About this property

Escape to the Wilderness at Mt Massive Lodge

License # 2024-107
Sitting on 4 private acres, overlooking the Arkansas River Valley at the base of the highest peaks in the American Rockies sits Mt Massive Lodge. Bring your family and friends and experience the true Colorado wilderness. Whether you’re hiking, biking, fishing or rafting, this area has summer activities for everyone. Hike 14ers? Easily access Elbert, Massive, La Plata & Harvard trail heads within a short drive. Make Mt Massive Lodge your home base for adventure this summer! For relaxation, soak in one of the nearby hot springs, stargaze and take in the milky way or observe local wildlife from the expansive 2nd level deck.
Mt Massive Lodge sits adjacent to an immense and remote wilderness. Leadville is 20 miles to the north and Buena Vista is 25 miles to the south. We recommend guests purchase food and supplies on your way in as you pass through one of these communities.

Pets - We only allow dogs. Sorry no cats or exotic animals allowed. If you are bringing a dog you must disclose this prior to your visit. Pet fee is $150 (2) dogs max. Pets strictly not allowed on furniture or beds. Additional fines will be assessed for those who don't comply.

Storms/Winter Driving Conditions (Nov.-April) -

No refunds will be given for storms and/or road closures. Mountain roads are maintained and plowed but we cannot control weather related delays or road closures. We highly recommend hAWD/4WD. The final mile to Mt Massive Lodge is a gravel road that is plowed by one of the local residents when 4 or more inches of snow falls. He also plows the driveway. Plan accordingly and be sure to pay attention to the local and regional weather. We will not be held responsible for any delays, cancellations or lack of access due to road conditions and/or weather related delays. Take note of road conditions prior to traveling.

Twin Lakes Fall 2024
Perfect property and location to spend a wonderful weekend with family. This house is perfect for a family or couples get together. We loved the views from the awesome wraparound deck. Located away from the busyness of Twin Lakes village.

Leadville 100 Run headquarters
We had 6 adults and 2 kids comfortably staying here for the Leadville 100 Run. We came a week early to acclimate (coming from sea level). Before the race we took advantage of Twin Lakes and did some fishing and hiked Hope Pass (not with the kids...), and just enjoyed the peacefness of the cabin and the view of the mountains off the deck. The lodge had everything we needed. We ate exclusively at the cabin and did a lot of cooking, and had all we needed for food prep and storage. The place was perfect as headquarters for the race. Very clean, so many amenities, luxurious space.

Beautiful mountain retreat
The open spacious floor plan was very inviting. The arrangement of furniture encouraged gathering together and talking. The kitchen was very well stocked with lots of pots and saucepans and with everything needed for cooking. I loved how they had lots of information and maps of the surrounding area. The books on hikes were very helpful…loved the place

Leadville 100 staging ground and getaway
Mt Massive Lodge was the PERFECT place to stay and use as our home base for the Leadville 100. Fast and easy access to Twin Lakes, an easy drive to Outward Bound and Leadville proper - plenty of space, clean, comfortable and in excellent condition. With the bonus of beautiful morning and evening views of Buffalo Peaks Wilderness, we certainly hope to stay here again in the future.

A Lovely Place to Stay
My two adult sons and I came up to the Twin Lakes area for a couple days of alpine hiking. This property was clean, expansive and wonderfully quiet. The large wraparound porch was especially nice. The owners were responsive and helpful.

Great Family Getaway
We booked this cabin for our family and friends for a weekend get away. The cabin is well appointed and FULLY stocked. Honestly, they have anything and everything you could need! The property is private and secluded but no more than 5 min away from the lake and fishing. The property manager was more than communicative, gave us tips for food, and property tips. Cleaning requirements were minimal when checking out and we were able to check in early and out late. We will definitely be booking this Vrbo again for a family get away. Pictures and discription were very accurate!

Everything Colorado has to Offer in One Beautiful Cabin!
This is the most beautiful property my wife and I had ever visited! The cabin was exceptional and absolutely bug-free. All promised amenities were present and worked without issues. Guidance pamphlets accompanied each room and each piece of equipment. Everything was labeled in the most helpful ways. The rooms were very clean and well decorated. The furniture was well situated and super comfortable. The views from each window in the cabin were awesome! The wildlife was abundant. The weather was widely ranged from warm and sunny, to cold with windy snow, all in the span of an afternoon. There were paved roads leading most of the way to the cabin and well-maintained gravel roads rest of the way. The snow seemed to be plowed each day, somehow. The privacy was perfect. The host and property managers communicated with me throughout the process of reserving, checking in, and checking out of the property. The host and property manager were exceptionally accommodating to my small family. I cannot thank them enough! Amazing cabin and surrounding area! We will book this cabin for years to come. The locals say the summers are spectacular here.

Spacious house with amazing views
Our group of two families (4 adults, 5 kids) had a lovely stay at this property. The house is very spacious with plenty of room to spread out. The kids loved having the downstairs as a "kid zone" and the adults enjoyed the big kitchen, living spaces, and the incredible views upstairs. Lots of room to roam and explore around the property. Great communication from management/owners. We liked the proximity to Leadville for groceries, restaurants, etc. as well as Cooper and Monarch for skiing. Only thing that could be better would be a hot tub!

A great place that lives up to the description
My family and my wife's brother's family had a great time staying in this spacious cabin over spring break. From the adults to the teenagers and down to the eight year old, this place did not disappoint. The amenities are plentiful in each space, especially the kitchen. The cabin is situated on a very large lot so it felt very private. The mountain views out of the windows and upper deck were amazing. The hosts were polite and very responsive before and during our stay via the VRBO app. A great time was had by all and we will definitely consider staying here again.

Twin Lakes getaway
Very nice open main floor, great for hanging out and playing games. Bedrooms are nice with good beds. Only issue we had were the directions from map apps as it tried to send us on roads that were not plowed and we almost got stuck.

Inside you’ll have 2 different living areas, each with YouTube TV (for live TV, Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime. We also have puzzles, board games and cards to enjoy with friends and family. We have get StarLink satellite internet which provides a reliable signal and allows for streaming on multiple devices. While visiting the upper portion of the Arkansas River Valley, we encourage our guest to get out and explore this picturesque region of Colorado. Seasonal activities include but are not limited to - Rafting/Kayaking, Fishing, Hiking, Mtn Biking, Skiing, Snowmobiling, Snowshoeing, Hot Springing, Leaf peeping

What makes this property unique

Our place is unique due to its setting. We sit on 4 private acres amongst the trees with big mountain views to the East. Every window captures a view of the natural surrounds. From each room you could see surrounding wildlife. In our times up there, we've seen mule deer, elk, black bear, prong horn, eagles, hummingbirds, etc
