Horrible check-in experience

The check-in process for this stay was horrible. When we arrived on the island I asked for the door code for the unit. After not receiving a response for several hours I contacted VRBO. They also could not contact the host and ended up finding us another place to stay for the first night. For the second night we received the door code and drove to the address on the VRBO posting. The problem is that the address sent us to the wrong place and had no unit number. Also, the building color was green instead of white which made it harder to find. We ended up getting in contact with the host to find the unit. The place itself was nice once we were able to get in. We did find out that the living room TV was non-functional once we settled for the night.

We booked the property back in August of 2022 for a 1 night stay in late March 2023. At that time, the listing had AC represented so we were shocked to enter the condo and have the temps hovering around 85 degrees. There are AC units in the condo (3) but upon asking the owner how to turn on, the response was there is no AC, that is why we do not market the unit with AC on VRBO. If you read back through the reviews you will see that some people had AC, some had it but it was not working properly and some were asked to pay a fee to use the AC. IT WAS SO HOT AND HUMID when we checked in and opening the screen doors were no help. The screens do not lock and you are on the first floor. Totally do not feel safe sleeping with all the doors fully opened and our kids on the couch with no locking doors. To top it off, Kauai has roosters everywhere which is not a problem. But it is a problem when you stay in a room that has no ac and you have to keep your doors wide open. Nice wake up calls at 4:30 am! The master bedroom bed is trash and has a huge sink hole in the middle so that you both literally roll into each other and the sheets smelled musty. Needless to stay, for a room where I spent over a lot of money for one night, I felt like it was a complete bait and switch and would not recommend it to anyone. Owners need to provide AC and be honest with people if things changed from when someone originally booked their reservation.

Not the intended vacation.

The location and layout of the property is a dream - spacious, clean, a great kitchen with everything we could hope for and a master suite like a palace. However, whether due to storm or shower, we had plumbing issues almost as soon as we arrived. Water would periodically come UP from the pipes and out the crack between the toilet and the bathroom floor. It didn't matter if we used the bathrooms or not (we did our business elsewhere). Property management was quick to respond to our inital messages and call the plumber, but unfortunately didn't communicate anything to us after that, and the plumbing was not fixed during our stay. We stayed 4 nights. By the 3rd night the place smelled like an outhouse from the "upflow." We were also pretty stinky from not being able to shower. So close to a great trip and yet...it was like camping. :-/

Worked well for our family

Very well stocked. Spacious. Lights and fans were hard to figure out in every room. Hard to get a hold of property manager. Couldn’t access beach without a car. Overall our family enjoyed the space and worth it.

Beautiful, but not all good

This property and location were cool. It’s Hawaii so no matter where you stay it’s beautiful. Unfortunately this place just lacked comfortable beds, no air conditioning as advertised, and the kitchen stove barely worked. The property is a cool spot, but we left early and checked into an Air B&B because we were so miserable and hot. If they put hammocks outside of this place we could have slept outside and been more comfortable than inside with the humidity.

Perfect place, as long as you don’t need wifi

It was great and as advertised. However, I did have some work to do and wifi was poor throughout. The owner did send someone to fix after we are gone, but we suspect it is a location thing and not fixable based on the explanation given, so not a big deal if you don’t need Wi-Fi, but could be if you do.

Disappointed

Property itself was great. Quiet location, grounds were pretty. Had issues right off the bat with the code not working on the front door...tried to call host and got a voicemail that says we were calling after hours and could not leave a message. We texted the number and got a text back..when we asked her to call us, she did and after listening to me over the phone trying to open the door, she says well maybe the glass doors on the opposite side of the unit is open! HUH???? Why would you leave the unit unlocked - unless you already knew the front door lock was faulty! And this unit is one of the closest to the parking lot and road. It was dark and I did as she said and surprise, the glass door was unlocked. BUT, the light near that door did not work, so I prayed there was no one in the unit and felt my way around to the front door and we got in. There was a good 1ft. square hole in one of the screen doors, tracks were rusty and door could not open very easily, there were roaches in one bathroom, towels smelled musty and chemically (like they sprayed raid or something), shower heads were not working well, toilet ran after flushing, ac in the main bedroom was not very cool, TVs didn't work -because the internet wasn't working (even after trying to troubleshoot many times), many of the lights did not work. Funny note: all the screen doors are INSIDE and the glass doors are OUTSIDE - a little backward! After all that at 5am the upstairs unit had a couple kids running around that woke us up! They should have been downstairs with the little yard area to run! Needless to say, we will not be booking this entire condo area again...and probably not even use VRBO!

Sept 2022 Stay

At the time of booking, the listing didn't include images of the full property nor many descriptive details - so wanted to add some here for clarification... The condo is on the ground floor - you will have someone over you that you can hear from time to time. The primary bedroom is large with a huge ensuite bathroom. The second bedroom is smaller and has adjacent bathroom. The loft style room you see in the photos is owner storage. The condo does not have AC. Another review mentioned AC available, so I had mistakenly assumed AC was available. I realize this is common in Hawaii, however the condo (at the time of our stay) could not accommodate a stay without AC. There are large sliding doors throughout the property which would need to be open in order to maintain a pleasant temperature. At the time of our stay, one of the glass sliding doors in the living room was shattered and therefore not usable. The screen on the sliding door in the dining room has a "doggie" door cutout (no door, just the cutout of where one had been located), which would allow chickens (we had an aggressive mom and chicks at the time of our stay) to come into the property. This leaves one functioning door and two small windows to provide airflow in the living/dining/kitchen area which provided minimal relief to the heat - especially in the afternoon. The sliding door in the primary bedroom doesn't lock. Arriving late at night (after travel delays) to a shattered sliding door in the living room and a door that didn't lock in the primary bedroom was not comforting. Upon messaging the manager, she said she knew about the shattered door (a heads up would have been nice prior to arrival) and ignored my concern about the locking function of the primary sliding door. We could have just had some unfortunate timing for our stay. But, I would not choose to stay here again.
