Charming and artistic
My husband and I traveled to DC with 4 teens and stayed at this house. The house was in an older neighborhood that seemed to be going through a revitalization process. There were many people out walking their dogs and talking with each other, which brings a good sense of community. We are from a rural area but have also lived in large cities so it only took a short time to get ourselves settled. The house must be owned by an artist because everywhere we looked there was some piece of art, a quirky and fun pop of color, or just something unexpected and cool, without anything being formal or too fussy. The beds were comfortable enough and the kitchen had all the necessities for our large family. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the house overall because we were sightseeing with our foreign exchange student as much as possible. The house was conveniently located for the places we wanted to see.

More shabby than shabby chic
Pros about the property: Thorough communication with the host, neighborhood was good with great walkable restaurants, and we had plenty of living space and bedrooms to spread out it in the home. I also love eclectic decor and liked the exposed brick and plaster. Negatives about the property: It felt like staying in an old college house, where the landlord did a sloppy job with a renovation. The house is going for shabby chic and instead it feels shabby because they didn’t finish off simple things like drywall, removing old nails, and completing a decent paint job. The house has potential to be amazing - but work is needed to get it there.

Large old home
We loved the vibe of the open concept main floor and the neighbourhood was quite eclectic. The house was close to shopping, restaurants and a short Uber ride to the Capitol area. The house was large enough for 3 couples and we enjoyed the ability to make our own meals. Unfortunately, we visited during a heat wave and the central air conditioning in the house does not extend to the second floor. There is a window unit in one bedroom upstairs but the other two rooms only had fans. Because the air outside was stifling, opening the windows didn't help either. And, the neighbourhood was noisy enough that having a window open at night was disruptive. The beautiful upper deck couldn't be used as it was like a sauna out there. The second night we were there, the central air conditioning broke down. The property manger did not have it fixed before we left so we were 3 nights and 2 1/2 days without a/c in the house except for one bedroom upstairs. We even tried troubleshooting the problem ourselves including a trip to Home Depot to replace fuses. The management company did provide us with a small rebate but it took 17 days of repeatedly inquiring for that to happen.

Not as expected
The property needs work before renting again. Lights cord ran from ceiling to extension cord on table looked horrible and unsafe. Multiple other obvious electrical issues. Smell of mold. Spiders everywhere, very visible rodent traps. Soiled rugs, hair in beds, random change laying around. No air upstairs, other than small plug in fans. Bad paint job, worn down steps, horrible flooring job, crowded furniture, unsafe sitting area outside, damaged walls, damaged sheet rock. A complete mess.

Cool house, great location for us. Very comfortable.
Hosts are fantastic. Loved that the check out is so easy. While we do clean up after ourselves, there was not a big checklist. The hosts are more focused on their guests having a wonderful stay than specific rules on what to do with linens and dishes. No stress departure! We had a great weekend.

Great DC hideaway!
Location and parking weren't bad. We drove and got a VPP and didn't have any issues parking. It was so nice to have so much room rather than a hotel for the kids to come take a breather at. I really appreciated the easy and quick communication with the property manager and check-in and check-out were literally effortless. Would definitely book again.
