About this property

Balloon Fiesta close to Charming, Historic, N. Valley Casita!

A romantic, rustic hideaway in a true 'oasis in the desert'. Our authentic adobe casita is situated within Los Terrones, a 40 casita compound set among 6 acres of meadow, in the Village of Los Ranchos. 'Casita Chueca' has exposed vigas (beams), brick floors with radiant heat and a huge picture window on the east side offering plenty of morning light and views to the wildflower meadow.

A perfect rural North Valley experience with all the conveniences of Albuquerque and quick access to Santa Fe.

The casita offers a true New Mexican Adobe experience with modern amenities. We've outfitted the kitchen with all the things needed to prepare a quick breakfast, as well as a full dinner. Enjoy high speed WiFi and AppleTV in the living room for relaxing or cozy up to the 100 year old baby grand piano!

In addition to the radiant in-floor heating, ductless mini-split A/C offers quiet and efficient heating and cooling for optimal temperatures in each room! If there is something you need, please ask!

The casita can accommodate 3 or 4 adults + 2 small children.

The laundry room is a shared space on the greater property (not in the casita).

WILDLIFE DISCLOSURE (PLEASE READ): The neighborhood is semi-rural with the presence of wildlife, including insects. We do treat for insects regularly, however, you may experience their presence in and around the property.

Part of Our Balloon Fest Experience
Home was decorated in beautiful southwestern style which we considered a lovely part of our New Mexico experience. Easy parking. WiFi was excellent. Main bedroom had good closet space and comfortable bed. One small bathroom. Close to Balloon Fest parking.

Super cute casita!
We were in town for a long weekend for a youth climbing competition. Rather than stay in a bland hotel we thought this would help us understand Albuquerque a little better. It's such a cute adobe house. All the things others have said are true but we loved the character! We walked along the irrigation canal a couple times - it has some shade which is nice. We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay here again. Do make sure to drive really slow in and out of the neighborhood - one neighbor felt I was going too fast and was upset. Oh also the directions don't tell you a casita number. We figured it out but that would be helpful to know for sure that you're at the right place.

Unbelievable Charm in this Casita
We booked this casita for lodging for a girls trip to the 2018 Balloon Fiesta months in advance. There were 3 adults. Perfect location. about $8-10 to Uber to Balloon Fiesta Field where they have a designated Uber/Lyft lot for drop off and pick up. There is a bike path you can take but was a little dark and scary on the ride home. The owners gave us decent bikes and helmets to borrow so we didn't even have to rent our own. The location is pretty short drive to the airport, Old Towne, restaurants, Petrogylph National monument, Route 66 among other places. The Casita itself is very authentic. You will love the brick floors and wood beams as well as the Kiva fireplace. I took pictures of it and posted on my Facebook page and got hundreds of likes and comments about how charming the place was. The pictures posted here really don't do justice. There is a newer leather sofa and chair that is extremely comfortable. The TV, dvd player and internet work perfectly. There is great cell phone service in the area. The refrigerator, freeze, dishwasher. stove and dining area are adequate. There is a Smith's (Kroger) grocery store nearby on 4th Street so we suggest purchasing breakfast items and snacks for your stay. Beds are very comfortable.Others commented about the small bathroom. It works fine! The shower head is removable and it has good water pressure. How much space does a person really need in a bathroom anyway? Do your business and get out! Take time for the hour drive to Santa Fe. It is very scenic and when you do, be sure to visit the Plaza and Ten Thousand Waves Spa. Book your spa appointment in advance. It was amazing. Also, I might add that there is a UPS store on 4th street that packages souvenirs to mail home. We also found a FedEx in Santa Fe (google address). It made it easy to mail items home, especially some of the fragile ceramics so popular in New Mexico. Because the weather is so variable in October, we packed a lot of clothes and therefore suitcases were stuffed. The option of having shipping companies close by allowed us women to literally shop til we dropped! I have stayed at several VRBOs and can testify that this is well worth it! We all want to return! Adorable Casita
This adobe casita is classic New Mexico, nestled into an old neighborhood in the North Valley. We arrived just before Christmas to find a decorated live tree and lights! The casita is small but ample for four adults and a child, with a well-stocked kitchen, tv, and wifi. Though the evenings were cold the radiant heat under the tile floors kept us quite warm. There a large open space outside filled with beautiful cranes and a play structure which our toddler grandchild enjoyed (plus a school playground next door). From this location you are very close to Los Poblanos lavender farm, wineries, antique malls, and the Balloon Park. Definitely a memorable stay!

Perfect for Balloon Fiesta and Railrunner
5 miles away from Balloon Fiesta. $8-11 for Uber. Walk thru the gate to side road to make pickup easier. Actually pulls up the house address on other side automatically. Never waited more than 8 minutes. Cute little place that is authentic New Mexico which is exactly what we wanted. 1.5 miles from Railrunner. Took great trip to Santa Fe from there. Place was clean and well stocked. Other reviews talked about the shower. We are 5' and 5'8" and it was extremely difficult. Not so much the shower size, but the shower head location is what made it so difficult. We don't complain over our small RV showers but this one challenged us. Make sure to get a unit number from owner.

Nice little house close to Balloon Festival and everything else
The staff is super helpful and quick to fix any issues ( the internet wire came loose). The house is clean, beautiful and wonderful EXCEPT for the shower. The shower is tiny, if you weigh more than 250lbs you won't fit in it and two people will not fit in it at the same time unless they are both children. The shower head sprays water everywhere and it's impossible to get out of the water without getting out of the shower itself. Other than that, everything is perfect. Location is amazing, anything you can find or think of to do is close by. Driving out to Sky City and other day trips is easy. Close to gas stations, dollar store, and the Farm & Table local restaurant. Trader Joes and Starbucks is only 15 minute drive. If you're a Breaking Bad fan, google places used in the show and you will find that this house puts you within 10 miles of 50 places used in the show. If you don't get a welcome letter, ask for one because it explains the laundry facilities and lets you know there are 2 bikes for rent. Kitchen has everything you could need and the bed is very comfortable. Lots of extra blankets. Will definitely return with our kids!

Disappointed
The property was quiet and safe, however it was not well maintained. The furniture was worn out, there were problems with the air conditioning which made it miserable in August, there were windows that did not open and some had no screens. The outside area was overgrown and we could not use the BBQ grill because it was being habituated by a large wasp nest. There were lots of cockroaches inside. This property needs to be deep cleaned and upgraded with more comfortable furnishings. We were very disappointed.

Great ABQ Experience at a Good Value
We loved our stay at the Casita which, though small, has much more charm than your typical VRBO rental. Adobe walls, exposed beam ceilings, and the development itself (a small "village" of several little adobe structures sprawling over several acres) all added to our Southwest experience. The house only has one double bed, the rest are singles so be aware of this if you're travelling with couples; it was great for our family with kids. If you're sleeping 5, know that one person will be on a rollaway mattress. The place is beautiful, clean, well equipped, has good wifi, and the owners were very responsive; all at a fair price!

Clean, spacious and accomadating!
This property was perfect! This casita was well kept, attractive, and it was very private. Along with the spacious interior, there was a small backyard where we grilled and enjoyed the sunshine. The house was stocked and ready for our arrival. My party consisted of five adults and we had plenty of room. The property manager, Tim, checked in periodically by phone and was extremely helpful. The location is about twenty minutes from downtown albuquerque, we'll worth it if you like a little more privacy. I can't say enough about this space; my family is already planning on coming back in a few months. Thank you, Tim!

A week in a historic adobe
Our week in Albuquerque was greatly enhanced by staying at this wonderful 140 year old adobe. My husband used to live in this area for 16 years. We have been to Albuquerque many times but had not yet discovered this lovely casita. It is in a nice neighborhood at the end of the small development giving it privacy. The adobe oozed charm. It was built just the way an adobe in 1875 would be constructed. There were modern amenities, of course. The casita was just the right size for a couple. Bathroom was small but had the basics - toilet, shower stall and sink. Everything was decorated in typical South Western fashion. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. Tim, the manager, was great to work with. He was friendly and cooperative, if a need arose. We will definitely return when we get the chance.

Exellent Stay
We stayed for two months and loved the place. It had lots of Old Albuquerque charm, plenty of space inside, high ceilings and comfortable. It took a day to get used to the small doorways, but that's because it's a 100+ year old adobe house. (By the way, the adobe keeps the temperature nice and cool during the summer.) It was so much better than any other place we considered. Also, we rarely needed him but the manager was friendly and helpful, which was also a plus.

Wonderful Stay
When we first arrived at the place after dark, it seemed more rustic and smaller than envisioned. However, as we started to turn lights on and look around we appreciated the authentic adobe construction. The place is really cute and just the right size for us as a couple. It is well maintained, clean, colorful and well decorated. The bathroom is tiny. The kitchen is small but nicely and colorfully decorated and has what you need. The bedrooms are decent size. One has a queen bed, the other a bunk bed. The living room and dinette is a large room. The floors are brick. The ceilings are timber. The adobe exterior is in great condition. This adobe is located in a fenced in community of about 50 other adobes. It is the last one down the winding road at the corner of the property giving it more space and privacy than other units. We had a great time and would definitely stay again, if we come back to the area.

Southwest trip with the girls
This place was wonderful. We loved the true feeling of a real New Mexico Casita. We had everything we needed and the location was close for all of our day trips. We enjoyed being able to have morning coffee on the back patio. Quite and peaceful. Tim and Tony made us feel welcome. We are looking forward to staying there in the future. We were pleasantly surprised to find this area had a lot of history and was just off Route 66. We enjoyed breakfast at the El Camino Cafe that had a lot of Route 66 feeling and great food.

Great discovery!
This casita is very comfortable and was perfect for our stay in Albuquerque! We come to Albuquerque often but had never discovered this part of the town before. We love it, and as several guests had stated before, it truly is like an oasis in the middle of the big city! The location is great and is close to lots of things to do in Albuquerque. The kitchen had everything we needed. The swamp cooler worked very well for cooling the master bedroom, kitchen and living room. The front bedroom was a little warm but fans were provided and worked fairly well. Tim was very helpful when we needed him but gave us space which was great! We would definitely stay here again when we are in Albuquerque for longer trips!

Charming Old Casita
Excellent rate on this charming adobe casita with brick floors thruout. Very comfortable and well stocked. If we needed anything, the manager was most accommodating. Stayed there in past and will stay in future. Good location in north ABQ close to I-25 and Paseo del Norte, and fairgrounds for Balloon Fiesta. Be sure to go to close restaurant Casa de Benevides....lovely place to dine.

Great for a family with small children
We had a lovely 4-day stay in Albuquerque in June of 2013, and this little casita added to the charm of the stay. With two small children ages 3 & 6, we have learned that staying in a home is the way to travel. The casita is absolutely adorable and had real New Mexico flavor. It's small, but fine for our small family (it might be a bit cramped with older children). We were cool and comfortable, even in June, with the exception of the small bedroom that got pretty warm and stuffy. The fan helped, as did having the windows cracked. We had our girls take quick, cool showers before bed so that they could fall asleep, and the room cooled down nicely overnight. We enjoyed making all of our meals there, so as not to worry about restless children in restaurants, and we found it nice to grill and eat outside. The backyard is tiny, but fine for two little girls to make fairy houses in! It feels rural, and there are several nearby properties with animals. My children enjoyed hearing the roosters crow in the morning and saying hello to the many cats on the property. We were especially happy with the location. We weren't sure how convenient it would be to Albuquerque sight-seeing, but it took us no time at all to get to the BioPark and Old Town for the museums. In fact, had we not stayed in the North Valley we probably never would have driven on the lovely Rio Grande Blvd, a drive I enjoyed each day. I understand the property is also very convenient to the Balloon Fiesta and Hot Air Balloon Museum, although we didn't visit that area this trip. We would definitely stay in this property again, and would recommend it to other families with 1 or 2 young children.

About the host

Hosted by Ryan Bromberg

Host profile image
We are a family of native New Mexicans with deep roots in the Rio Grande Valley.

Why they chose this property

Casita Chueca (crooked house) is situated on a lovely compound in Albuquerque's North Valley. It is a piece of paradise, a semi-rural setting hidden within a metropolitan area which makes it close to nature but also close to all the conveniences of the city.

What makes this property unique

We love the easy access to all parts of Albuquerque and New Mexico while enjoying the tranquil, green, natural environment and historic ambiance. The trip to Santa Fe, which we enjoy visiting often, is very short, whether by car or the Railrunner train.
