About this property

Romantic Wine Country Cottage in Kenwood - Walk to 15 Wineries

Welcome!
The Ladder House is an elegant wine country get-away located in the lovely village of Kenwood. In the midst of Sonoma Valley wine country, you are at the center of it all. A short drive from San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area, there are more than fifteen vineyards / tasting rooms within walking distance (~ 1 mile) of our little cottage and another twenty plus wineries within biking distance (~3-5 miles). If you are coming for the wine, you have picked the right location. Start by enjoying a complimentary bottle of wine from one of the local area's wineries the day you arrive. You're likely to want to visit some of the local tasting rooms all nearby. See the activities page on our website for more on the local wineries and other activities. You can find the link to our site just above the Owners Profile below.

Planned Winery Tours
We provide our customers with details of local wineries by area with suggestions based on your favorite varietals along with who to ask for at each winery. Makes for a great pre-planned tour should you not want to have to do the work yourself. Ask us about it when booking the Ladder House.

An Adventure
Have more than just wine on your mind? Sonoma Valley is alive with activities and places to go. Visit nearby Morton’s Warm Springs for a swim and picnic by the creek, spend the day out on the coast and have dinner with a view of the ocean, take a bike ride and enjoy the picturesque local scenery or go for a hike in nearby Jack London park or Sugarloaf Ridge park. Sugarloaf is also home to the Robert Ferguson Observatory where you can spend an evening star gazing. Hike Mount Baldwin, enjoy the majestic views of Northern California and spy Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day. Sonoma Square is just a 15 minute drive and you can usually find a major event going on each weekend. We have put together a book of activities which you can enjoy while staying at our peaceful cottage with each activity rated by amount of time required. From a two hour jaunt to day long adventures, we hope you will find several activities to enjoy.

Dining
There are several great restaurants in Kenwood, all providing a great meal and ambiance. Slightly farther away in Glen Ellen, a 5 min drive, are additional establishments offering a great variety of offerings, all top-shelf. Or venture a little farther south to Sonoma or north to Santa Rosa for yet more options. For more dining details, see our website activities page.

Fantastic location, very comfortable, well stocked and exactly as described.
The home was great and we loved being so close to the fabulous laid-back Sonoma vineyards, tasting rooms and restaurants. The house had everything we needed for a great short vacation. The hot tub was a nice way to end the day and relax in our private retreat. Thanks for all of the great recommendations and tips for wineries and restaurants!

Great birthday weekend to see Chris Botti in concert
Fantastic weekend. Property was wonderful and exactly as shown in the pictures. Close to more wineries than we could visit, but we did try to visit them all. Loved Mayo and VJB. Great info for places to visit and wineries, etc. from the owner. Easy drive over to Napa, Yountville and Calistoga. Loved the hot tub after a day of wine tasting and hiking. You could see so many stars at night, so clear. This weekend was a 60th birthday present from my husband and he we went to the Chris Botti concert. Absolutely great weekend. Would recommend for others to stay here.

Perfect for 4 adults
We booked this rental as we wanted proximity to both Napa Valley and Sonoma-and it was PERFECT!!!!! The rental is just as it appears in the listings (bedding has actually been upgraded since pictures were taken), and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we'd need for our stay. The hot tub was very clean and relaxing. We've never rented a home where so many "extras" are already at the home (everything from laundry essentials to coffee to little things like q-tips and nail polish remover etc)! The beds were very comfy and the rental is at the end of a street so very quiet and peaceful! Rob the owner was spot on with all of his recommendations and he was very quick to respond to any questions we had before/during/after the trip. Our deposit was refunded the day after we left, and the whole transaction was VERY SMOOTH! Rob, thanks for the rental we hope to be back again one day and hope your home is available.

Relaxing Wine getaway for couples
Our recent stay at the Cyprus Ladder House could not have been more perfect! The home was clean and very comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we could think of. We did more than just wine tastings. The nearby Sugarloaf park was perfect for an afternoon hike. I personally have trouble sleeping anywhere other than my own bed, however the beds in the home were amazing, I slept so well while we were there. Rob is so great to work with! We have stayed at other places on VRBO that the owners have communication issues, not so with Rob, the communication was amazing, I never had trouble getting ahold of Rob prior to our stay. There are several tasting rooms within walking distance of the home, we walked to a few one afternoon with no trouble, on quiet streets.

Perfect accommodations for wine/golf vacation!
We recently completed our week-long stay at the Cypress Ladder House and couldn't have been more pleased. We were 2 couples traveling without children & we were particular about having double king-sized beds. Both were extremely comfortable & the accommodation suited our schedule perfectly. The location was also idyllic for traveling to Sonoma Square as well as Napa. Having washer/dryer availability was also key for us & made our packing much more convenient since we were coming in from the East Coast. We golfed at nearby Oakmont Golf Club's West Course which had scenic views & although a bit soggy on Monday from rain the day before, the course dried out nicely by our Thursday round. Rob was readily available for inquiries and his recommendations were on point. Having the hot tub after our round to soothe those aches from our golf round REALLY helped!! We have already recommended this property to other people and would suggest you do the same!!

Perfect for 2 couples
We enjoyed our stay at the Cypress Ladder House when we visited the Sonoma area with our daughter and son in law. The house was clean, Beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were average size, and the kitchen had essentials to make a meal. We used the gas grill on a couple of evenings and it worked just fine. We played cards most evenings and didn't watch much television but just an FYI for the next renter, the house only has 1 tv in the livingroom and it doesn't have traditional cable, but it does have netflix and the like. The house is centrally located in the area which give easy access to Napa and Sonoma. We took a trip to armstrong woods which was beautiful and would recommend. We visited many wineries but one of our favorites was about 1 mile away, Kunde. Don't pass that one by! I would also purchase groceries in Santa Rosa before going to the Kenwood area. The store was expensive and limited selection. If I had any suggestions for the owner it would be to replace some bedroom pillows and potentially the livingroom couch. Otherwise, we had a very nice time in this smoke/pet free home.

Romantic Getaway
Another wonderful weekend getaway in a beautiful setting. This is our second time staying at the Cypress Ladder House. My husband and I were fortunate to have another weekend with beautiful weather. The quite peaceful neighborhoods are perfect for a walk while my husband went for a bike ride at the nearby Sugarloaf State Park where he saw waterfalls and beautiful views. Once again, we visited Mayo winery (Rob's recommendation) where we felt especially welcome by the staff. This weekend we had time to enjoy the hot tub and view the stars in the evening, which we highly suggest. We enjoyed the complimentary wine (left by Rob for our stay) on the back deck. The Ladder House is clean, well equipped with a comfortable and romantic decor. We are looking forward to scheduling our next getaway. There is so much to do in close proximity that we are hoping to stay even longer. Perfect home for one or two couples.

Great getaway for two traveling couples!
Such a wonderful experience from start to finish! Rob is so nice to work with. He responds quickly, is full of additional information for the surrounding area and is an excellent host. The property is in a lovely neighborhood with wineries, restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance. It is conveniently located for traveling to surrounding Napa, Santa Rosa, and Healdsburg. The hot tub was a great evening amenity. Very comfortable beds and everything you need! We highly recommend!

Cypress Ladder House is a home run!
Cypress Ladder House was the perfect home base for our party of four during our recent visit to wine country. The home was cozy, clean, well-equipped, and very centrally located. The deck and hot tub were wonderful after a long day. The neighborhood is safe and quiet and the Kenwood area is home to many wonderful wines (however Calistoga, Healdsburg, Sonoma or even Petaluma are just a short, scenic drive away...we even drove over to Muir Woods one morning!) . Rob was wonderful to work with and very quick to respond to all our questions. His direction and suggestions were spot-on for our interests. We can't wait go return for another stay to Sonoma Valley and Cypress Ladder House!

Comfortable and convenient!
Our party of four was so pleased with the comfortable accommodations and convenience to Kenwood ... not to mention fabulous wine tasting on all sides and an easy drive to Sonoma. The home itself met all of our expectations and being on a quiet street in a quiet neighborhood was just what we all needed. The home is well equipped and a delicious bottle of Zin waiting for us was the topping on the cake!

Excellent wine country get away!
Perfect home right in the middle of Sonoma wine country. Two couples shared the home for our wine country get away. Walking distance to numerous wineries in the area. Kenwood is a nice quiet place to get away in CA wine country. The hot tub is another reason to stay at this home! Everything with the home is well maintained and Rob is more than happy to help with any questions about the area. We used several of his recommendations for wineries and restaurants. Already told him we're looking forward to staying here again the next time we make it to wine country!

Cypress Ladder House in Kenwood
I am a new VRBO user. I was not familiar will the process at all. After talking with the owner and reading others reviews I felt safe and confident everything was going to happen as explained. All the while waiting for some unforeseen problem to rear its head and make the whole thing go sideways. I am thrilled to say that never happened. Rob has a great little property and everything went smooth and we can't wait to go back. Our wine tasting weekend was from Thursday to Sunday, not a lot of time for the area. We were two couples on our first ever Sonoma trip. The wineries are beautiful, and close to the house. Some Mayo, VJB, and others are literally walking distance, we never did but you really could. The house has everything one would need, we ate at the table, ample dishes and utensils for dinner with 4+ people, had a great bottle of wine provided by the owner, we did laundry, and used the hot tub. The hot tub was a feature I really didn't think we would even use. I have one at home and hardly use it. In wine country things close early and we were on Central time anyway, the hot tub was a really nice way to end the day. The house is of older construction, smaller rooms, smaller bathrooms, but enough for 2 couples and the remodels almost make you forget its age. The house was clean and nicely landscaped. The yard was private and the road has minimal traffic. The beds are as everyone else reviewed, just heavenly. The only thing I would change about our trip is to have added more days at this location. There is too much to do. Oh, I almost forgot, Cafe Citti is a must for dinner. Thanks Rob, and I hope the house is available on our next trip to Sonoma.

Cypress Ladder House
Two couples shared this quaint home. We found it to be very clean and in a nice and quiet neighborhood. Loved the wine Rob left as a 'welcome' gift. Our interest was visiting wineries in the Russian River Valley along with wineries in Sonoma and Napa Valleys. Traveling to these areas was easy. The house is in the most convenient place between them all. We cooked all our dinners on the grill and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Thank you Rob for your winery suggestions. We enjoyed VJB the best.

Fantastic Location and Super Comfy Home
We spent a week at Cypress Ladder house and loved every minute of it. The house is the perfect location for exploring Sonoma and Napa. We hiked Sugarloaf State Park several times during our stay and it was super close and enjoyable. We loved Kunde winery too! During the week we were in Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Calistoga, St. Helena, Napa, Sonoma - all over and everything was a very manageable distance drive away. I would highly recommend Cypress Ladder house for an enjoyable and relaxing time in wine country! Rob was great and super easy to work with. He gave tons of suggestions for our stay and was super helpful.

Great House and Great Location!!
Rob was responsive through the entire booking process and was very easy to work with. We shared the house with another couple and really enjoyed it. Hot tub on the back deck was nice to enjoy at night. Rob's suggestions on wineries and restaurants in the area came in handy. If returning to the area in the future, we will definitely come back to the house if it is available. Thanks again Rob!

Perfect place!
We visited wine country with another couple and the home was perfect! So much more quaint and comfortable. Great location that allowed us to visit Sonoma wineries for a couple of days, and then Napa wineries. Great wine tastings within walking distance too! We took advantage of wine on the deck at the end of the day. While too tired to go far, we ordered from Cafe Citti (recommended by Rob) and brought it home. Wonderful food! We will definitely be back, and highly recommend to others.

Nice and quiet Cottage in a great area!
I loved staying here! It is a location of wine country that I have not been. The area is very quiet and you can walk to wineries. The house was clean and quaint. Hot tub on the deck was a nice touch after a long day of wineries. I loved the wine that Rob gave us. It was nice to feel welcomed. I definitely recommend this place.

Lovely Sonoma Cottage with Perfect Location!
Just back from a few days in Sonoma, a trip that was special because I took my parents along to show them some of CA wine country. So happy we found this place! Rob was wonderful to work with and even though I have been to Sonoma many times, he gave us great ideas and we ended up at great wineries that were new to me. The house is ideal - beds more comfortable than my own at home and I am sorely missing the hot tub where we had morning coffee every day. The house is so well kept and we had everything we need to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. My mother has some limited mobility and had no problems at all getting around the house or using the bathrooms. No network TV was a surprise to my father but I introduced him to the wonders of Netflix and all was good. Proximity to everything in Sonoma was ideal too as well as to the short cut over the mountain to Napa. Next trip to Sonoma, I will most definitely be reaching back out to Rob for another stay and keeping fingers crossed the house is available!

Getaway for two couples
We arrived from Sacramento mid morning and made our way to Sonoma and then to this charming home in Kenwood. Was a lovely home with great outdoor space. We loved seeing the flowers an fresh herbs. The hot tub was nice to relax after a long day of traveling. We were able to walk a few blocks to eat dinner in kenwood, along with a few tastings throughout the weekend. Kitchen was set up and had everything we needs to prepare dinner on the grill one evening. We would definitely stay here on a return trip to the Sonoma area. Rob was great at communicating before our trip, and I had his number if any problems arose (which we had none). Great 3 night stay in kenwood!

Fabulous Wine Country Vacation SPot
We were two couples enjoying our first trip to the Sonoma/Napa wine regions. We loved staying here as our home base. It was a pleasure to arrive after a day of airports/car rentals and travel to have a bottle of wine awaiting us. The Mayo Old Vine Zin was delicious. The home was immaculate and well stocked with everything we needed (toiletries, kitchen items, basic pantry items, towels and bedding). The beds were very comfortable. The two bathrooms worked out well for us. We took the one off the kitchen area and it was fine. The hot tub was immaculately clean. We used it every night as a way to relax and end our day's adventures. The house was private and quiet for us. The local wineries were great...every suggestion of Rob's was fabulous! We especially enjoyed the Mayo Food Pairing and Cafe Citti. EnGarde winery was a fun time as our visit coincided with the wine makers and we got special attention. I liked being in the Sonoma area as it was more intimate and relaxing, but it was still very easy to visit and explore the Napa valley area. Rob was great to answer any questions we had during our stay promptly. The instructions for exiting the property were clearly stated and simple. My security deposit was quickly refunded, in full. We look forward to returning to explore more of this area and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to any and all friends visiting here, too!!

Wonderful stay for our wine country vacation!
Two couples stayed here for our 4 day wine country vacation celebrating special anniversaries. The home was perfect for the two couples, plenty of room, immaculate and had everything that you would need. The guys enjoyed the hot tub everyday and the grounds were immaculate. As described, the beds were beyond comfortable - wish I could have taken them with me. Rob was very responsive from our first contact through our stay. He gave us so much wonderful information about the area and pointed us to some excellent wineries/wines. We would definitely use this property again when visiting the area.

Amazing wine country stay with AWESOME location!
My wife and I stayed here for a 3 day getaway to Sonoma and Napa Valley. The location was incredible, and also the features of the house were amazing. The hardwood floors, outdoor deck and grill, and the hot-tub were all fantastic! The hot-tub is easily a 4 person comfortable tub to relax in after a day of touring wine country, and the kitchen was stocked with plenty of wine glasses, dishes, and cooking utensils. This is an incredibly nice home and within walking distance to so many great wineries. The short drive to Napa and wineries in Sonoma make this is a GREAT choice for seeing both wine regions. As far as space goes, there is definitely plenty of room in this house for 4 adults and the grounds are immaculate. We would definitely like to rent this home again for another 3 night stay or longer in the future!

LOVELY HOME, GREAT LOCATION!
We were looking for something that could accommodate 4 adults, close to my mom in the Kenwood area, and were very fortunate to discover the Cypress Ladder House. I have stayed at a few similar vacation rentals in the area and the Ladder House is by far one of the nicest and most conveniently located. We loved the fact that we could literally walk to a few popular restaurants and wineries in Kenwood. The accommodations were great — loved the fact that both bedrooms had king beds. This is unusual in most 2-bedroom rentals. Plus the outdoor deck — complete with a hot tub! — and gardens provided the perfect setting for a relaxing adult getaway! Thank you Rob for so patiently answering our questions and providing an incredible list of recommendations for wineries to explore — many I look forward to trying. The bottle of zin you left for us was a treat! A great start to a great week :)

Fantastic Week in Kenwood
This place was absolutely perfect for a week stay! We were skeptical about staying in Kenwood, but we are happy we did. We were in a perfect location to be right in the middle of everything, local wineries, short trip to Napa and the coast. The house was great! My boyfriend and I and another couple rented the house for the week and we had MORE than enough space. The outdoor area is where we spent the majority of our time - it's a gorgeous space! Very well maintained back yard, deck and the hot tub was perfect to relax in. Rob was an amazing host! We had a nice bottle of Mayo wine waiting for us upon arrival and he gave us great insider info (including who to ask for at each winery) to help plan our trip! Also loved trying Rob's own Cuvee at Mayo. You have to hear the story behind them naming a wine after him. Too fun. Thank you again for opening your home to us! We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and we will be back soon!

We work and live in San Jose currently, though would love to retire some day in the Kenwood area. We hope you enjoy your stay at our vacation get away property in Kenwood. We put a lot of work and care into it.

Why they chose this property

Love the area, the wineries, the people and just had to get a place in the area. Walking distance to 15 + wineries including Mayo, VJB, Kenwood, Kunde and many others. Can't beat it for the wine or the people.

What makes this property unique

The Ladder House is situated on a large 1/3 acre lot at the end of a dead-end street providing a very private experience. The grounds are manicured similarly to some of the local wineries and our guests will enjoy spending time on our back deck or in the full size 6-person hot tub with lie down chair. The house is in a great location for visiting some of the best wineries Sonoma or Napa has to offer. Sometimes we just walk to the nearby tasting rooms and then we don't have to worry about driving after. Sometimes we ride our bikes to the wineries and sometimes we ride to one of the local state parks, Sugarloaf Ridge and Jack London Park. Nearby Morton's Springs is a great location for swimming or picnics, etc. Great dining in Kenwood and Glen Ellen and you can always visit Sonoma Plaza which is about a 15 min drive from the cottage. A nice 45 min drive to the coast for dinner or just to get out on the beach is a great adventure as well. And, of course, if you run out of wineries or things in Sonoma, you can go over the hill to Napa side to give them a try. Only a 40 min drive. By the way, while staying at the Cypress Ladder House, you will be able to get discounts for some of the local wineries, etc. See our discount coupons for Mayo Reserve Room while staying at the cottage.
