About this property

Cozy Modern Scandi cabin in SW Wisconsin

Our modern space of 320 square feet packs a lot of amenities. Each area is thoughtfully designed and delineated. The floor plan and 11-foot vaulted ceiling are open and expansive. The ceiling is a Mondrian work of art with its maple wood grain and black reveal. The space has a modern Scandinavian design aesthetic with a nod to the owner's Norwegian heritage. The warm tones, wood grain, and textured textiles used throughout will wrap you up in "koselig" -the Norwegian word for cozy. The space is perfect for a couple or solo traveler.

Curl up with a good book in the cozy window nook of the living room area. Enjoy cooking in a fully stocked kitchenette that has everything you need for simple meals. Delight in your morning coffee ritual with our coffee & tea cart. The separate, full bathroom has on-demand hot water for long showers. Sleep comfortably on a queen bed hidden behind a 5-foot pony wall in the sleeping area.

The cabin's high-speed WiFi allows guests to stay connected to work or school while enjoying a Driftless Area getaway. The patio of over 350 square feet of stamped concrete was designed to give privacy and fantastic views of the pond, hills, and wildlife right on the doorstep. There is an outdoor clawfoot bathtub for bathing under the stars and bistro lights. Comfortable patio furniture, an LP gas fire pit, and the ability to roll the table easily outside provides a great place to have a romantic dinner.

We put a focus on large, vented/screened windows that flood the space with morning and afternoon light. In the summer, open the windows to hear the tree frogs and crickets chirp away. The window locations were designed so that no neighbors are situated to see directly into the cabin. Window coverings are provided on all the windows and the front door to give privacy.

We are 10 minutes from Richland Center and the AD German Warehouse designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, 25 minutes from Spring Green, 25 minutes from Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin and American Players Theater, 45 minutes from Devil's Lake, Wisconsin Dells, and Viroqua. There is kayaking on the Pine River, bike riding on the Pine River Trail, hiking, and snowshoeing can be done on the property and nearby Ash Creek Forest. Class A trout stream-Willow Creek across the highway, a short walk away.

Excellent stay, beautiful cabin.

We had such an amazing stay in this cozy little cabin. This is a beautiful cabin with just enough room for a two people to sit back and enjoy the space. Pictures and all information was accurate and the host Marty was great throughout the whole communication process. Overall, we loved it and would highly recommend!

About the host

Host profile image
We have been married for over 30 years, have 3 adult children, raised 5 foreign exchange students, and have had multiple careers. Marty has done real estate/insurance sales, retirement education, and relationship management, and now is the tourism director for Richland county. Teri has been a Labor & Delivery nurse, a professional photographer, and has been a flight attendant with Southwest Airlines for 5 years. We love travel-domestic and international and have stayed in many guest homes around the world.

We have recently remodeled some unused space in our farmhouse so we can open our home to guests. We started our agri-tourism business 3 years ago doing guided tours of farms, cheese factories, wineries, and apple orchards. We love good food, sustainable living, and meeting new people. We have fully remodeled our 1929 Craftsman home during 202 and we purchased 2 acres a year ago just .5 miles down the road. We call it the lower farm. We have expanded our hospitality business to include this property-The Mighty Pine cabin and sauna, We love to host people and can't wait to expand our tour business as well. We provide snowshoe rentals, Snowga classes and guided instruction/tours in the winter, and UTV tours of agritourism in the summer.

Why they chose this property

What makes this property unique

This property is absolutely stunning. It has trees, a newly seeded lawn, views of the surrounding hills and valleys, fields, prairies, and a pond that attracts much wildlife. In the summer, tree frogs and crickets create a symphony of sounds. There are lighting bugs/fireflies everywhere and there are clear views of the night sky. It's a bird-watching paradise.

We are trying to create a place of wonderful amenities and beauty. Perfect for a weekend getaway for couples, families, and solo travelers. We want to serve the wheelchair community with a rental unit that is designed for their special qualities. We also offer many unique experiences with our tours and equipment rentals. We like to visit and get to know our guests as well and you will likely see us come down to the Lower Farm property from time to time. It has become a dream come true!
