deck for hot tub. Large yard, POOL in season. Second apartment available for additional guests.

Convenient to Williamstown, MA (6 miles) and to Bennington, VT (6 miles); both with scores of recreational, entertainment, culinary, and cultural venues. Many agri-tourism opportunities, farm-to-table dining, world class art galleries and cultural venues, superb hiking and river rafting and boating, top drawer theater festival, and regional theater, an authentic drive-in theater AND a destination diner.

Where else can you stay and choose to go to Saratoga Raceway one day, hear the Boston Symphony (or James Taylor) at Tanglewood the next, go white-water kayaking on the Battenkill after that, then see a Broadway touring company at Proctors one night and a first run production at the Williamstown Theater Festival the next, hike the AT the next day and maybe even the day after that (we have two access points), and then wrap it all up with a shopping spree at one of our premium outlet centers? There is so much to do here, if you spent the entire summer, you couldn't do it all.

Dog permitted under most circumstances. Please request the Doggie Dos and Don'ts and tell us something about your pet!

gorgeous !

My partner, puppy and I came up for a long weekend whilst attending a podcast festival in North Adams. Sandy, the property manager, was a total gem. We were spoiled with the most beautiful mid-October weather, but the energy/aesthetic of the Garden apartment was the cherry on top of an incredible weekend.

Basement apartment in the mountains

We were grateful to have this vrbo as a back up to our original vacation that was cancelled due to a hurricane. we booked in on a friday and checked in on a monday. it was a good size for our family of 6. however the ceilings were low and my husband is 6'3". the only bathroom had a small shower (definitely not good if you are a larger person) with no grip bars and was too slippery for my 70 yr old mother in law. the bathroom also created a lot of humidity as there was no window. however, there was a dehumidifier that we had to empty almost every day. no A/C in the back bedroom (near the bathroom)made it uncomfortable at night. However Sandy made our check in very simple and she even met us early. she was available via text and responded quickly whenever we needed anything. the pool was great but the trees near it created a little too much shade for us. otherwise it was a great little apartment that was 10-15 minutes away from shops and entertainment. great spot if you are looking to get away and have some peace and quiet.

Rustic, Beautifully Appointed, Fun Space

We loved our time here. Great for kids as long as they're not too young (ours are 4 and 7). Surprisingly roomy, well appointed, and very well maintained.

Great place to stay

We got off to a rough start with what seemed to be a communication error between owner and manager, but the rest indoor stay was very nice. The unit wasn’t property prepared (not very clean) and despite really trying to be proactive on my end to avoid check-in issues we ended up arriving at 4 with no code to get in and no one to greet us. I called the owner and she took care of it, contacting the manager. Unfortunately, I was traveling with my 79 year old mother who had just endured 2 days of travel to get to her granddaughter’s graduation and it was hard in her. On a happier note, the property is great! I think it was just a communication error and that it was a rare occurrence.

Designed with host in mind

Pictures don’t really show it is right next to the highway. Or that you may be enjoying time in the living room when there are suddenly people able to see into your private area. Check in was a headache with additional fees buried in pages of paperwork and conditions. We felt rushed to get there on their timeline. To the user it feels like you’re requiring us to do a research project to lay our head down for two nights. And the fees felt like an upcharge sprung upon us. Fees should be built into the price structure so the price on the website is the price you pay. Forms should be requested through the app at time of check out. Guests should have one point of contact, not several who want different things. Overall we felt deeply annoyed and like we were walking on eggshell. The atmosphere was very uptight, there were all kinds of signs about what you must and must not do, but no signs saying “this is it”, “this way to hot tub,” and even though they advertise a heated pool, it was not open. I see the host’s responses to others regarding privacy but from the listing I too thought we were renting a small home off the beaten path. It’s the basement of a closed art gallery with another apartment above it and people in and out.

Good place for a weekend getaway

Property was clean and everything was as listed. Good value for the $ compared to other nearby places. We never received the information from the property owner re: code to get in, but when I called, she was very responsive and got the onsite manager there within minutes. Great location for activities in nearby Bennington, VT, as well as Williamstown and N. Adams, Mass.

Lovely property

We loved staying here! The place was spotless, comfortable and well stocked. There was a small issue with the lockbox when we arrived, but after a quick phone call Sandy arrived and all was well. The location is great - we visited both the Clark and MassMoca while we were there. Of course, it was wonderful to have the hot tub. The pool looked inviting, but the weather was too cold and damp for us to take advantage of it. Would happily stay here again.

Absolutely Wonderful!

This is going to be a bit of a weird review. We were supposed to stay here but the catastrophic VT rains left some dampness in part of the space so the owner upgraded us to the unexpectedly empty upstairs barn apartment. So first let me tell you what is the same: Hot tub and pool, delightful. Fire pit and huge lawn, wonderful. Easy access, right of the road and near great places in MA and VT but you could just hang out here and escape it all. The road is close but still very private. Owner is super nice and communicative and Sandy the manager is just fantastic. And if the downstairs is anything like the upstairs, just know that the pictures are exactly what you get so I would trust the downstairs is as perfect as the upstairs. If you are bringing pets, they were so nice and accommodating. The rules are crystal clear and they even laid out sheets so our dogs could sit on one of the sofas with us! We'd absolutely come again!

Vermont Getaway

My husband and I enjoyed this property and location for a 3 day trip to Vermont. We were roughly 10 minutes from downtown Bennington, where we enjoyed numerous local restaurants. After a day of exploring and hiking in the area, the hot tub was a perfect way to relax and end our day. Everyone we met was so friendly, and we hope to return to Vermont in the future!

Disc Golf Weekend with Friends

Came down from Montpelier for a weekend disc golf tournement with friends. It was a great location with privacy. Clean unit with a clean hot tub. Nice grill for grilling. Had all the amenities you would look for at home. Was like home away from home. Would definitely stay there again! Thank you for an amazing weekend!

Early April Getaway

Me and my SO stayed during early April to celebrate our anniversary, and had a wonderful time here! The owners are very responsive and kind. 10 minutes from Bennington and Williamstown, and a convenience store was just down the street. Nice views of the sunset, plus neighboring houses that were visible, but not within earshot! Made us feel very cozy without being too far from civilization. The hot tub was clean and refreshing, but not easily accessed barefoot, so make sure you have flip flops! Inside, we had everything we needed to make small breakfast and dinner meals. The master bedroom is integrated into the living room area, which both looked nice and was convenient for just the 2 of us. The second bedroom has its own heating unit which is a nice bonus since the main heat is in the living room. Lots of delicate knick-knacks so I would be careful bringing children that like to be rowdy. Overall we had an awesome experience seeing the mountains and enjoying a soak in the hot tub after hiking local trails! Highly recommend!

Weekend Ski Trip

We arrived at the property Friday afternoon and we were greeted by the property Manager who let us in and showed us the place. The property was accurately described online and had pictures of the accommodations. We prepared meals here and the kitchen was outfitted with all the necessary utensils. We skied at Mt Snow which was about 45 minutes away. We then returned and prepared and ate dinner then enjoyed the comfortable accommodations and Hot Tub. We left on Sunday after making a full breakfast and cleaning up. It was a nice place to stay !

What can I say? We are creatives who love the beauty and serenity of this place. We spent our adult lives in Fairfield County CT with a 8-year sabbatical in Vermont, and looked for a location that would not only fulfill our space requirements but meet our emotional needs as well. We share our environment with Molly McDuff a happy. over-enthusiastic hound/herder/wolf mix! We've always loved one-of-a-kind places, and this definitely fits the bill. We no longer live full-time in Vermont but you will occasionally find we welcome you in person.

Why they chose this property

Well, this is more than a vacation rental; it's an entire lifestyle. Pownal Valley is probably one of the most beautiful in all of Vermont. Rolling limestone mountains might not make for double black diamond ski runs but they do make for fabulous vistas. Our views are without challenge anywhere throughout New England. Our complex is convenient to Route 7 but our guests ALL say the property feels totally private and peaceful.

We moved here full-time in January of 2007. In a portion of our barn complex we operated a commercial photo studio and a craft gallery and later added a homemade ice cream service. Personal events caused us to move back to Connecticut where we can be helpful to our family and pursue some other interests, although we are the fill-in workers in a state that often experiences labor shortages. In the meantime, you can continue to enjoy our beautiful Vermont property.

What makes this property unique

This is all about peace and relaxation; and not a partying place by any stretch. For our rental guests: Fenced in courtyard for grilling and dining. Fire pit for ghost stories and s'mores. a private hot tub for soaking those aching bones. Full-length lap pool for a leisurely swim or a good workout. AND a large flat, safe yard for kids and dogs to play!

Oh, did I mention there are about a million things to do around here?
