About the host

Host profile image
We are a husband and wife owner-manager team. This is our home in the sun. We bought it in order to have a beach house in South Florida. We designed and decorated it to make us happy. The husband is a tech guy, so he made sure that everything worked. A good security system, exterior security cameras, Ring doorbell, Wifi, SONOS, 3 flat-screen HDTV’s, sound bars, Roku, Hulu, Netflix. It’s all there. So are double offices in case you need a working vacation. The wife is a former Financial Advisor turned artist. She makes sure everything is pretty. Her paintings hang on the walls, as does art that she makes collaboratively with teams in Rwanda to which she strives to give work via a line of women’s and home accessories. Guests won’t be able to escape this influence. She’s a colorist, so the house is vibrant.

Since travel is high on our list of priorities, we are not always able to use the house. When this is the case, we make it available to guests. We are careful with this beautiful home; we curate as best we can who we rent it to. This is a home for the discerning traveler. It is not your “typical” short-term rental property. We get repeat guests who book it year after year. (Our more than 160 5-star reviews can be seen on another platform; we are brand new to this one.) We view offering our house to strangers as a form of hospitality, as well as a practice in good stewardship.

Our property is situated 10 min from the beach, 10 minutes from Worth Avenue on Palm Beach island and 10 minutes from the airport. This year-round paradise features a lushly landscaped, fully fenced backyard; heated saltwater sports pool; putting green; gas grill; outdoor patio dining; private driveway as well as free street parking. 4 BR/2B, Chef's kitchen, dining table seating for 12, sunroom, 2 offices & laundry room. Walk to trendy shops, galleries & restaurants, and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Why they chose this property

We lived in New York City and appreciated its walkable lifestyle. When there, we walked to our favorite shops and restaurants; we walked to the gym and to art museums. When we made the decision to buy a home in South Florida, we desired that same experience here. We looked in virtually every nice neighborhood as far north as Jupiter and as far south as Delray Beach. What did we discover? Areas to the north: too far from the action and not walkable to shops & eats. Areas to the south: depending on the exact street, too noisy. Southern West Palm Beach neighborhoods are in the flight path. Areas to the west: too much time spent in the car. Not our vibe. Areas to the east? Well, that would be the water. Our house is three blocks from the water. We realized that everything we were looking for could be found in Historic Old Northwood.

We walk to dinner at our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Morning walks are to the water. Along the way, we enjoy viewing homes cast into the historic provenance of our neighborhood. The architecture of the homes here is breathtaking. Our streets are wide, and street circles are filled with palm trees. Neighbors are tight-knit and friendly. We hear the laughter of children.

Over the past few years, our neighborhood has enjoyed a Renaissance. It has been discovered all over again. Its proximity to the water and downtown, as well as its own mix of boutiques, galleries and restaurants, has attracted the attention of those who decided to make South Florida their new home post-Covid. During this time, this fresh energy of people, businesses and development have been injected into our community in a most positive way. Our neighborhood is not just “happening,” it’s in very high demand. We are grateful for the privilege of stewarding a home here.

What makes this property unique

Our home is circa 1923; with that, comes a lot of charm. Provenance. It’s on the Historic Register. But preserving it requires assurance that things work. The house has been fully renovated. It is also meticulously maintained. We are over-the-top conscientious about maintenance, as these old beauties generally need extra attention. To that end, all systems have been updated: plumbing, electrical, AC and heating. We installed a new roof. Replaced windows. Both bathrooms have been updated. And the chef’s kitchen has been fully renovated, too! Stainless steel appliances, along with treats like a coffee bar, are there to ensure a high-structural integrity stay.

We installed a heated, saltwater sports pool. Whether you desire swimming laps or playing water basketball, we’ve got you covered. Did I mention the 3-hole putting green? We installed that, too. New as well is the lush landscaping and Cuban-tiled backyard patio. In short, we created a private oasis, all within ten minutes from downtown and Palm Beach island.

The aesthetic is joyful. It makes coming here a delight for the eyes and a respite for the soul. Colorful and upbeat, the vibe is happy. This is truly a HAPPY HOUSE!
