About this property

Spacious & secluded grand home near Kickapoo River, Bike Trails, & ATV routes

A private road leads to New Haven Manor Vacation Stay and Event Venue, where peace and tranquility is found. This grand home is nestled on 80 acres of woodland and pasture. In March 2021, it became part of the historic Devil's Hole Ranch. The ranch has a website. Guests can Google it and find out the history and reason for the name of our ranch. Occasionally, cattle or horses graze in the pasture.

There are six actual bedrooms, while the landing at the top of the spiral staircase is large enough to have the two twins combined into a trundle bed. So, while not an actual bedroom, the landing serves as a sleeping space complete with a wardrobe and a large dresser for guest's clothes and belongings. There is also a traditional staircase that has a sturdy handrail. There are three large full bathrooms, a laundry room, a newly remodeled all-purpose room in the garage area with twin beds and more. This lovely home has 5,000 sq. ft. of living space!

New Haven is a nature lover's paradise where wildlife abounds. It's the perfect place to unwind and/or reunite with friends and family for reunions, special events like weddings, seminars, etc.
In the heart of Amish country, within minutes, you can be riding the Sparta-Elroy bicycle trail, canoeing the Kickapoo River, enjoying Wildcat Mt. State Park or the Kickapoo Reserve. Cook Creek has trout, and it runs right through the property.

Guest access
Secluded and away from it all, New Haven Manor is located on an 80-acre section of the historic Devil's Hole Ranch. This property was added to the ranch in March of 2021. Beginning on May 19, 2023, the ranch changed to a program of grazing yearling steers after 80 years as a cow-calf operation. So, during grass season, the cattle in the pasture graze on our land. The goal is to put weight on these yearlings before they become feeder cattle. Since the cattle are fresh to our pastures, we have reinforced our fences with new areas that are visible from the house. The grounds at New Haven Manor feature a firepit area and a large flat expanse of lawn perfect for wedding ceremonies and large tents for receptions.

Other things to note:
Mobility issues
New Haven is a farmhouse with two major additions. Therefore, within the house on both levels, there are step ups and step downs. We have a sofa bed and two couches on the main level for those who can't navigate a staircase.
Besides the spiral staircase, there is a traditional staircase with a sturdy railing to go upstairs. There is a garage entry that has fewer steps than the walk to the front door, but still has several steps to get into the house.

Lovely Stay
We had a great time at Paula's house! Lots of room for our large group consisting of 4 families. Paula was very quick to respond to any questions either through the app or directly via text. Loved canoeing in the Kickapoo River and hiking in the state park. Found a great bowling alley in Tomah for a rainy night. Would recommend! Thanks, Paula.

Quiet farmhouse, good for large group
House can accommodate large groups both indoors and out. Our group of 16 adults and 3 dogs enjoyed the location and privacy. We did not have internet at all during our stay. Also, we needed to pick up our own shampoos. A short drive to a lot of fun outdoor activities.

Very nice property for a group, we were 8. Very remote, and that's not negative, peace, quiet and nature surrounded the house. A great place to get away from it all.

This place is amazing we named it the Kickapoo Mansion
We rented this for a Jazzercise team bonding weekend. The owner’s are so accommodating and nice, they even called to tell us to hit the cellar because of tornadoes. It’s amazing the fun 9 women can have drinking wine in a cellar.

Peaceful Getaway
We stayed for a week at New Haven manor and enjoyed every minute. The house is set back about a 1/4 mile from the road making it a very quiet and private property. We were delighted to be able to see the mother cows and their calves and missed them when they were moved to another pasture! The kids and adults alike ( 10 of us) enjoyed the front deck and lawn and loved the fire pit where we watched the night sky. Paula was a wonderful host and provided us with everything we needed including a delivery of firewood after we ran out. Communication with her was very prompt and clear, before, during and after our stay. If you are looking for a laid back stay amongst rolling hills, Amish farms and quiet country roads, you’ll love New Haven Manor.

Safety issues
There's a 2 stairs that were lose and dangerous for the kids. Air condition does not cover the whole house we were lucky it was a cool weekend. Our lights went out with no explanation and cause. We were out of electricity and water for a while. I will say Paula did do great job a responding and sending out gallons of water in case we needed for flushing the toilet away. There's random steps that was dangerous for all adults and kids if not paying attention to thier step through out the house. The big loft room was not air conditioned. There was a portable AC but was not working also is where one of the dangerous stair was located.

Fabulous Family Vacation
This lovely country home welcomed us with open arms. Three generations found ample space to rest and enjoy our family. From here we biked the Elroy Sparta Trail, hiked through beautiful Wildcat Mountain State Park, and canoed the Kickapoo River. It was perfect.

Quiet and peaceful.
Great property that had enough beds, bathrooms, and fully stocked kitchen to accommodate 10 guys on motorcycles. Grilling an evening meal and enjoying it on the shaded deck made the experience awesome. Star gazing after dark was stellar.

About the host

Hosted by Paula Menn

Host profile image
I am a former Speech, Drama and English teacher. I host three vacation rentals and manage several rental properties. As a co-owner of the historic Devil's Hole Ranch with my husband, Dr. Jeff Menn. I also plan, coordinate, and host cattle drive clinic weekends seasonally at the ranch.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property as an additional 80 acres to our ranch in March, 2021. I redecorated the house to reflect our ranch lifestyle. LeAnne was manager until January 2022. I learned so much from her about this business and am now prepared to do the management myself. I enjoy hosting guests from all walks of life!

What makes this property unique

New Haven Manor Vacation Stay and Event Venue is the perfect place for multi-generational family reunions, weddings, retreats, seminars and the like. It had been operating as a vacation stay for several years prior to our purchase in March 2021. The house can comfortably sleep 19, but more can be accommodated if guests bring air mattresses or even tents.
The newly remodeled (summer of 2023) double car garage now serves as an all-purpose room. It makes loading in and out much easier and has a long counter to set groceries on upon arrival. There's an extra full size refrigerator for overflow food, beverages and ice.
