The house is charming but it’s in need of a good deep clean. Kitchen was sticky on drawers and fixtures. Ice maker has frozen food in the ice. Bedrooms need a good cleaning…blinds are covered in dust and dirt and baseboards are dusty. Along these lines, the house didn’t feel ready for renters. Trash was not emptied in all areas specifically laundry. Wet clothes were in the washing machine and the dish washer was not emptied or run. The kitchen sink had coffee grinds in it. Clothes and belongings were left sitting in the closets. The towels were old and had stains on them, and unfortunately, there were no hand towels or wash clothes. Lastly, if the garage isn’t usable don’t have pics on the site.
Probably the worst is the way the owner has treated us. On our second evening of our stay, all of the plumbing on the main floor started overflowing. This included tubs, toilets and sinks. There was significant gurgling coming from the basement area that could be heard from all plumbing fixtures. Water began coming from these plumbing features and spilling over to the floors. Despite turning off the main water, this continued to happen. The plumbing would overflow and then recede. We used towels to contain the water and worked to protect the home while attempting to contact owner. We encouraged owner to come over to the property since he was local so he could witness everything for himself. Turning off septic valve stopped it finally. We stayed and helped him clean things up using what little supplies were available. Without running water we discussed that we wouldn’t be able to stay in the home. We suggested we get a hotel for our family to which he said he thought that made sense. The following morning we reached out to him to check in and confirm that he would refund our money for the second night. He then suggested it was our fault because our family of 5 used most of one roll of toilet paper in over 24 hrs and suggested this was the cause. Seriously! TP was also used for blowing noses and cleaning up the mess, too. I also suggested that if the sewer/septic line is that delicate, he shouldn’t be renting the home. Note, No instructions (except wifi) were left on home, nothing about sensitive plumbing. The owner is not responding to our requests for a refund but rather tried to imply blame. Even worse is while trying to save his home, shot guns and ammunition were discovered in the basement unlocked. Very concerning especially since we had kids.
