PineTops has charm galore!! Just 4 miles from Main Street, Highlands, NC, the cabin is located in a private residential community adjacent to the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Skyline Lodge. The Lodge has recently been totally renovated and offers 5-star accommodations, a fabulous bar and renowned Oak Steakhouse. PineTops offers all of the amenities of home including fiber-optic internet service. This 3 bedroom/3 bath cabin is decorated to the tee - comfortable furnishings with cozy quilts and bright interiors. There are even sleep machines in each bedroom ! There are new window unit air conditioners in each of the 3 bathrooms that serve its adjacent bedroom and the living areas of the cabin.

The 2 downstairs bedrooms and baths have been redone due to water damage in December of 2023 to include fresh paint, carpet, new bathroom flooring and accessories. The bath adjacent to the queen bedroom has a new tub/shower combo and vanity; while the bath off of the twin bedroom has a new 5-foot walk-in shower - perfect for handicap access.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all of the amenities. Coffee makers both drip and Keurig, microwave, toaster oven and dishes galore for entertaining. There is a new Weber gas grill on the open deck.

The cabin is situated in a garden setting planted by the owner and offers a newly built large outdoor fire pit area with bench seating. Enjoy the large, fully decorated screened-in-porch with a TV that doubles the living space of the cabin. Original art work adorns the walls making it seem even more like home. The quiet, wooded setting of PineTops is on the Cashiers, NC side of Highlands making it convenient to that lovely mountain village, as well.

Shady tree-top retreat

We loved Pinetops - especially the large screen porch perched high above the hillside and surrounded by the forest canopy. It was our dining space, living room and even a home office for much of our stay. Working with the owner was a breeze.

Heavenly Highlands

This lovely home tucked away in the woods(and yet convenient to everything) is a great getaway. The house is equipped with everything you might need to enjoy a home-cooked meal, games, movies, internet, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you like a good trail ride, I recommend Arrowmont Stables...they do a wonderful job. We can't wait to return to PineTops!

Wonderful, charming home nestled in the woods

We had a wonderful stay at this charming home. Ruthie has thought of so many special touches and makes you feel right at home. Pine Tops is ready to host a gathering and has great spaces and comfortable bedrooms to make it happen. Ruthie is also very responsive to any questions or needs you may have. Fantastic Fall getaway

What a great property and location. Proximate to the Skyline Lodge, Highlands and Cashiers. Quiet wooded area and a lot of places to walk with my dog. Each house sits on a acre lot which provides lots of privacy. Wifi and cable ready house so was able to work. House exceeded our expectations. Will definitely re-book this property. Wonderfully cozy and peaceful but conveniently located to everything you need!

Ruthie's place in the Highlands was everything we hoped for and more! It has such a comfortable, cozy feel to it and so much character!!! We took full advantage of the fireplace due to the cold temps but kept looking longingly at the screened porch area that kept inviting us out...we were able to take advantage of that one afternoon at least. I will make a return visit just to spend more time in that space :) Beds were quite comfortable and the jacuzzi tub a welcome sight after a long day hiking waterfalls. And Ruthie couldn't have been more accomodating and helpful - I highly recommend a visit to Pinetops - I'll certainly be back!

House charming, but very dated kitchen and baths. Lightning very inadequate in kitchen and baths. Great fireplace which we enjoyed. Drive in area for car very difficult to maneuver. Area was convenient to Highlands and the Skyline lodge, which we enjoyed. Water situation, hopefully temporary, was inconvenient, but owner did her best to accommodate that problem.

The Perfect Escape

Ruthie's house was the perfect escape for my 95 year old mom who had been isolated in assisted living since March. It was one of the few locations with a first floor bathroom, walk in shower and no steps. Everything was as depicted and described online: peaceful, nestled amongst the trees, cozy, well equipped with easy access to Highlands and Cashiers. We stayed in for the most part enjoying the roaring fire, board games and football on TV. Access was easy and Ruthie was very easy to communicate with. We had a great time.

PineTops is a true treasure!!

This was our first time visiting The Highlands. We typically choose Blowing Rock as our go to but wanted to try somewhere we have not visited. The little town is great with lots to see and do, but the true treasure about The Highlands for us is Ms. Ruthie’s cabin! We absolutely fell in love from the moment we walked into the front door....She has made this place a home and you can feel it in every room of this beautiful place. Everything from the gorgeous fireplace, decor, amazing huge screened in porch, fully equipped kitchen, even to the bedrooms. Ms. Ruthie has left no stone unturned. We didn’t want to leave the house...It is so inviting and warm. We had to call Ms. Ruthie a few times when we first arrived and she could not have been sweeter and more helpful! While we enjoyed The Highlands, I can truthfully say it is PineTops that has stolen our hearts! We can not wait to visit again!!! Thank you Ms. Ruthie for sharing your amazing home with us!!!

Awesome house made for a nice extended weekend.

My husband, 2 dogs and I recently enjoyed a long weekend at Pinetops. The house is adorable and accommodating! We loved the back porch which has it's on TV....especially during the thunderstorms. Ruthie has everything covered....lots of extras in the kitchen that made our stay so easy. The property was very clean, nice linens (personal pet peeve of mine), comfortable furniture and beds! It is so shaded that no AC was needed but there are AC units in bathrooms that may be used. She also has fans throughout the house and ceiling fans on the porch (One is kinda wobbly and noisy but one is really enough. I only mention this so in case Ruthie isn't aware of it.) Owner was very responsive and gave us perfect instructions to the house and answered all my questions. We highly recommend Pinetops for anyone looking for a place out of the way but really close to town. It took us about 10 minutes to get right back to Main Street. You can't go wrong booking Pinetops!

Highlands stay

Ruthie was very reachable and checked in to ensure we had everything we needed. The house was well equipped (kitchen and bath) and comfortable. The screened in porch was especially nice in the evening. Parking is a little tight if you have two cars. The house is surrounded by woods which limited the amount of natural light in the house. Overall the stay was very nice and satisfied all our needs, especially the fact that it was dog friendly.

Charming cabin

This cabin was so charming, and included a lovely screened in porch with tons of seating. It was conveniently located to downtown Highlands, great hiking trails, and the neighboring Skyline Lodge, where there is a nice steakhouse. If I had any suggestion for improvement, it would be more light in the kitchen. I am used to a bright kitchen, and if you aren’t planning to cook, it’s no big deal, but for me, it was definitely an adjustment.

Charming and comfortable house with a caring owner

It's well maintained and very comfortable. And we appreciated that there are no steps to climb in getting into or out of the house. The back porch is a study in tranquility and reminds us of grand houses in the Adirondacks. The bird life around the house is wonderful. The owner was very helpful in resolving wifi issues that arose. We enjoyed our stay.

Home away from Home in Highlands

We stayed here in June 2021 and it was fantastic. The home is our new home in Highlands. It is well designed with en suite baths, great screened in porch, fire pit, nice kitchen, and decorated like a comfy cabin with loads of space, games, and books....great spot.

Beautiful mountain getaway

We had a wonderful spring break at PineTops! It felt like home - everything we needed was at the house. The screened in porch and deck are beautiful. We also enjoyed fires in the evening at the fire pit. There is a lot to do in Highlands and our two school aged sons enjoyed all the outdoor activities. We hope to be back again!

Cozy cottage

We loved our stay at this home. A very cozy, cottage feel and plenty of room for our family of 5, plus dog. The house was well stocked, in a great location, and the owner was beyond accommodating! We highly recommend this property in both Winter and Summer, (great fireplace and beautiful porches)!

I live permanently in Columbus, GA and love the Highlands area and my adorable cabin that I call PineTops. I am an avid gardener and have planted the garden at my cabin complete with stone walls and raised beds. There is even a children's garden. I am active while in Highlands, playing tennis, golf, bridge as well as my gardening activities.

Why they chose this property

This property is only four miles from the mountain village of Highlands, NC and offers 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and all of the comforts of home. I have redone the cabin by painting it inside and out, adding a large screened-in-porch, a 3rd bathroom, and creating a garden. As well as being close to downtown, it is also convenient to the adjacent village of Cashiers, NC. I added a large fire pit area in 2019 with built-in benches perfect for picnics and ghost stories. I also have enjoyed the amenities of the newly restored and renovated Skyline Lodge - a fabulous 5-star facility that is just a short walk from my cabin. Perfect for a nightly cocktail or a delicious dinner at the Oaks Steakhouse. Beautiful views.

What makes this property unique

We mostly enjoy the charm of our cabin. It is big enough to afford enough room for friends and family and a GREAT home for entertaining without sacrificing the small cabin feel of this 'tree house' in a quiet wooded setting. The screened-in-porch is a wonderful addition - with separate seating and dining areas. It is easily accessible with no entrance steps to climb, plenty of convenient parking at the door, and the private master bedroom and bath are the only rooms upstairs. The bedrooms are all custom decorated to include lovely bedding and well-appointed adjoining bathrooms. There are plenty of walking and hiking areas right outside of the cabin door, no busy highway noise, and a great fireplace to warm up a chilly mountain evening. Well-stocked with plenty of kitchen supplies and games and puzzles.
