Beautiful stay in a rural idyll

The Stables is a fabulous play to stay, nestled in the heart of the Chilterns, with Red Kites circling in the valley. Well equipped and comfortable, it is a great base to walk from and a short drive to Henley/Wallingford with great pubs nearby too.

Superb Cottage and location

The cottage was just perfect for a do nothing weekend. We have an elderly dog who loved the spacious garden and meadow. The cottage was just right and the hearth was a welcome addition to be lit in the evening. Location and local pubs and places to eat were excellent. Thank you so much Jenny, we’ll be back!

Superb stay at The Old Stables

Our whole interaction with the owners of The Old Stables was superb - from booking, to communication, to arrival and the accomodation itself. We were made very welcome and the cottage was beautiful. We would definitely rebook for next year.

Cosy cottage in beautiful countryside

Spotlessly clean and very cosy and warm, a huge log burner and fantastically comfy beds. The welcome was warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. We really felt like guests. Highly recommend.

Cottage Country Charmer

I couldn't be happier with this property. The garden was lovely, the house charming and the owners so easy to work with. We enjoyed how close the property was to some quintessential English villages.

Enjoyed our stay.

Charming cottage, beautifully decorated and well equipped. Excellent hosts. We especially appreciated arriving to cake and fresh flowers and the large helpful folder with local maps, guides etc. Older/infirm guests or young children might find the "paddles" type stairs difficult but the ground floor stable bedroom with ensuite is lovely.

Short break with the family

We had an amazing time at this beautiful cottage. Perfect surroundings for lovely walks with the dog and she was more than happy in cottage on her first trip away. Hosts were brilliant and very helpful. Local areas are lovely too. Teenage daughters loved their attic room with plenty of space and our stable room was gorgeous. All in all a great time had by all and would recommend to all. Hoping to go again

Sensational!

Just idyllic - a lovingly converted stable block with all creature comforts in a magnificent setting with kind and generous hosts. What more could you ask? Utterly peaceful, lots of wildlife, extremely entertaining ducks and chickens and gorgeous Toby the dog. We had such a good time, thank you Jenny and Robert. Oh, and fantastic beds!

An amazing new experience

Hosts Jenny and Robert were hospitable, friendly and helpful - respecting privacy but always happy to answer questions and make suggestions about the area. The Stables were clean, comfortable and secure. There was nothing we needed that was not provided. This is a wonderful base from which to explore Oxford, Bath, Henley, Reading and surrounding villages with east access to London. The local area is fascinating with great walking trails and a very cosy local pub - with great food! We have recommended The Old Stables to a number of our friends since returning home.

Peaceful and scenic

Jenny was v helpful with good communication. The cottage is extremely well organised with everything you would need for a self catering break. The upstairs bedroom was very comfortable and spacious although the stairs were not the easiest to negotiate. The one downside is that the central heating is controlled from the main house and we did feel a little uncomfortable asking for it to be switched on in the evening.
