MORE INFO ABOUT THE COTTAGE / NEIGHBORHOOD
This is a VERY quiet property and neighborhood, especially at night. It is a property with private waterfront but the property is on a small, rather populated cove of the Niantic River, just one nautical mile from the ocean. This property is ideal for a small family of four, a small group of friends or for a romantic getaway. It is not the appropriate property for weddings, parties, reunions, retreats, musical or ceremonial events. Swimming is permitted and encouraged. It’s tidal and very brackish but clean water which means the water will feel more like the ocean than a lake. Nudity is prohibited by CT State law. Noise ordinances in the area apply from 8PM thru 8AM and are strictly enforced. We love this because it’s what makes it so tranquil at night. That said, the fire pit area is yours to use quietly, 24/7. We provide enough complimentary wood for one bonfire. Additional bundles of wood are for sale for $5 and can be found in the woodshed at the front of the garden where you can scan and pay via QR code. Please note, neighbors occasionally light fireworks from their waterfront properties. Smoking is prohibited anywhere in/on the property, including in your vehicle. One small breed dog (25 lbs or less) is permitted with an extra $50 fee. Dog must be crated when not with their human in the cottage and leashed outdoors. No peeing on grass EXCEPT the middle lawn, (where you step down) sunken part of the garden. We want you to be able to go freely barefoot in the upper garden so no pets are allowed up near or around the fire pit / lawn. Poopoo Bags are provided to clean up after your pet. All glass is strictly prohibited anywhere outside the cottage, including outdoor shower, garden and yards. Furniture is not to be rearranged or exchanged between the cottage or the garden. No furniture or firewood is allowed on the lawn. Nothing but toilet paper is permitted in the toilets. China closet and locked upstairs closet are to remain locked as they store valuables or seasonal catering supplies. Viking stove / oven must be handled and cleaned with care. Please do not use any abrasives. Gas Fireplace is not to be left unattended or left on for more than an hour at a time.

There for son's graduation and everything was lovely and details perfectly attended to. We thought it was kind to have fridge stocked with wine, bubbly water and juice. It was but you had to pay for it and we hadnt read the fine print. Don't let it keep you away, just a heads-up!

Relaxing getaway on the cove
Beautiful home with lovely outdoor space to relax and enjoy. The home is well appointed, includes many amenities, and is very considerate of what you might need (eg, even including step stools for children to reach sinks). The host provides a binder of many suggestions for where to eat and what to do in the area. We really enjoyed our stay.

The perfect getaway with the perfect host!
Everything about The Keeny Cove Cottage was absolutely PERFECT. Jules was the most gracious and amazing host and left no amenity unthought of. From the robes and slippers for the guests to the books, games, treats for the kids. The house is gorgeous and has so much history. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked and the outdoor shower was a very special treat. Jules was a wealth of knowledge about the area and gave us tons of ideas for stores, restaurants, and activities. The whole experience was truly fantastic and put together with so much love in every detail. We cannot wait to go and spend more time there!

Great getaway
Although I personally didn’t get to stay (sick baby had us cancelling plans), the couple we were supposed to go away with enjoyed their stay. They said the place was very clean, very organized, and they had everything available you can think of. Jules was a great host and was eager to share ideas on where to eat. One small hiccup a the fireplace stopped working. Jules did respond quickly and offered a refund or bottle of wine. I hope we get to visit ourselves next time we’re in the area.

Magical New England Weekend
Our stay at Keeny Cove Cottage surpassed all expectations. It is a charming little house in a beautiful scenic location, perfect for a couples’ getaway, family vacation or, in our case, girls' weekend reunion. The owner has done an amazing job of furnishing, decorating and stocking the cottage, with a keen awareness of what guests need and want in a vacation rental. Right out the front door is a waterfront area where you can spot wildlife of Keeny Cove, enjoy a kayak, paddle board or canoe adventure, bask in the sun or lounge fireside while gazing at the stars. The location was the perfect location for various day trips, and a notebook is provided with detailed recommendations for outdoor adventures, sights to see, shopping, places to eat, etc. I highly recommend Keeny Cove Cottage for a truly unforgettable visit to the New England coast. Thank you, Jules, we'll be back soon!

Perfect long weekend escape
The cottage was adorable, well appointed, and so inviting. Every amenity and detail was covered, there was absolutely nothing in the house we lacked! Even our dog was taken care of, with bowls set out for our arrival and “pup” tent for lounging. Kayaks and outdoor space were terrific, only wish it hadn’t rained the last night so we could have had our s’mores over the fire pit! Lovely neighborhood to walk around too.

Our home away from home
I cannot speak highly enough about our stay. We selected Keeney Cove on a whim, but will absolutely 100% make this a vacation stay for our family. From our initial booking to check out Jules made us feel like family and this was more than what we knew we needed in a rental. From personal tour to local recommendations we were never asking "what should we do ". As a family we loved exploring the home, river, and local recommendations. Everything we needed was here and it made Keeny Cove feel like home. We have been inspired artistically, spiritually, and mentally. Keeney Cove will be a vacation spot for years to come for our family.

Magical!
My husband and I stayed at the Oswegatchie House with our 5-year old and mini bernedoodle. As soon as you open the door, you are greeted by a perfectly curated space that has EVERY thoughtful amenity one can need! Every bit of the space is cozy and decorated with plush furnishings (including all the beds!). The waterfront is super accessible / clean / safe and the kayaks were fun to take out with our daughter :) If you are lost for something to do, the owner, Jules, will gladly share all her favorite spots. She has also taken the time to list (and lovingly describe) her top places in the information binder. The location is a perfect jumping-off point for the various activities within the area. We didn't realize how much there was to do and looking forward to our next stay at The Oswegatchie House II!

About the host

Hosted by Jules West

Host profile image
Hi! I’m your host Jules! A native New Hampshirite, I'm an avid traveler/adventurer (mainly solo) and have enjoyed staying as a guest around the world. It's always been my dream to be a host and now that dream is a reality. During the week, I work as a business consultant, helping New England restaurants and new businesses operate and save money. During the weekend, I can be found kayaking, cooking, gardening, hiking, exploring, antiquing, planning new adventures and hosting friends. I try to split my time between in CT in Boston but CT has been my home since 2009. If y9ou're interested in a homemade professionally made meal, please message me. I'd love to cook for you.

Why they chose this property

The Keeny Cove Cottage is a special little gem that's on a piece of land that hugs the Shoreline of Keeny Cove, a small brackish inlet off the Niantic River, just a mile from the ocean. A small hotel called The Oswegatchie House built a mile away back at the turn of the 20th Century once was the only place offering lodging until it burned down in 1935. When I bought this property, I wanted to share it's charm and tranquility with others. The Keeny Cove Cottage is now a beautiful option for guests visiting the area. We hope to give you a memorable and fun experience while you stay in Oswegatchie Village. Nestled on the Northern mouth of Keeny Cove, a cozy and lazy cove of the beautiful Niantic River, wedged in between Niantic and Waterford. The waters in front of the house (similar to your host) are salty at (83%-87%) brackish. A vast variety of flora and fauna as well as sea creatures live in and around Oswegatchie and the Niantic River.

From the front garden, enjoy viewing several species of birds, crabs (both Blue and Hermit) as well as swans, ducks, owls, seagulls, the resident hawk and fox families and the occasional Bald Eagle. Enjoy the Perennial garden or a nap in the hammock on the mini-beach or enjoy your coffee / cocktail on the dock. At night, sit around the bonfire that doubles as a grill to give you a memorable and fun experience while you stay in Oswegatchie.

There are miles of trails within walking distance of the house or if you’re very adventurous, have a go at kayaking, canoeing or paddle boarding. Rentals available. Enjoy fishing, bring your rod and catch your dinner from the dock. Walk to the nearby farm stand to pick out your sides and herbs to accompany your dinner. While you’re there, cut your own bouquet of farm grown wild flowers.

If you have little ones, they’ll enjoy the goats that live at the farm stand or the playground and chickens at the Oswegatchie Elementary School just a few streets behind the house, an easy five minute walk.

What makes this property unique
