The property was mis represented. Throughout the listing it said the house had air conditioning. In one remote link it then said only in bed rooms. When we arrived even not even all the bedrooms had working air conditioning. On top of that one shower drain had so much hair laying on top of it that it wouldn’t drain. The dishes and glasses were dusty and the laundry room under the house was in complete disarray. It was so bad we left and had to find another house and we were not extended the courtesy of a refund. Needless to say we do not recommend the property or VRBO.
House was right on the beach. Beach was never crowded, most days it was just our family on the beach. Location of the house couldn’t be any better. House needs a good deep cleaning and some updating. No washer and dryer. You have to walk across the street to use the public washing machine and dryer. Cost is $7 per load to wash and $7 per load to dry. The two bedrooms downstairs had air conditioning but the common area and kitchen were not air conditioned. Needless to say it was hot. Upstairs was air conditioned with two bedrooms and a bathroom. I would hope/expect for the amount of money we paid for a two week stay in a house right on a beautiful beach, it would be clean, updated, air conditioned and access to a washer/dryer. If it weren’t for the views from this house our rating would be a 2/3-star. I would love to own this house and do some updating to it
This home is in the perfect location. It’s located right in the settlement, across from convenient laundry location, and directly on the beach. We could not have asked for a better place for our week stay. Also, John and Caroline were excellent to work with, helpful in answering our questions and fast to respond.
Hopetown has made an inspiring comeback from Dorian. We loved the island's vibe. Windward House is perfectly located, across the street from small laundry facilities and bike rental, 1 min walk to Post Office dock (ferries and harbor shuttle), 3 min walk to Cpt Jack's, and near the bells of the old church. The New Year's fireworks were an amazing surprise, and our house was a 1 minute walk from it all. We had winds from the west, so the LR doors were usually wide open to the best stretch of beach on the island. Interaction with happy locals working hard to come back from Dorian was fun and rewarding. A VRBO in Hopetown is not an all inclusive resort experience - it felt much more authentic. We found everything we needed, loved the quiche place by On da Beach, biking, boating, and snorkeling Sandy Cay (and the reef off Windward's beach)... Jack's liquor store had Ron Zecappa rum... life was very, very good there for a week.
What an amazing house! Windward is located on the town beach - fantastic swimming, snorkelling and beach walking right out the front door. Turn the other way and you are in town for a little shopping or dinner at Cap’n Jacks. Inside is beautiful and cozy with fun spaces: decks, window nooks, swings. The host and property manager are super responsive although you shouldn’t need much in this perfect spot. Would absolutely return!
We loved our week at the Windward house, the ocean view out of the back of the house is magnificent. We boated over and it is not a far walk from the post office dock. My biggest worry was getting our gear and luggage to the house but the property manager helped us with that with their car. One thing we would have liked to see different is newer linens, a lot of the towels/sheets had marks and stains on them, you could just tell they are older. The no AC in the common areas is fine except for the middle of the day, luckily we were out of the house most days on the boat, but if you were to stay in the house, it will get hot with the sun coming through all of the glass windows as they have no curtains or shades. The weather was great while we were there, but there never seemed to be the perfect breeze to have all the windows open, so we just tried to preserve the AC we did have. The property manager was excellent and very responsive, any problems we had were taken care of in a timely manner. I would stay here again
This beachfront property is also steps away from the heart of a small, but picturesque and charming community in Hopetown. When I say beachfront, I mean that the waves at high tide lap up about 75 feet off the front of the big porch on the Atlantic side. On mild, sunny days we opened up the doors and had the feel of an Italian villa on the beach. The morning sunrise was beautiful.
Bedrooms are huge, each with their own private balcony overlooking the harbour or the ocean. The kitchen is a little small and missing some of the basics (no kettle when we were there), but everything worked and we had no problems cooking meals. A gas BBQ would be a welcome addition to the property. Water from the cistern is not filtered.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful place, Jon.
Sincerely,
Andy Moore and Family
