This is the place you've been looking for-come for the ultimate family summer getaway!

*There is a 3 night minimum on summer weekends May-August.

*The bathrooms on the first floor have been newly renovated. The basement bathroom of the lake house has not been renovated, but is functional and a full bathroom.

RUNNERS/MOUNTAIN BIKERS:

Head out the door, down the peaceful lake road, and explore the nearby trails via the Gravel Pit Road trailhead/CAMBA MTN BIKE trail (.5 miles away) which leads to over 300 miles of mountain bike, ATV, and running trails.

FISHING INFO:

The navigable channel at the end of McClain Lake takes you to Upper Twin Lake, which is classified as class A musky waters, and is abundant with Musky, Perch, and Bluegill. Or fish right from our new dock for bass and panfish!

SWIMMING INFO:

While McClain is a great lake for fishing, it's mucky bottom isn't always ideal to those wishing to swim. Because of this, we provide a lily pad for our guests to attach to the end of the dock to enjoy swimming off of/on. Swimming is also great off a pontoon or from an island the next lake over.

BOATING INFO:

The nearest public boat landing is 4 minutes away by car. You are more than welcome to bring your own boat, but please keep in mind that McClain is a no wake lake. For full rec fun, the next lake over (Upper Twin) allows wakes between 11am-5pm every day and is accessible through the navigable channel at the top of McClain. Black Iron Grill is accessible via the lake for a delicious meal right from the boat! For pontoon rentals, we recommend Hayward Power Sports which is 4 minutes away. After your booking, we will email you a discount code for 10% off the rental.

ATV/UTV/SNOWMOBILERS: All town roads are ATV routes unless otherwise marked, however we do ask all guests to drive slowly on our road as many neighbors walk daily. The trailhead can be found at the end of our road. There is room for parking up to 2 trailers at the property, and maneuvering can be done with the use of our round-about.

PARKING/DRIVEWAY: In the summer months, we have parking for 6+ cars. In the winter, we have room for 5. There is one dedicated spot for the EV charger that is shared with the cottage next door. Please note that our driveway is quite steep and difficult to navigate in winter months, we HIGHLY recommend 4WD. Fortunately our property shares a round-a-bout with the next door for maneuvering. Please note that we do not control the neighbors plowing and clearing schedule.

*Please note that this listing is for the Lake House ONLY and is part of the Acorn Shores resort, with some amenities being shared. Shared amenities include the EV charger, parking, canoe and the Lily Pad. The lake house has a private dock, grill, firepit, 2 kayaks and SUP.

Great spacious winter cabin!

We booked this location because it was close to the Birkie trail and had a hot tub! We loved the views to the lake. It very comfortably and easily fit 4 adults and 3 young kids. Kitchen was well equipped, beds were comfortable, and the 2 living room areas were great to spread out. The 2 bathrooms upstairs were much more updated while the lower bath had some retro basement vibes but very clean and no complaints! We went sledding out the front of the cabin and it was only 10 minutes drive to one of the Birkie trailheads. The hottub was awesome at night after a day of activities and we appreciated all the unused beach towels as well. We would stay here again!

Quiet Weekend Vacation

We had a great time! Quiet area with a few homes close by, but otherwise very private. Great amenities. We paddleboarded and kayaked every day. Plenty of space for a large family to stay, cook meals, enjoy the outdoors.

Great lodge at the lake - perfect for families!

The lodge is very nice and the hosts are always helping to have a great time. If there was something missing or not working, the hosts replied quickly. As it is a huge house the time between checkout and checkin must be big enough to let the staff clean up according to the hosts expectation. The ice maker in the fridge was shut off by the hosts on purpose. The foosball was broken, but the hosts immediately took care of it. The amenities with the boats and the shear is great! We would always stay there again.

Fill with Amenities

The home was very clean. It had more amenities than any other vacation rental I have stayed in. The kitchen had everything imaginable and the bathrooms were also nicely stocked. The hot tub seemed new and in great condition. The lake is beautiful to look at but it is weedy and mucky (as noted in the listing) so we chose not to swim there. We rented a boat on nearby Round Lake. The host was very accessible and helpful.

Family vacation

I loved our stay at acorn shores! My family and I vacationed here and everyone enjoyed themselves including our dogs. We enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on the lake. We also loved the outdoor fire and s’mores by the lake watching the sun set! The place was great and we were at one with nature. It was like a cabin in the middle of the woods only upgraded! The locals were so kind. You have to go eat at the Tavern! Great food and such kind people. We also enjoyed our pontoon and fishing boat rental with Hayward power sports! Definitely a great experience!

Great Find on Short Notice!

Acorn Shores Resort worked out really well for our family of 8. The 4 bedrooms were well appointed and the 3 baths were great. The kitchen was well equipped, and my wife really liked the ample storage for our food. The main activity on these annual trips is fishing, with floating on the lake being second. We rented a 24 ft pontoon from Hayward Power Sports. The dock could be a little longer and higher to better accommodate a boat of this size. We almost had to be on shore to get the entry gate by the dock. The fishing on both Lake McClaine and Upper Twin produced a wide variety of fish, but no musky or walleye. Most everyone enjoyed the hot tub multiple times. If we weren't on the water, we typically sat on the porch to enjoy the lake view through the trees. We saw that this house is a work-in-process with some trim still to be installed. However, it did not detract from our very enjoyable stay. Acorn Shores is on our short list to visit again.

Solid spot with lake access

10 of us stayed at this property for a boys fishing trip. Cabin is in a great location, not too close to town, but close enough that it’s not a big deal to run in. Lake access is great. House layout and beds were great, although it did seem that some areas were still under construction. Not a big deal. Plenty of room to spread out and definitely enough room to sleep 10. One thing to keep in mind is that the neighboring cottage (part of the same “resort”), is literally right next door, as in maybe 20 feet. If another group is renting the cottage, you’ll have to share the dock, fire pit, and canoes/kayaks with them. We were lucky that the host was staying next door our weekend - if it had been another group that wanted dock/fire pit access, there definitely is not enough room on the dock to tie up two boats. We also followed the hosts suggestion and rented from Hayward Power Sports. Excellent service and experience. Fishing tips: we had the best luck on trolling crank baits for northern/bass in the connected lake, with some small hits on casting spinners on the home lake. Worms and jigs were great for sunfish and crappie as well. This property is accommodating for any type of stay you’d want to have, and the hosts are great with communication. If I’m in the area, I would certainly consider staying here again.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with this property because of it's unique set up, a large lake house with a another cottage next door where large families can enjoy vacationing together. We also love that the lake is quiet and peaceful and not over-touristed the water is clear and spring-fed, and the fish plentiful.

ACCESS: codes are sent the day of check-in via email. Guests are able to self check-in anytime after 4pm via the electronic deadbolt.

PARKING/DRIVEWAY: In the summer months, we have parking for 6+ cars. In the winter, we have room for 5. We recommend 4WD cars in the winter.

HOT TUB: Be advised that the hot tub may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance. Our goal is to ensure it remains safe and functional for all our guests. While we make every effort to schedule maintenance outside of your stay dates, there may be rare instances where it needs attention during your visit. We appreciate your understanding in this.

CAMERAS: We have cameras on the premises. Doorbell cameras are located at the front doors and monitor the entry and the driveway, and there are others monitoring the driveway, cottage back doors, and wood pile. Cameras are motion activated and record audio and video and are monitored infrequently (typically at time of check-in to make sure you made it in and after check-out, though we reserve the right to check more frequently if we receive notice of rule violations) Your reservation will be terminated immediately if you disable, unplug, tamper with, cover, block or alter the WIFI equipment or security equipment (cameras).
