It was a super great place to stay, we are planning another trip this summer and would love to stay at this same place. Tons of room, clean and great location.
The property is very clean with a view of the lake and it is close to the pictured rocks area for tours and hiking. This was a surprising cute home perfect for families and couples.
We loved our stay in Christmas (6 mins away from the center of Munising). Although the weather didn’t cooperate for all the activities we had planned we loved the property. The walk out to the beach was beautiful and the fall colors were popping.
Great location.. view is amazing , house could use some updating

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
Quaint older family cottage
For context, we are an older couple and were looking for a bit of privacy and quiet.
The listing pictures appear older and were not what we found and expected in particular with the location. The listing pictures conveniently exclude the property to the right (or east) of the cabin. There are two homes, and a third, huge 2 story building with the front half being a STR and directly adjacent to the cabin property line is a garage with several large pieces of equipment stored outside. All of this is completely visible from the deck that looks out to the lake. The house closest to the lake is new and under construction. Additionally, there is a building down by the lake that is not visible in the photographs. It was unclear which property this building belongs too, so we did not look closely at it.
The beach is not at all what is pictured. There was a small sandy area that we were able to get two chairs on, but immediately to the right are large boulders perhaps placed by the adjacent property owner. There was no expansive beach as shown in the photographs.
The other issue that was of most concern is the proximity to the road, which we now know is a major route between Munising and Marquette. As stated, we live rurally, so the volume of road noise all day and night are not part of our norm and really affected our enjoyment of the property. I would estimate the house is about 40 feet from the road, which was not seen in any of the photographs.
There is general maintenance needed on the cabin. There were issues with the stove and when I communicated with the owner, she indicated she was aware of them and planned to replace the stove "this fall" but rented the cabin in any event. It did not preclude our use, but it restricted it.
The cabin needs general maintenance. The living room and both kitchen windows (looking out towards the lake) do not open. When we looked at the enclosed porch (which opens into the living room) two of the 4 windows are painted shut and were a bit of a horror show filled with cobwebs and debris. It was very humid for a couple of days, and we were trying to get some cross ventilation. The cabin did have two fans for use.
With all that being said, the cottage was functional, and it shows the owners are trying to make it a comfortable place. It's in a good location and jump off point for the area. If quiet and privacy are not an issue, then I believe the cabin would serve most people satisfactorily
This charming cottage was a perfect homebase for our weeklong UP August vacation. Right on the property we enjoyed views of Grand Island, Sun and Moon rises, strolls on the beach, dinners on the deck, campfire, black bear sighting and the Northern lights!
Our host was incredibly gracious with quick responses and helpful guidance. The yard is nicely landscaped and maintained. We appreciated the Adirondack chairs and took those down to the beach. The place was tidy with lots of fresh linens, fully equipped kitchen and grill with tools. While we didn't take advantage of the sauna, the sauna shower was fabulous!
Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed the little crooked house...reminded me of my grandma's house! The beach in the backyard was beautiful...perfect for launching our kayaks and swimming. We also enjoyed visiting the area waterfalls and Grand Island. Riptide ride was fun and worth every penny! Our favorite was time at Au Train beach just 10 minutes down the road.
After many months of searching we knew Christmas was the place for us. It has been an honor and privilege to share our place over the years. Many visitors from around the world have enjoyed the beautiful scenery and great people of the area.
As a child, I spent most of my summer vacations on my grandparent’s dairy farm in Chatham (not far from Christmas). I also went to Northern Michigan University in Marquette. I have always loved being in the Upper Peninsula and dreamed of having a place on Lake Superior.
Christmas is a wonderful place to be any time of the year and we hope you agree.
