I rented an apartment from Mr. James Graham via the Vrbo app from January 2 2022 to check out on January 24 2022 for a family vacation. My parents were visiting from outside the United States with my little sister. It was meant to be a memorable experience after the hardships from the pandemic.
Unfortunately, the apartment did not turn out to be all that it was advertised to be on the website. The television in one of the two rooms was faulty, the drawers in the bedroom were not durable as the nails fell off from the drawers in one of the rooms shortly after we moved in and the screw on one of the toilet seats was lose and shifted about each time someone sat on it.
We reached out to Mr. James to complain first about the TV. He promised to send someone to come check it out. Someone did show up and said the TV needed to be replaced. This was about a few days into the first week after we moved in. We waited in vain for the replacement TV to come but it never did. All phone calls made to Mr. James were neither answered nor returned. Several messages sent were also not responded to. We therefore gave up. Find attached screenshots of us trying to reach him.
In the last week of our stay, there was something that sounded like an explosion in the apartment complex where Mr. James apartment is located. This caused the power to go off. It was also extremely cold on this day because it was snowing. Again, several phone calls were made to Mr. James and messages sent. He neither answered the calls nor returned them. At the end, we had to call Georgia Power on our own and it took about 2-3 hours of being in the dark for power to be restored. All through this ordeal and afterwards, Mr. James never bothered to reach out to us.
On the last day of our rental, we went out for a quick errand and came back to the apartment at 10:19am to get our luggages out as my parents had the catch an international flight back home. To our amazement, we found the apartment already locked. Countless phone calls were made to Mr. James and several messages sent to him to open the apartment so we could take our belongings. True to his nature, Mr. James ignored us. We stood out in the cold for several hours not sure what to do. We reached out to Vrbo customer service and we were told that there was nothing they could do on their end to let us into the property. We were informed they could also not reach Mr. James as he was not responding to their messages/calls.
