About the owner: Stay local.. Stay Stonehouse! Robert and Joanie deLugo the owners, have lived at Stonehouse since 1982 and purchased it in 1996. Robert was born on St. Thomas and met Joanie when she moved to the islands in 1981. They have been welcoming vacation travelers at Stonehouse since 2005.
Robert's family dates back many years in Virgin Islands history, his father was the first U.S. Post Master General for the Virgin Islands and the main U.S.Post Office in Charlotte Amalie, Alvaro deLugo U.S. Post Office is named after him. Joanie is originally from Canada and Cape Cod, and relocated to St. Thomas after college in Nova Scotia in 1981.
Robert and Joanie both have extensive professional backgrounds in the Virgin Islands tourism industry. Robert has worked in the Virgin Islands aviation business since the 1970's. First with a seaplane company Antilles Airboats, which was operated by the actress Maureen O'Hara and her aviator husband Charlie Blair, then with Pam Am Airways and also Delta Airlines as the V.I. Station Manager from 1994 until early retirement 2012.
Since relocating to the Virgin Islands Joanie has enjoyed many years crewing on charter yachts sailing around the British Virgin Islands, managing a marina and charter yacht center in Red Hook and 12 years as the local representative for Apple Vacations, an international travel company. When not working Joanie and Robert enjoy traveling to Chile, Argentina, Paris and Cape Cod.
They welcome you to the Virgin Islands so they can share their local expertise on some of the better things to see and do in the islands. They reside on the property and will check you in when you arrive, answer any questions and help you out with anything you need during your stay.
