About this property

THE SPACE
One person occupancy only. Layout is split- bedroom style, master suite on one end of the house and private guest room and bathroom on the other, shared kitchen and dining room in between. Perfect for a traveling medical or business professional. My home is in a safe and surprisingly quiet neighborhood, considering how close it is to everything. Very restful after a long days' work or play. Home has central heat and air conditioning and there is on-site free parking, washer/dryer, plus access to fully equipped kitchen and back yard with patio & grill. Guest is free to use my garden produce when in season. Free Wifi internet and TV available and I have a monitored security system.
I share my home with my dog, Lilly, a very friendly Dachshund-Yorkshire Terrier mix (or rather, maybe she is kind enough to share her home with me?). Miss Lilly and I have a quiet home and lifestyle. There is a pet door and a small, fenced yard with lawn. If you travel with a pet, Lilly and I would welcome one additional smaller dog (under 25 pounds), well-behaved, house broken, and friendly to both people and other pets. Dog must be clean, free of parasites, neutered and kept up to date on vaccinations. Local license is required if staying in the area more than 30 days. Veterinary, boarding and grooming services are nearby.
My home was custom built to be handicapped accessible as my late husband was quadriplegic. There are no steps whatsoever to enter the home or enter any room in the home. All entry doors are 36 inches and all interior bedroom, bathroom and laundry room doors are 36 inches, the linen closet door and a pantry door being the exceptions. The toilets are higher than standard residential. There are no grab bars in the guest bathroom, and the tub is standard tub/shower. I do have a walker to assist a challenged individual on/off the toilet or in/out of the tub. The washing machine is not a front-loader and not really accessible for a person who is wheelchair bound.
THE AREA
Grand Junction is in the Grand Valley of Mesa County, surrounded by mountains of various types of terrain and up to 11,000 feet elevation. My home is at the end of a cul-de-sac in a safe and surprisingly quiet neighborhood, considering how close it is to everything. There is a lovely tree-shaded, five-acre park one street away, with walking trails and a small lake/irrigation pond where ducks and Canada geese are seen at certain seasons. Canyon View Park is only 5 minutes away, a 114-acre municipal park with baseball, softball, football and soccer fields, tennis, volleyball, handball, and basketball courts, horseshoes, a dog park, skate facility, picnic tables & shelters, and LOTS of walking/bicycling trails.
Ski resorts within driving distance include Powderhorn, Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, Sunlight and Snowmass ski resorts. There is a bus stop about 3 blocks away, but having your own vehicle would be preferable. Close to downtown Grand Junction, restaurants, movie theaters, churches, shopping at local mall, Walmart and grocery stores. Parking in downtown area is coin-op metered. All other parking is free.
Grand Junction is a medical treatment and education hub, having the largest 3 hospitals between Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Three major local hospitals within 5-15 minutes’ drive of my home are:
1.8 miles to St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center
2.8 miles to Community Hospital
3.8 miles to Veterans Administration Hospital
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Employment verification required prior to booking and a signed Rental Agreement is required upon arrival. $100 cleaning fee.
If you are away from this area for work or play, I would very likely be available to take care of your dog's needs while you're away, at no extra cost to you except for the needs of the dog.
For your peace and mine I do expect my guests to abide by my House Rules. These include:
* Don't give Host's pet any people food whatsoever, or treats without prior permission of Host. Although she shows no obvious symptoms, she has a serious medical condition and is on a special prescription diet and medication.
* Close and lock all windows and doors upon leaving the property when the Host is not present.
* Laundry hours 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. I'll do mine around your schedule while you're away working or exploring the area.
* Guest shall provide her own laundry supplies and will not make use of those belonging to the Host.
* Between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. noise shall be kept to a minimum, and within reason earlier than 7:00 a.m. when preparing for a work shift or early departure for an excursion away from the house.
* Guest parking is the right side of the driveway, unless your vehicle has mechanical problems that will cause stains on the concrete. In that case, guest may park on the street adjacent to the property. All nearby parking on or off site is free.
* Guest will clean up after herself in the shared common areas.
* Use the trash cans for trash. Not the toilet.
* We're often in drought conditions in this area, and if we're not careful we could get awfully thirsty! Use conservation practices for water and power resources.
* You're welcome to smoke outside on the patio, front porch or the park across the street, not inside the home. You must provide appropriate receptacles for tobacco ashes.
* You're in my home and my space. Profane, obscene or loud language is not only disrespectful, disgusting and inconsiderate, it is absolutely prohibited.
* No use of marijuana, illegal substances, alcohol consumption or drunkenness will be allowed on my property.
* No additional overnight guests.
* No parties allowed.
* No use of provided Wifi to download illegal or pornographic materials.

About the host
Hosted by Darlene

Although I grew up in Southern California, as soon as I knew there was a betterway of life I wanted OUT! I met my husband, Les, in 1969 and we started dated two years later. He was from Colorado and we ultimately moved here in 2000. We had our home custom built for his needs as he was disabled and confined to a wheelchair. I've lived here ever since and I love it! Unfortunately, I lost him in 2018 and it's been a bit lonesome ever since. One reason I thought about renting out my guest room was for the company it would provide.
Why they chose this property
If you're looking for a quiet place to veg after a long days' work or play, this is the right place. I'm between two of the major three hospitals in Mesa County and this would be the perfect situation for traveling nurses or other medical and business professionals.
