About this property

Riddle Branch Cabin is on a fully treed 23-acre secluded mountain reserve. You are almost on top of Little Bald Mountain with access to the Appalachian Trail. Hike during the day and relax in the spa at night enjoying Bluetooth music and of course the view.

Our cabin is ideally suited for that couple looking to get away from it all, relax with nature, and enjoy all the mountain sites.

Burnsville is 12 miles away and Asheville is only a 45-minute drive. Caretaker is on site to assist with any special needs or requests.

Direct access to the cabin requires an AWD vehicle. For those guests arriving in a 2WD vehicle transportation can be arranged during check-in and check-out. Parking is available at the base of the driveway with a 600 ft walk up to the cabin.

Anniversary weekend

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. The host Mark was very thorough in explaining how everything works and maintained communication throughout our stay to ensure everything was well and asked if we needed anything. The cabin was very clean and just as described. The hot tub was fantastic. We enjoyed sitting on the porch reading and relaxing with the mountains in the distance. The water feature was a nice touch for a relaxing experience. If you are looking for a nice couples cabin in the mountains this was a great choice.

Quiet Getaway, Just What We Needed

We were looking for a secluded getaway as a respite from our busiest time of year at work, and it didn't disappoint. We were greeted with warm hospitality and more essentials than I've ever had provided in another rental. The layout is secluded with scenic views but very drive-able to local trails/outposts/city for days you want to get out and explore. I'd highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy the nature and beauty western Carolina has to offer!

Perfect cabin to relax and unwind!

This adorable remote cabin sincerely exceeded our expectations. It actually felt like our home away from home. It was so clean, tastefully decorated, and we truly felt spoiled with all the brand new appliances. Mark, the property owner, did not cut any corners with this cabin. It is a beautiful place which allowed my boyfriend and I to break away from the stresses of daily life. The absolute perfect way to rejuvenate! I can't forget to mention the hot tub - I think we spent more time in the hot tub, than out! What a great way to celebrate my boyfriend's 50th birthday! He felt so spoiled! Mark - thank you for treating us like family. You are so thoughtful and personable. You definitely aim to please and made sure our vacation was perfect, and it was! Even with the close proximity, you respected our privacy and we knew you were just a phone call away if we needed anything. If we are ever in the area again, we will be definitely returning to this cabin.

Relaxing get away

Very clean and quiet. Mark was willing to be a guide and also picked up some sunscreen for me while he was out and about? I prefer using vbro to communicate but Mark is a phone call kinda guy. I was a little worried when I first saw he lived on the other side of the driveway but he did not come over unannounced which I appreciated.

Wedding Anniversary Getaway!

My wife and I returned to our favorite vacation cabin and enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing vacation. The cabin is very clean and nicely appointed and the luxurious hot tub was soothing after returning from hikes along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our host was amazing and made sure we were comfortable during our repeat visit. 3 deer visited us every evening and our host led me on a several mile hike of the Appalachian Trail! The views were breathtaking! Mark, thank you for helping create wonderful memories and we look forward to our next visit!

The Great Escape!

This cabin is a perfect place to escape life's chaos. We were able to relax and enjoy the tranquility and remoteness of the mountain. We enjoyed the Hot Tub Spa multiple times during our stay. We watched deer come by each evening to feed on the edge of the woods/meadow. Mark (the host), will walk you through every aspect of the cabin and it's amenities. Mark goes the extra mile to ensure you have everything you need during your stay. He takes great pride in his cabin and it shows! There are special touches throughout the cabin and decks. The Spa robes, towels and slippers are plush and provide a luxurious feel to the experience. Mark has put together a top of the line product for his guests and we appreciate his commitment to quality. Mark will also send you a quick check in text each morning to see if you need anything and to make sure you are satisfied. Mark is present if you need him, but also fully respects your privacy. Everything in the cabin is impeccably clean. I had a small spill on the kitchen floor our first night. I cleaned it up with the provided paper towels were they still white, showing no residue or dirtiness. The kitchen is well appointed and you will likely find everything you need. If you are looking for a place to unwind, relax an reconnect, this is a great place. If you bring enough provisions, you might not want to leave the cabin all! Thank you Mark for a great long weekend to celebrate the anniversary of my wife's "29th" birthday!

The perfect weekend away!

When we arrived at the cabin it was a brisk 29° day but that didn't stop Mark from meeting us at the road. He helped guide us up the driveway and helped unload our luggage to the cabin. The cabin itself is amazing, it has every amenity you could ask for. Mark checked in periodically throughout our stay, made sure we had everything we needed and that we were always comfortable. On the last day he helped us get the luggage loaded back, up through the snow, in the 6° weather. The only thing I would change about our trip would be a little less snow. We will definitely be back to experience more of what the area has to offer. Thank you Mark for making our trip amazing!

Cozy Cabin Getaway

Great quiet getaway

This little cabin was perfect for me and my wife. It’s a little trek up the mountain but we actually preferred that as it gets you up and out of busy areas. The cabin itself was cozy,quiet, and very clean, Mr. Mark, the host, was available to show us how to work the spa and other appliances. In the mornings we were able to eat breakfast and watch deer out on the side yard. Overall we had a great experience.

Clean and So Quiet

This was one of the best vacation rentals we have ever rented. The house is very, very nice. It was spotless and very well-appointed. Mark was extremely friendly. We loved the hot tub!!! It was an excellent vacation, and we will definitely be coming back!!

Mountain Vacay

We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful surroundings and cabin. The host went above and beyond to make us comfortable during our stay. He was extremely helpful and responsive to our needs. Fantastic cabin in the mountains

We loved everything about this cabin. It was private and so quiet in the mountains. The interior was lovely and super clean. The outside was comfortable and we loved the hot tub (used it every day morning and night). The host was so helpful and gave great ideas of things to do in the area. He was very easy to communicate with and even helped us with getting our stuff in and out of the cabin because our car wouldn't make it up the driveway. We would definitely recommend this place. The bed we stayed in was comfortable, the appliances were all sparkling and looked brand new. The grill outside was great for cooking dinner. We saw lots of deer and wildlife while enjoying our coffee on the porch in the morning.

Perfect getaway

First off, the place was immaculate, better than any stayed in before. Stayed three nights and never moved the car. Private, great spa, views were great, best part of all was the resident mountain dog Daisy. She attached herself to us, which certainly helped ease our minds if we wanted to star gaze at night, she wasn't going to let any intruders (by that I mean animals) sneak up on us. Will certainly be back, it's great to get away from everything and just chill on the mountainside for that amount of time.

Perfect Get-a-Way!

We looked forward to our vacation this year and wanted a quiet and peaceful place to recharge. This cabin, the location, and host (along with Daisy the dog) made it all our wish come true! This cabin is remote and is impeccable with everything (accept food) to make for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Having the spa made it extra relaxing. Everything is top of the line. We enjoyed every moment of our stay, and the host was a pleasant and helpful. Daisy the Mountain Dog was a bonus we hadn't counted on :-) We have nothing negative to say and would love to return one day. Thank you for the pleasant and relaxing stay!

Great Cabin with Amazing Views!

We had a great time staying at Mark's cabin. The cabin is located high into the mountains which offer a feel of remoteness and peace. The covered deck and patio furniture offer a great place to take in the views of the surrounding mountains. We watched deer, turkey, and squirrels feed in the yard as we relaxed in the hot tub. Mark was a great host and very responsive. He took us on a great hike on the Appalachian Trail, recommended restaurants and local business we might enjoy, and also took us on a tour of the area in his UTV. This is our 12th VRBO property we have stayed at and is one of our favorites. The cabin was in perfect condition and offered a few amenities most other VRBO's overlook. We recommend this cabin and will visit again.

Absolutely PERFECT

I don’t even know where to start. This was the best weekend we’ve had in a long time. The cabin was in pristine condition. Everything you need is there and brand new. Mark was beyond awesome! One of the nicest people you will ever meet. He went out of his way to help us with the late check-in and I can’t thank him enough for that. “Not my dog” Daisy is the local lab that hangs out and if you’re like us you’re gonna want to take her home with you. She’s awesome. It was the perfect weekend we were looking for and will 100% no doubt be going back sooner than later. Thank you again Mark for making this weekend special.

Wonderful Cabin

This was our second time staying at Mark's cabin. It was just as wonderful as the first. So peaceful and quiet, just what the soul needs to recharge from this crazy world. This time we got out a little and spent half a day exploring the downtown area of Burnsville. There's several cute shops to visit, I really enjoyed Something Special Gift Shop. Before heading back to the cabin we ate an early dinner at Pig & Grits, great food and service. Can't say enough good things about Mark and his cabin. I got to catch up with Daisy the mountain doggy and on our last night/morning we woke up to a beautiful dusting of SNOW. Just the perfect way to end our getaway. We're looking forward to many more visits here. Thank you again Mark.

Best VRBO stay ever

The property was as advertised, thoroughly appointed with everything a guest would need, clean as a whistle and tastefully decorated without too much extra "stuff." The location and view were terrific, and the porch comfortable enough to justify staying home for the day. The host, Mark, was great. He was very responsive to questions and needs, yet he disappeared if you preferred to be left alone. The neighborhood dog, Daisy, provided nice company. Just a note: Yes, you do need 4-wheel or all-wheel drive for this property. Overall, an excellent place.

Wonderful cabin tucked away

This was by far the best experience I have ever had booking through VRBO. Having Mark on the property was great for anything we might need when needed. He was an excellent host, which made our stay so enjoyable. The cabin is beautiful, the spa was great, and Daisy the mountain dog was a wonderful addition. She greeted us every morning on the porch and was a joy to have around. I cannot wait to book again with Mark. Maybe by then Scott will have become that wine expert. :) We will definitely be back!! First Yancey County visit.

Mark was an excellent host. Even though he is located next door we never new he was around but he did offer us some good advice on places we might want to visit. The cabin was very clean and really nice. I love the quiet location. It was very peaceful and relaxing. Daisy the neighborhood dog kept us company and watched over the cabin for us while we were out. This was a great experience and we will be looking forward to another visit.

I was fortunate to retire early and explore the mountains of Western North Carolina. Living in Florida most of my life I was always a fan of the mountains. It was several years before I realized that the Appalachian Trail was almost behind the property. My niece came to visit and we hiked up the north side of Riddle Branch and before we knew it we were on the trail. Riddle Branch Cabin sits at 3700' and the trail is 5000' plus. I joined the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and am a member of the Carolina Mountain Club. I currently am a Trail Maintainer and manage a 3.6-mile section behind the property from Little Bald Mountain south to Big Bald Mountain. My section also includes a shelter, privy, and two water sources.

Why they chose this property

When I first started looking for mountain property in North Carolina I had a wish list of 10 items. Riddle Branch has 14! The pluses were the view and acreage. I also did not expect to be so close to the Appalachian Trail or have several springs on the property. I enjoy walking down to the end of the driveway and listening to the sounds of Riddle Branch. There is something to say about rippling water cascading over the boulders and rocks. My family and friends have enjoyed Riddle Branch Cabin, mountain air, and the sounds of nature. Come visit and enjoy!

What makes this property unique

Riddle Branch Cabin is the perfect spot to unwind and unplug. You may hear some roosters or donkeys from the valley below but mostly it will be just the wind and birds. There are no coffee bars nearby or exciting night life...other than nature itself! I enjoy watching the deer. The chipmunks will forage for acorns while the birds swoop down and pester them into their burrows. You can relax in the spa, listen to music, and appreciate nature's entertainment.
