About this property

Oceanfront- Sea Gem Cottage

Sea Gem Cottage is an oceanfront home six miles south of Newport, Oregon. Our home now has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a loft. The entire house has been completely remodeled with the additional bedroom and loft added as of February 2016.

There are bamboo floors throughout the house and travertine tiles in the bathroom. The home is decorated with modern furnishings. There are spectacular views of the beach and surf from every room of the house. The bedrooms have queen beds with storage drawers and wardrobes for your extended stay. The downstairs great room has seating for 6 at the dining table and a wall mounted Smart television with basic cable.

Stairs from the great room lead up to the loft area. Here you can find two twin beds on the garden side of the loft and a lounge area on the ocean side.

The house sits on a 40 foot tall bluff with a private path and stairs leading to the beach. The beach stretches for miles in either direction allowing for long walks on the beach where you rarely encounter another person.

Gorgeous and perfect!

This property is so cute and cozy! It had everything we needed and you cannot beat the location. I just wish we could have stayed longer. The property owner was great when we had a small problem with the septic system. Solved in no time and back to having fun. Beach access is a huge plus! We will stay again for sure! East check in and out too. Highly recommend!!

Always a Wonderful Place Stay

This was the third year in a row where we stayed at Sea Gem. As always it never disappoints. Great accommodation and excellent hosts. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

The Very Best - AGAIN

We try to stay at the Sea Gem once or twice a year, and it is ALWAYS such a WONDERFUL stay. We have rented dozens of places at the coast and there is NONE that even comes close. The location, the property, Josh our host, layout, amenities all combine for the BEST place we have ever stayed. We are to the point where if the Sea G m is not available we postpone our trip to the coast until a date when the Sea Gem is available. The VERY BEST - AGAIN and EVERY TIME. Thank you so much, Josh, for making thr Sea Gem available!

Great getaway!

I booked this stay just to have a few days to myself to destress a bit. The house was great — clean, had everything I needed and was comfortable— and the view was spectacular! I did discover that I didn’t have cell service there, but perhaps that’s not such a bad thing when you’re trying to escape for a few days! (WiFi was fine.) Would definitely recommend.

Pre King Tides

This property is awesome. This particular location, on the beach, was perfect. And the Ocean put on a show. Waves breaking right in front of us. Watching the changing tides for hours was so peaceful and good for the soul. Unfortunately during our stay it rained most of the time. So didn't get to spend time on the beach but that was okay. Beautiful furnishings and lacked nothing.

Beautiful!

The views are unbelievable. Gorgeous, stunning, and panoramic. Can walk the wide, empty beach for what seems like forever, right from the cottage after getting down its steps laid in rock. Cottage was lovely, exactly as shown in pictures. Immaculate, every detail perfect, and high-end. Master bed so comfortable we wanted to bring it home. So nice to open the slider door to hear the waves crashing as you fall asleep and wake up. Loved the long, back porch. Saw whales breaching offshore on three afternoons. An easy ten-minute drive into Newport for some great restaurants recommended by host. Was a beautiful, relaxing stay. Perfect for our anniversary. We will be back.

Wonderful beach vacation

Clean and quiet beach cottage. Perfect for our family of four. Very peaceful, unobstructed view of the pacific ocean with ditect beach access. Short drive to the center of Newport for dining and shopping.

Perfect retreat

We had an amazing time in this gorgeous home. Everything in the house is thoughtful and beautiful, and the sea views were spectacular (we saw whales spouting!). The beach was awesome and fairly easy to access, and the host was responsive and very helpful. We loved it!

We absolutely loved our stay here, it was everything we had hoped for and more. The entire cottage was extremely clean and owner thought of everything to make our stay feel like it was our home. The bed was very comfortable and with the door open at night listening to the sound of the made for a perfect night sleep. I wouldn't hesitate to rent this property again whenever we're Oregon. The steps to the ocean are a little challenging but we're in our 70's so that probably was the real issue. As stated in previous reviews the drive way is narrow but if you back in, it's just fine. I would not hesitate to book this property, you won't be disappointed. Thank you a wonderful four days, we hope to come back

Nothing short of fantastic!

Everything about our experience with this property, from the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, and everything in between, was absolutely amazing. When you turn off the road into the driveway for the first time you immediately glimpse the view that will greet you every morning, every time you come back from exploring some of the most beautiful country in the world, and every second you spend in the house. Not only is it an amazing location, but everything from the aesthetic design to the practical use of space and general functionality of the house is extremely well thought out. One of the coolest parts of the house is the loft. There is a little desk area, a super cool bench right by the rear window looking out over the water with a ledge to set your coffee and breakfast, and two twin beds for whoever is lucky enough to get stuck up there. You walk out the back door, down a cute little path and you are on the beach in less than a minute. We hung out with a baby sea lion on the beach for 20 minutes before it waddled into the water and swam off. I’m not kidding. I know I sound like I was paid to write this review, but it has been two months since we were there, and if I had written it right away it would have been even more glowing. I should mention that it was just me and my wife but plenty of room for kids. Also, make sure you get the Wi-Fi code and door password at the airport, or at least in Newport. There is NO cell service around the house. Wi-Fi is great though.

Great little beach house

This place was lovely! It was nicely remodeled, very clean, and has gorgeous views of the beach. You can literally sit and watch the ocean from the kitchen table. Beautiful. There is a path down to the beach- but I would not recommend it for elderly folks because you’re walking on big rocks and it’s pretty uneven. The only downsides to this place are the road noise, particularly if you sleep with windows open at night, and the crazy driveway. If this were my place I’d eliminate the front “yard” and make it a turn around for the driveway. You really need to back into the driveway and the traffic on the road is going 40-50 MPH so it’s challenging to find a gap to pull over and back into the driveway. Absolutely no room for a turn around in the driveway as is. The reviews warned about the driveway but I thought maybe it was exaggerated. Nope! Anyway, we made it work. Overall a lovely home on the beach with close proximity to Newport and other surrounding towns.

Excellent !!!

The Sea Gem was very clean, beds were comfortable and furnishings in good condition. The kitchen was well equipped. As far as location goes, it was excellent, right by the ocean with access to the beach. It is obvious that a lot of thought has been put into this property to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We will definitely stay here if we are in the Newport area again. The host was very responsive to any questions we had and replied very quickly. Great place & great experience!

We have enjoyed spending time on the Oregon Coast for years and fell in love with the Sea Gem Cottage the moment we first met/stayed! When we aren't spending time at the Sea Gem ourselves, we enjoy allowing others to experience the beauty and calmness of oceanfront living.

Why they chose this property

The Newport area is the most beautiful and scenic part of the Oregon Coast in our opinion. There is abundant wildlife as well as the conveniences of a nearby city. Whales and seals have been viewed from the cottage. Seagulls and pelicans fly by the windows and float in the wind. The privacy granted by having a house on the ocean cannot be matched by a hotel or condo.

What makes this property unique

The cottage was built in the 1960's, but has been completely remodeled with tasteful, modern decor, yet keeping some of the original charm. It was then added on to in 2016 to include a loft and second bedroom. It is challenging to find modern properties with beach access on the Oregon Coast, and this cottage will not disappoint.
