Great place! Loved the extra snacks and drinks they had available for us, very welcoming and everything we needed. Kitchen was well stocked with plates, pots and pans etc. Beds were comfy, hot tub was relaxing, neighborhood was quiet. Enjoyed our time!
Beautiful skies and surroundings for looking up at the stars. Super cute home with lots of amenities, very nostalgic. Great way to unwind. Responsive hosts!
It was an amazing stay the owners were great. They even stopped by and visited for a little while. We really appreciated the house and all the amenities that were available.
We had an amazing two days in your home and I am so thankful for your generosity! The boys had an amazing time in the game rooms and spent lots of time out exploring, even with all the rain! Evryrhing was perfect and we cant wait to come back!!!!
The house is well located, old but cozy, details for the children, the only thing I didn't like is that the owner came knocking abruptly using as a pretext that one of the 2 locks to enter the house marked "low battery" which I didn't have to change it at that moment, since once the battery is given the notice you have even more days to change it, I used that pretext to arrive and examine who was in the house walking around the floor below "while I was changing a battery" now I even had doubts if there were cameras inside the house too, it is very uncomfortable that you rent a house for 2 nights and one of them you have the owner arriving early for my schedules (I was going to rest not to receive unwanted visitors), out of That's why the house is very nice and I liked the location.
We had a wonderful time at this property! Will be renting one of the other properties from this owner this winter! Loved the access to the forrest trails and the river running through it! Made great memories there and look forward to making more! Thanks again!
Everything was fine , he met with family members at the property for a short visit before heading to wedding, everyone committed on the home like feeling of the house.
My wife and i stayed here for our anniversary. We absolutely loved the strange layout of the home, the hot tub, and the scenery. The owners were very friendly and they even left supplies for smores and other snacks and wine for us. The thoughtfulness from the owners really made this stay one of our favorites. We really didn't have any complaints aside from the small TV, but that is such a minor flaw. We were there to relax without the noise from the city, and we got exactly that. We never stay at the same VRBO more than once, but we would definitely rent from these owners again!
We have rented from these owners before, so when they put up this listing, we jumped on it. The house has a quirky layout which adds to its character. Perfect ace to escape the heat and relax. Hot tub was great. My only concern, which we mentioned to them. Is they need better lighting outside. Ither than that, we look forward to going back
The owners were amazing and super helpful. They messaged is several times during our stay to see if we needed anything, which I've never had with any other vacation rental I've stayed in. The only thing I'll mention is that if there's a chance it'll rain or snow, make sure to bring proper equipment, and be aware that there is a creek you have to cross, so if there's rain you will need a higher clearance vehicle to cross it. We were worried we might get stuck with our csuvs, but it ended up being just fine by the time we left. The owners also said there is another way out of the neighborhood, it's just a dirt road and very hilly. Overall it was a lovely vacation!
We had a fun weekend with the grandkids at this home in the woods. Between the pool table, hot tub, and nearby creek, we had lots to keep busy with. Then the owners brought over cornhole which added even more to the fun. The kids did not want to go home. Verla was very responsive. When we couldn't figure out the hot tub, she was there within 20 minutes to help us. Little sweet touches were a bottle of wine, a bowl with microwave popcorn, makings for s'mores, a Keurig with coffee pods, and even pancake mix and syrup! The big bed downstairs was so comfortable. I tried to peek to see what kind of mattress it was. The kitchen floor plan was a big quirky, but as an older home that had been added on to, it just added to the fun charm. Verla even connected us with a neighbor kid who invited our kids over to jump on the trampoline. Before we left the kids were already talking about the "next time we come here."
My husband and I spent our anniversary here and w we loved it! We brought the dogs and they loved the totally fenced yard with lots of room to roam and explore. This house is so close to some of our favorite hiking trails and swimming holes.
The house itself was fun with a quirky layout. We could get to the play room, pool table, and hot tub either via the sprial staircase inside or the more gradual steps leading from the lower patio outside to the upper deck. We loved star gazing from the hot tub as well as the front porch swing at night.
The house is on a hill and there are several steps from the parking area to the front door. Inside we found the owners had left some nice suprizes for us such as ingredients for smores, wine (we don't drink but it was the thought that counts!), popcorn, fluffy bathrobes, etc. Everything we needed was provided so all we had to bring was our clothing and a few groceries.
The owner is so kind. One day our daughter and two grandchildren drove up from the valley to go hiking and swimming with us. The owner stopped by to let the kids pet her pigmy goats that wer we re on leashes. So fun!

Not what we expected
I unfortunately didn’t follow up with current reviews. The reviews when we booked were favorable, not so with the more recent reviews. The back patio was filthy from the ground to the furniture. I never found the hairdryer and toaster didn’t work. There was left over food crumbs in the toaster oven. The living room furniture was not comfortable at all. We had to move the rocking chairs so we could sit comfortably. Pretty much everything previous guest said. I didn’t even go upstairs to check as I don’t do spiral strairs. Have bad back and weak legs. We’ve stayed at better. A bit disappointing so we left a day early.

Not the best for dogs
Overall we had an ok stay. We enjoyed the location and the hot tub. Most of the house was clean enough. The East Verde nearby was nice.
The owner stopped by unannounced shortly after check in, so I wouldn’t exactly say check in was “contact free.”
We have a 37 pound mixed breed dog who was not happy. The “fenced dog run” was small and consisted of fake grass and pavers. In our first hour at the house he found a way out of the dog run. There is one area of it that is not fenced as advertised, but consists of a low brick wall next to a shrub/tree. He easily made his way into the rest of the yard which is not fully fenced and is also full of stickers and foxtails, which we were frequently picking out of his fur. We had to purchase garden fencing materials and bailing wire to temporarily enclose the yard so that we could remain at the house.
The sheets and pillow cases on one bed had what appeared to be pet fur.
I contacted the owner to let her know about the fence issues and the sheets and ask where clean sheets were. The 2nd set of sheets also had what appeared to be fur and human hair. No offer was made to rectify the fencing issue. The owner insisted sheets are washed between renters. Maybe they need a better washer.
The pool table slopes on all edges, making it great for little kids as it’s easy to shoot a ball into a pocket, not so great for skilled players.
The house was not very clean, lots of dirt, spider webs, sticky counters, and hair in drains of both baths upon arrival. Several safety issues…front steps not uniform in size and multiple people in our party tripped, several parts of railing had no top so open metal, none of the outside solar light on front steps nor second floor deck worked, nor did the outside wired light on that deck. So basically no lights on back deck where jacuzzi was located. Then our 3 year old granddaughter found a baby bottle with congealed nipple and liquid milk or formula inside and a pacifier under the bed. Thank the good Lord she brought it to us instead of putting it in her mouth. When I checked under beds for anything else dangerous it was so dirty but luckily no other real danger. Then all the bedroom closets were locked or used for other purposes and there was no place for luggage except floor which made more tripping hazards. We had one frying pan for 5 people, plenty of saucepans and dishes, but most cupboards were empty. Kitchen layout was not convenient, refrigerator around the corner and at least 20 feet from stove so cooking was awkward. Also, had to deal with a clogged toilet that only two people had been using. We couldn’t plunge it. Thought it was a low flow until backup property manager finally had to leave and come back with a snake. He worked hard for about an hour and finally got through whatever was clogging it. Couldn’t believe the difference in how it flushed. We have stayed in this community in another VRBO before with zero issues. We loved the views, and the creek, the peacefulness, and the location. We would never stay in this home again, however, nor one by this host. They were on vacation and a bit rude when we had to contact them about toilet. We have stayed in so very many VRBO’s over the years and probably 10 in the Payton area. By far this was our least favourite and we can not understand how you could rate them a premier host.
Such a smooth rental experience and the property is so family friendly. We had a great time and there are great amenities, but it's so affordable! We are so grateful!
Nice house in an isolated neighborhood along the East Verde River. House had everything we needed and it was comfortable. Parking can be tight and access up the spiral stairs were the only two concerns but not deal breakers.

My husband and I have been married over 52 years, proud parents to 2 children that have blessed us with 4 grandchildren. We love to travel and purchased a home in this lovely area in 2004. Our grandchildren call it our camper house. In 2014 we purchased the home next to our 'camper House'. we currently rent 3 homes all next to each other and we live at the end of the street. We have stayed in Vacation Rentals and have tried to include the things we have liked most into this vacation rental. If not let us know what we can improve on.
Why they chose this property
We totally have fallen in love with this area so when we had the opportunity to purchase 3 homes we decided to make them into vacation rentals. We live down the street from the rentals. From sitting on the swing on the front deck and enjoying the views to relaxing in the jacuzzi this home is in a lovely area.
