Great stay in manasota
We were extremely happy with our stay and Evan as our host. He went out of his way to make sure everything went smoothly including helping us find all the beach amenities. The house was excellent and just what we needed, just a short walk across the road to the beach. We would definitely stay here again!

Very good house at one block from the beach and facing the lagoon
The house is very nice and very clean! It has all that you need to have a comfortable stay! The owner i lives across the street and he’s very helpful if you need something. The house is crossing the street on the lagoon side and you have to walk for a small path on the side of the ownershouse to reach the beach The beach is very, very nice! We had a very good stay!

Great Spot!
The access of the beach and the dock make this a very special spot. We had a great stay and will definitely be back. Our kids loved the paddle boards on the beach, which was never crowded. The a/c worked great too which was another big plus! We saw bunnies every morning from the porch. I would recommend!

Visiting Grandma
We visited Grandma who lives nearby for her 88th birthday. We loved the size of the house which was perfect for 5 adults. Our daughter loved sitting on the veranda each morning with a good book and a cup of coffee. The house was so peaceful, private and beautifully nestled amongst the tropical fauna. It was amazing to be just a quick walk to the beach on the Gulf. Even better was that there were beach chairs, umbrellas, and sand sifters available for our use. My son and husband were like little boys searching for shark teeth each day. The paddle boards were great as well. We felt so at home there and we would definitely be visiting again. Maybe next year for Grandma’s 89th.

Peaceful and Relaxing
Every year I meet my sisters-in-law for a Florida beach mini-vacation. We choose a different destination every time, and in 9 years this was the most peaceful and relaxing vacation yet. It's that beach! WOW! Not only is it beautiful, but it is not crowded! I enjoyed lazing in the hammock listening to the waves and just relaxing. It was the perfect beach activity. The cottage was very nice. It was clean, comfortable, and welcoming. We loved hanging out on the enclosed patio in the mornings and evenings, enjoying the sounds of nature. The property itself is spectacular. It's like living in a tropical forest. Evan was such a great host. He put together a binder with all the important information for guests, which can be found on the coffee table. It was extremely thorough and answered any questions we might have had. He also included many recommendations that were very helpful with dinner options. We took his advice, and every meal we had was delicious. Evan recommended checking out the drum circle at Englewood Beach, and that turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay. We got there early so we could find a parking spot, and walked across the street for dinner afterwards. It was a unique and special experience. The three of us had a nice, relaxing stay, and that's what beach vacations are all about. We would definitely go there again, and we're trying to talk our husbands into joining us next time. Thank you, Evan!

Best of both worlds
This property has the best of both worlds. There is river access behind the home and beach access right across the road. We had plenty of towels, beach equipment and space to spread out. My husband fished off the dock on the river every morning. We spoent everyday at the beach. The kitchen is well equipped and we did eat all of our meals at the property except one dinner out. My family from Colorado came to stay with us and we all had such a great vacation.

Absolutely wonderful
Our family enjoyed this home more than any of our previous rentals. The owners have thought of everything (towels, beach chairs, kayaks, paddle boards). The location is perfect for a quiet vacation. We loved having access to the beach and lemon bay. Really wish we could have stayed longer.

Relaxing Vacation on the Gulf of Mexico
It was the perfect location for our family. It was a quiet area with access to Lemon Bay and the beach on the Gulf of Mexico. We spent a lot of our time hanging out on the beach, hunting for shark teeth & shells (we found 135 teeth), wading in the water, and watching the Egrets and sandpipers. We saw a pair of dolphins swim by and 2 sea turtles. The cottage was clean, updated, and well cared for. We used the kayaks on the calm water of Lemon Bay. It was a perfect vacation.

Manasota Key is a little slice of heaven. This barrier island is a preserved piece of “Old Florida”. The few condos and motels are at the south end of the island along with some great restaurants. Cross the bridge north or south and there are grocery stores and anything else you would need. This rental home is roomy and private. 2BR/1Bath on each side of the house make it perfect for multiple groups. A short walk across the road leads you to a wonderful private beach. The property owner, Evan, goes above and beyond to ensure the comfort and privacy of his guests. I would give this rental a very positive recommendation!

Christmas vacay
Perfect location for our annual family Christmas vacation—cycling in the morning, beach in the afternoon. We are all adults, so it was nice not to have to assign someone to a bunkbed—all king and queens in the bedrooms. Access to the private beach is just across the street, and there are plenty of beach chairs available. ( Evan even had sand sifters for the search of shark’s teeth.) The house was in a very relaxing, beautiful location, and we highly recommend it!

Wonderful stay!
Our family of 4 (2 adults and 4-year-old twins) stayed here for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was great. For some reason it felt much bigger than we were expecting—open layout helped this, I think. Bedroom w king bed was very spacious and perfect for us. Communication w Evan was super easy. He even mailed us a family heirloom necklace that was left by accident—thank you!!! Access to the beach across the street was really easy and lovely. So much fun looking for shark teeth! One thing we hadn’t realized (or at least didn’t remember from booking and may be relevant if you’re traveling w small kids) is that there is not a bath tub. Showers are both nice but it was an adjustment for our kids to not take a bath. The outside shower was the novelty that they loved though so it worked out just fine! No negatives to report from us! Loved our stay.

Beach Paradise!
What a great time!!!! Our family of four has been coming to this area for the last couple of years to enjoy the quiet beach paradise and collect fossils and shark teeth. Most days we had the entire strip of beach to ourselves! The home had EVERYTHING we could have needed and was very clean. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Our host even had all that we could need for the beach sifters, umbrellas, etc. Any small issues we had our host responded very quickly. I don't think we will be staying anywhere else but here from now on!! We have truly found a vacation paradise!!

We LOVE this place!
Everything about this long weekend was great! Evan was amazing with communication and thorough with information. The home is tucked away and very quiet, with a quick walk to the bay or beach. We literally felt like we were on a private island! The home is cozy and Evan has included small details to make the stay so convienant: soap, towels, shampoo/conditioner, hand soap, trash bags, sheets, beach supplies...etc. The beach is just breath-taking and there are not many people. We loved that we could bring the pups and will definitely be back!!

Much needed vacation for my family. Though we live in Florida (on a lake) we wanted beach time. My grandkids joined us on this trip along with my 2 German Shepherds. Evan (owner) was very attentive and the response to my questions were immediate. We did fish of the dock (Lemon Bay) didn't catch anything. Beach was beautiful. Every day was gorgeous. We rented a boat thru Sandbarz Boat LLC, ask for Stephanie. Saw dolphins in Lemon Bay. Every picture you see online is exactly how the home is in person. You will get sand on everything, so the outside shower is a plus! As a property manager myself, I know property & location is everything. This HOME has it all. You will enjoy your stay. Thanks Evan! We had FUN!

Great house for familie!
Great home layout with 2 bed/1 ba split on either side of living/kitchen. Allows for separation! Lots of space and lanai was fabulous! Very private and quiet! Easy access to beach and intercoastal. We found 3 magalodon teeth on the first day at the beach after a storm came thru the night before! We have stayed at south end of island for 10 yrs and this was first time at this end, and MUCH prefer this end of the island! Great home! Great location! Five Stars!

Great experience staying for 3 days. Never felt the need to wander around town, just stayed between the bay and the beach. Kayaking, hunting for shark teeth, fishing, grilling, watching sunsets and even a lunar eclipse. Fantastic location with that old Florida feel. Highly recommended. Evan was a great host, very responsive and welcoming.

PERFECT 10!
We've just spent a perfect week at a perfect house offered by the perfect host. Evan's house provided a fully equipped kitchen, four generous bedrooms, and two beautiful new bathrooms for the enjoyment of our family of six: two grandparents, two parents, and two grandkids. Comfortable, stylish, and ample furniture graced both the open and spacious family room and the pleasant lanai. A minute's walk from the lanai led us down a sculpted path to the private dock, where we saw dolphins frolicking, mullet leaping, and a skate gliding by. Our grandson fished off the dock, and several of our family went kayaking. A pileated woodpecker, iguanas, anoles, and rabbits visited. We grabbed beach towels from the generous supply at the front door and walked across the lush greenery of Canopy Road to the private beach, where Evan provided umbrellas and beach chairs. In the past we've enjoyed all of Manasota Key's beautiful beaches, but the allure and ease of this private beach were irresistible. We swam, walked the shore, gathered sharks' teeth, watched the birds and the horizon, and felt no need to go elsewhere. Host Evan was attentive and quickly responsive to any questions or needs. Our week of total relaxation in this lush, tropical, and private environment rates a perfect 10. We'll be back!

About the host

Hosted by Evan Greenwald

Host profile image
Hi, I'm Evan. I'm semi retired and recently bought this dream location cottage, just ready for rental, which is why there are few reviews yet far. I live across the street most of September through March, and so am available onsite for assistance if needed.

Why they chose this property

I purchased this Bay Side property attached to the ocean front property I now live in. This is one of the last regions of Florida that maintains and protects its subtropical temperate rainforest environment, and it is on the only "canopy drive" protected roadway in the region. There are nearly 50 species of subtropical flora and fauna, and protected wildlife (Gopher Tortoises in particular), and it is a unique and welcome relief from the rest of Florida that has become multi-unit condos or high rise hotels. The natural beauty of the region, and well over 10 miles round trip of beach walking or running, along with fossilized shark teeth collecting as a beach past time, is amazing. The people on the beach are friendly, and pets are welcome on the beach and often appreciated and "loved up" by passers by. Manasota Key Road is well marked for bike riding, bike rental pick up and drop off is available, and the area does a great job at creating safe bike lanes for users. The local recreation department also supports over 8 tennis courts within a 15 minute drive, often empty, and round robin open access tennis is offered Mon, Wed, Friday mornings from 9-11 am, so it is easy to get some doubles tennis even if you don't have a tennis partner. Golf is accessible near by. Live music and restaurants are within 4-5 miles, a quick drive or bike ride. Happy hour music 7 night weekly and libation in open air restaurants is easily accessible, and Sunday night drumming circle at sundown is a weekly ritual worth attending. Dearborn Street is worth a stroll for their artistic flair shops and a couple outdoor bistro type restaurants, or a latte at a local cafe', or a visit to a local antique/collectibles shop. There is an energy and vibe to this 1 mile section of Manasota Key Road, and the cozy and quite cottage, that is worth exploring given its uniqueness. It exudes peace and positive energy, and as everyone knows, saltwater and the sea heals nearly everything that ails we humans.

What makes this property unique

For short or longer monthly stays, Manasota Beach Club is about 300 yards away, and offers one month memberships for $400, providing access to tennis and pickle ball courts, basketball hoops, kayaks and paddle boards, exercise equipment, breakfast, lunch, and 5 course dinners, if desired. A great value for short or longer stays.
