About this property
Atypical apartment in the center of a Provencal village - garden, terrace, patio
If you like the atypical, the feel of the old and loads of character, step this way to explore our garden flat - entirely renovated in late 2024 (hence the lack of ratings!) - with patio and terrace...
Park up just in front of the house, push open the garden gate, climb a few steps and meander through the wild, partly-walled garden - planted with fig trees, an olive, rosemary and lavender (not to mention a table or two for picnics) - to the garden flat...
As you step inside the apartment (yes, a few more steps), in front of you you'll see the bedroom, with vaulted ceiling, windows overlooking the garden (including a window seat), double bed and en-suite shower.
Through the passageway is the lounge with its all-new built-in kitchen (microwave oven, fridge, etc.), loo (with washing machine), two sofas, bookcases – and two outdoor spaces...
The covered patio faces south (but is protected from too much sun), while the secluded terrace (with iron table, wooden sofa and chairs, etc.) faces east - both overlooking the garden, of course, and Cezanne's celebrated Sainte Victoire.
The renovated decor is a mix of contemporary and Provencal style with very large windows that fill the rooms with light.
The village of Vaugines is a peaceful hamlet equidistant between Aix and Avignon, two of France's great cultural centres.
This picturesque village is popular with cyclists (that's why chose to live here!), walkers and horse-riders. It boasts a shop-cum-bakery, a bar (serving pizzas and the like) and top-notch restaurant.
Vaugines is situated on the crest of a hill between the villages of Cucuron and its better-known neighbour Lourmarin, the final resting place of Albert Camus.
Vaugines' claim to fame is that parts of Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources were filmed here.
Our gite is likely to appeal to visitors looking for homely charm and comfort, and who enjoy the outdoor life, especially walking and cycling.
The gite is also a place to recharge your batteries if you're hungry for peace and quiet... but still want to be close to the historic cities of Aix, Avignon or, on the coast, Marseille and Cassis.
As ours is an old Provencal house, it is not suitable - in spite of our best efforts - for anyone who struggles with walking or for young children.
