Why My Place is So Special

From 30 feet of elevation, enjoy the best Maine offers: expansive skies, breathtaking views, ocean, 15 private acres of meadow, pristine forest and tidal marsh. Your big neighbor is Rachel Carson. To get to the beach, it just takes a few minutes of normal walking down a field path and then on an enchanted private road bordered by pines and marsh. Or if you prefer drive as there are a few parking spaces. Fishermen fish at Mousam River. (We provide rods.) Or, sit by the waves and cast into the crystal blue surf. You can easily get your fishing license online at the Town of Kennebunk. Or if you like boating, take out your light-weight kayak or canoe. Shops rent them in Kennebunkport.

A swim in the in-ground heated pool will awaken you in the morning and relax you in the evening. The water pump works 24/7 to maintain cleanliness. Around the house are 3 large decks, several lounging chairs, tables, a barbecue and outdoor games. For all ages and for all weather vacation enjoyment, play in the large Family Game Room! Enjoy ping pong and numerous games and puzzles in relaxing nooks.

Ocean Hill Farm 1785 consists of two houses, joined by a breezeway. There are 3 bedrooms in one part of your house: the downstairs master bedroom with ensúitte bath and two bedrooms upstairs with one full bath in the hallway. The furniture is mostly new, attractive and comfortable for all ages. Enjoy the original artworks, many of museum quality. The big open living-dining area, with comfortable seating for ten people, is well lit by large windows with great views of rolling fields, marsh, some ocean, great sunrises and reflected sunsets. Bring your favorite sheet music to play on the Spinnet piano. Through a breezeway, four friends or additional family have two bedrooms and downstairs bath. The upstairs Ocean Room with sitting area has a gorgeous view of the ocean. The large, downstairs Hummingbird Room, with sitting area, features mesmerizing views of hummingbirds, fields and forest. The Pool House features a colorful sun room with nine large windows where you feel you are outdoors. It has toys and building blocks for small children and comfortable seating for adults. From it, occupants of the Pool House have their own door to the heated pool area.

Four bedrooms have air conditioning and the one with the twin beds, several good fans, including two new Dysons. Four rooms have queen sized beds and one twins.

A wired alarm system is available for the main house.

In addition to swimming, other outdoor activities abound: walking on the many trails; bird-watching; shooting nature photographs; kayaking from the nearby dock on the Mousam River or from the beach; fishing for stripped bass at several locations; tennis courts in West Kennebunk; cycling on private roads and star gazing into dark skies.

On dark nights, your own astronomer, an astronomy instructor at U. Southern Maine, Bernie Reim, will show you your location and much more in the universe, using a 200x telescope and a sky laser beam. His fee is $50-80. Call him at 207-3372749 to set up an appointment.

From Ocean Hill Farm 1785 you can see all the JULY 4th FIREWORKS from the Kennebunks, when they are permitted. And on special nights, be mesmerized by fields of fireflies.

We apply environment friendly insect spray on the lawns, keeping 90% of insects far away.

When you wish to leave your wonderful paradise, you're two miles to the splendors of Kennebunkport.....boating, golfing, The Clam Shack, many top-notch restaurants, shops, Ben and Jerry's ice cream and broad sidewalks to comfortably walk around Town.

All the charms of ocean summer get-togethers await you at Ocean Hill Farm 1785 at competitive pricing. Book now!

And think about a winter rental!!!

Easy access to beach . Love the heated pool. There is a house going up right next door so I would check with helen about that before booking. We only had one noisy day. Otherwise lovely stay

Perfect Family Spot
The house is the perfect size for a family. We had plenty of space and enjoyed the game room, heated pool and short distance to the beach. The property was beautiful (minus the construction next door). Definitely bring bug spray, due to the wet weather the mosquitos were everywhere! Thank you Helen for sharing your house! It was a wonderful family vacation!

Location is amazing! Very private, secluded, and a lovely walk to a very private beach. Also close to Kennebunkport and a Ogunquit. Convenient to stores as well. House was spacious. We especially enjoyed all of the outdoor space. Screened porch is a nice bonus, and the pool was enjoyed by all.

Coastal Maine Wonderland
My family and I heartily recommend Helen’s place if: You fancy a morning or evening walk on a beautiful, nearly-empty beach, after a short stroll down a forested lane. You enjoy a swim in a beautiful, big, constantly-heated pool that looks over lake, field and forest as far as you can see. You like a big, rangy, comfortable house with all the conveniences and room for a big group but intimate privacy on several decks with landscape views. You like being just minutes from a beautiful Maine coastal town, while staying in a natural landscape so still at dawn that you can hear the birds wake up, one by one. We like all those things and, after many years of renting summer houses, we found Helen’s place to be the most memorable.

The Farmhouse was enjoyable and very roomy
When driving there we came in the back way and found the front way later. Walking into the house was the stairway going upstairs. the kids loved it so they had the 2 rooms and and bath. the rest of the house was delightful and cozy and loved the view and the pool and the beach was not what we from the south are used to but it was relaxing. I reccomend this house for large families..

Wonderful vacation home
I spent a week at the house with my sons, nephews, and other extended family. The house was a perfect size for us all and had all the amenities that we needed. The property is peaceful and we enjoyed watching the wildlife that wandered through and butterflies that fluttered all around the fields. The heated pool is fabulous and the kids hardly wanted to go to the beach because they had so much fun in the pool. The reserved parking space at the beach was great and the beach rarely had more than a handful of people on it. Parson’s Beach is beautiful and relaxing and there are lots of rocks and tide pools for kids to explore. It was easy to communicate with Helen and she responded quickly to any questions. I highly recommend this house for a relaxing beach vacation!

Convenient to beautiful beach and the Kennebunks
Quirky but convenient home close to Kennebunk and Kennebunkport where we enjoyed kayaking, biking and whale watching with local tour groups. Beach was beautiful and the pool provided a nice alternative to the chilly and sometimes rough ocean.

Great location!
The highlight of this house is the location-It’s beautiful and close to beaches. The house is certainly different but very functional. We all agreed the beds are very comfy, having two kitchens was a treat, excellent washer dryer, dishwasher, and lots of outside spots to hang out. Helen is very easy to reach if you have questions or concerns. Some parts of house could use some TLC, but the location is a 10 plus.

Wonderful Maine Experience
The house was perfect for a group of five that ranged in ages from 8 to 83. The house has so many different rooms we hardly had time to explore them all. It offers the best of two worlds — a heated pool to swim and an amazing beach to explore. We rarely left the property but Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are just moments away for take out and exploring. Helen was easy to communicate with and provided lots of information on the house and things to do. Great experience!

Great Maine family vacation
We certainly had plenty of space to spread out. We were fortunate to have a really hot summery week. We all loved the pool but also spent many hours at both the private Parsons Beach and several other Kennebunk beaches. Our hostess was very accessible and bent over backwards to make everything really enjoyable

Charming house in idyllic location
My extended family loved our stay at The Farm (ages 74-15 months). The house layout is a bit quirky but worked well for a large group. Good WiFi if you need to work. Beds were very comfy. Because it is located next to a wildlife preserve and marshland the wildlife viewing is great (bald eagle, porcupine, turkeys, egrets, herons to name a few) but there are also ticks and mosquitoes. Definitely recommend some bug spray for outdoors activities but there is a lovely screened in porch with a table and plenty of windows with screens. It is so quiet and peaceful at the house but only a 10-12 min car ride to bustling Kennebunkport.

Wonderful home- close to the beach- great pool too.
We had such a wonderful time at this house- very large enough for our party of 8 and has a great funky vibe. The pool is so relaxing, there are at least 5 separate decks to catch the sun and it is a short drive (with your own parking space) to a very private beach. Parsons beach is truly one of a kind- never crowded, very wide, especially at low tide, and quite enjoyable. We had the quintessential Maine experience with lobster rolls and enjoyed the quaint Kennebunkport town. We would definitely return as Helen was the perfect host. Thank you for a truly enjoyable vacation!!

We had an amazing time. Communication with the owner couldn’t have been better. The house was spacious and spread out which was perfect for our teenagers. The beds were very comfortable. The pool was so refreshing and at perfect temperatures every day thanks to the heater. The views from the property were so pretty and having the private beach close by was convenient for morning and evening walks. The house is less than 10 minutes from town which was perfect. We would definitely rent again!

Private family getaway
Beautiful spacious home with endless amenities. We needed a large rental home for our family with privacy and this was superb! Lots of bedrooms with three bathrooms was more than sufficient. Helen the owner was super easy to contact if we needed anything or just a general question about the property. Privacy was top notch and a short walk to the private beach was great. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves everyday. The heated pool was the best! The whole family swam from sun up to sun down. Water never went below 82 degrees and very clean. Overall a very comfortable and clean home to rent and looking forward to coming back in the future.

Parson's Beach Maine Vacation
The Property Common Space is very roomy and comfortably furnished. Some of the bathrooms and bedrooms could use a little work and updating. With children and beach toys etc. You really cant easily walk to the beach from the house and you need to drive about a 1/2 mile to a private space near the beach and the beach - Parsons beach is a gem ! There is a private pool at the house that could also use a little care but is great after a day at the beach. There is also an outdoor shower to wash the beach sand off. You do also have a partial ocean view from 1 bedroom. Overall the property is a bit quirky but nice and it works for a larger family.

Wonderful Stay!
Our family group of eight had a great stay at Helen's comfortable home. The place was clean and well equipped with everything we could have needed. We did rent a few items from Babies Away (delivered to the doorstep from Portland) for the two-year-olds. Helen greeted us upon our arrival and gave us all the information we needed. During the week, she was gracious and prompt to answer any questions we had. The sparkling pool was a highlight for early morning or afternoon swims. We spent much of our days at lovely Parsons Beach, about a half-mile walk or drive down a quiet road with views of ocean on one side, marshland on the other. The kitchen stove was a bit slow, as other reviewers have mentioned, but we did just fine, using the grill for most of our meals. It's a quick drive from the secluded home to Wells (for Congdon's donuts and the grocery store) and to Kennebunk and Kennebunkport for outings and restaurants. A magical week indeed! I highly recommend this rental.

Parsons Beach redux
The Parsons Beach area of Kennebunk is very special. A wonderful beach, tidal rivers and basins, nature areas with level paths, and easy access to everything from amusement parks (Funtown, Splashtown) to dining and shopping at every price point, and many oceanside towns. 2019 was the second year in a row that we had an extended family vacation on Parsons Beach. The Blue Heron was great: a heated swimming pool, allowance for pets, and a bit more seclusion than in 2018. The house has many separate areas available, such as three porches (one screened), a large game room, a small second kitchen off the game room and pool, and a very large living and dining area. The “cooks” had some issues with the oven, but most meals did not need it; by the time we left, I believe they had made peace with it. The grill is the hottest grill I’ve ever used. One caution about Maine for kids and pets: ticks. I spoke with a vet out there who told me that the normal tick medicine is not effective. Before my next trip w/ a pet, I’ll have my flatland vet check with a vet in Maine about preventive medicine. The ticks were not a health concern, just an annoyance. People do spray for them, but I doubt the effectiveness. I’d return without hesitation. Based upon two years’ experience, if booking in any of the houses on Parsons Beach, sooner is better than later.

Wonderful Family Getaway
This was the PERFECT place for our family vacation. Helens beautiful, secluded Farmhouse is comfortable and spacious with all the amenities that our children and grandchildren needed. The comfortable bedrooms and lovely and open family room and large dining area accommodated all of us including plenty of room for two babies and all their necessities. The farmhouse is rich in history and yet has all the modern appliances that we are used to. We loved the beautiful and picturesque views from the grand in-ground pool and the many decks and screened porch. The ten minute walk to breathtaking and private Parsons Beach made our family vacation amazing! We have so many wonderful memories to cherish of our Kennebunk getaway!

About the host

Hosted by Helen

Host profile image
I spent vacations here as a child and my children grew up here. We have always appreciated a deep connection with the nature it offers. Our property is relatively quiet. Deer, turkeys and the occasional fox inhabit it. We all enjoyed being surrounded with meadows, woods, salt water and fresh water swimming, ping pong, indoor games and many outdoor games and activities.

My favorite part of being a hostess is seeing the expressions on my guests's faces when they enter the living room and see the view. In a second, they are delighted and at home.

Why they chose this property

My mother's grandfather moved here from Alfred, Maine, in 1890. It is said our two beaches comprise the longest stretch of ‘undeveloped’ shoreline on the East Coast. Crescent Surf is so isolated, the U.S. Military stationed here during W.W.II. scaring my mother one time when she came out from swimming in the ocean.

I moved here in 1978 with my two sons after I inherited the Farm with its large acreage. I wanted my children to grow up with the wonders of Parsons Beach, nature and the excellent schools of Kennebunk.

What makes this property unique

Col. Hart received the land between Little River and Mousam River as an acknowledgment of his contribution to the War of Independence. He chose the hill where my house sits for his home, farmed the fields and hayed the marsh. His descendants sold their homestead to my great-grandfather in 1890.

You can know you frequented the same beach as George W.H.Bush and Cole Porter. George during the last few years of his administration when he jogged it during the off season and Cole while he and my cousin were roommates at university and they visited here at my Aunt's.
