About this property

Scenic Getaway with Private Indoor Pool/Hot Tub on the GAP trail

Escape to Mount Savage Farm in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland. Relax and appreciate the serenity of an 80 acre farm overlooking the small town of Mount Savage, MD.

The farm is a destination in itself with an indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, gas fireplace, outdoor brick patio with grill and fire pit, and plenty of space to wander, find solitude, and watch the wildlife. Behind the house and up past the pond, is direct access to the Greater Alleghany Passage (GAP) hike and bike trail. Situated at mile marker 11 of the 150 mile trail, there is ample opportunity to hike, bike and enjoy the scenic views on one of the premier trails of the east coast. Check out the opportunities at https://gaptrail.org

The spacious historic brick home was built in the 1820s and has a classic feel. There are 5 bedrooms including one family style room with a queen and trundle bed, 3 full baths, a family room and a formal living room with a piano, a well-appointed kitchen, a dining room that seats 12, and an office/sunroom on the second floor with spectacular views. This is a brand new listing and we are currently updating and rearranging, making it more usable and comfortable for our guests. The layout of the house will stay the same so the current pictures give you an excellent overview.

For railroad enthusiasts, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad shares the GAP trail and passes through the property on its way from Cumberland, MD to Frostburg. Be sure to take a ride on the railroad and look for Mount Savage Farm as you pass by! For more adventure, do some railbiking - pedaling along the steel railroad tracks with your friends and family.

For those who like to venture, there is much to see and do within an hour driving distance of the farm. This mountainous region of western Maryland and Pennsylvania is home to ten state parks with expansive views, hiking trails, white water rafting and lakes for boating and fishing. Wisp and Seven Springs Resorts offer skiing in the winter and outdoor adventures such as zip lining and mountain coasters in the summer. Rocky Gap Casino is a short drive down the highway.

The Flight 93 Memorial is located 37 miles away across the Pennsylvania state line. Also in Pennsylvania, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwaters, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just over an hour’s drive.

For dining and shopping, the quaint town of Frostburg is less than ten minutes away and has several excellent restaurants and breweries. It is home to Frostburg State University, making this an ideal get away for families coming to visit. A little further down the road is historic Cumberland, MD. This is where the GAP Trail begins and the 184 mile C&O Canal towpath trail from Washington D.C. ends.

For everyone's security, we have three cameras. One is located on the side porch overlooking the driveway, one is located looking out the back of the house and one is in the pool area.

Perfect holiday weekend

Our group (consisting of all adults, mostly couples) stayed for the weekend of Valentine's Day, and the attention to detail was impeccable. It was a completely effortless check in and everything was clearly labeled and easy to find/use. Our whole group was thrilled with the spacious interior, and we all used the heated indoor pool and hot tub despite the cold and snowy weather this weekend. Pat was extremely friendly easy to communicate with and we plan to come back to this house again soon!

Great place for a family

This was a great place for our family to be together for Thanksgiving. Beautiful house, spacious and clean, with everything we needed to make our meals. Gracious hosts. My grandchildren loved being able to swim, even with outside temperatures in the 20s.

Highly Recommend

I found this property when searching for places in Cumberland, MD. It was large enough for my entire family of 11-12 people with plenty of property activities and amenities. The pictures are accurate, but you must see the property in person to really appreciate it. The views are stunning. The property has everything you could need and then some. The owners even went the extra touch to leave us a note and freshly baked brownies and a bottle of champagne to celebrate my parent's wedding anniversary. We also got to meet the owners on our last day before checking out. They stopped by to say hello. My family really enjoyed staying here. The ages ranged from 20 to 83 years of age. There was plenty of room to be together and also separate rooms if you needed some quiet time away from others. My family loves playing corn hole and they even had that to use. Pat and Dan really have a special place. It is very private, but also located right in the middle of Cumberland and Frostburg with plenty to see and do. I highly recommend staying here. We may even stay again as a family.

Family weekend

We had a great time celebrating my dad’s birthday at this house. Plenty of room for 3 generations of family. Kids loved the pool. Everything was well stocked for entertaining kids from basketball court to pool toys. The owners left us some brownies and a bottle of wine which was nice. Beautiful views from the property.

Great place!

Everything was as advertised. Gracious hosts. Spectacular house and property. Perfect for 10 adults and 2 little kids. It’s hard to imagine anything desired for a family reunion/ vacation that wasn’t available on the property or nearby. The pool and hot tub were hits with the whole family and every pool toy was available. The kitchen was the best equipped ever. WiFi was more than adequate for 2 remote workers.

Fantastic property!

We had a wonderful time over our long weekend with family! The property is very clean and comfortable. The grounds and the views of the mountains are so soothing and relaxing. The indoor pool was a hit with the children! We enjoyed bicycle riding on the GAP rail trail to Cumberland, with access right from the property. Pat is very quick to reply and communicate. We will be back!!

This is a lovely property filled with character. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hosts/owners were so accomodating and thoughtful! Nice people! The pool and hot tub were amazing. My family also enjoyed the courtyard and panoramic views. We had family from one year old to seventy-eight. We all enjoyed our time here and can't wait to go back. Perfect place for family and friends.

Mount Savage Farm is an amazing place. It has everything a family or group of friends could ask for in a vacation home. The amenities were wonderful, especially the large indoor pool. The home itself is large and has so much character. We also enjoyed exploring the 84 acres the property sits on. The owners of Mount Savage Farm were great. They went above and beyond to help make our stay truly enjoyable.

Family Time Together

I don't know where to start in this review so let's sum it up as off-the-charts wonderful! When selecting a home, it's hard to accommodate the interests of children, teens and adults but Mt. Savage Farm met everyone's needs and wants. There are indoor toys and games, books, outdoor games and great pool toys. The hot tub was a big hit. But the ultimate delight was the pool and its surrounds; with several sitting areas, tv and bar area, swimmers and non-swimmers didn't want to leave this space. The house had every need covered and the kitchen was very well equipped. It was clean and so very comfortable. This house was hard to leave. Lastly, Pat and Dan are great hosts; they will answer any question quickly and you know they want you to have a great time in their home. We want to come back!

We LOVED our stay!

The first thing you notice when you drive up is how absolutely beautiful everything is...the property and the views are terrific. And the inside is immaculate and great. Pat left gorgeous flowers and a welcome basket that were much appreciated. Pat and Dan are two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet, and both were incredibly responsive. Pat was extremely attentive to messages we sent before, during, and after our stay. You could not ask for better owners! The house is outstanding, with large bedrooms and a family room in addition to a big living room. The beds are very comfortable and both the pool and the kitchen are just incredible. You will absolutely love using the hot tub, too! The kitchen is large and has everything you could possibly use. Indeed, our experience was that the owners had thought of everything and added special touches to make the stay even more enjoyable. In our case, the stay had two groups of family members (one at the start of the week, and the second for the last part of the week) that included a four-month-old baby and a 98-year-old great grandfather. The fact that the house has a bedroom on the main floor was particularly helpful since Grandpa does not do steps well at all. The instruction book left by the owners is clear and concise. And the owners provided sticks for making s'mores at the fire pit, which was a real treat. Everyone just loved this place! You will, too.

The views from the property is breathtaking. Great place to get together with family and friends to relax and enjoy. The indoor pool was a big hit. This is our second family reunion stay at this elegant home with amazing and inspiring views of the mountains, gorgeous landscapes, and beautiful sunsets. We are grateful that Dan and Pat (our perfect responsive host and hostess) kindly shared their magnificent home with us. The house is fully equipped inside and outside with anything you would ever want or imagine to enjoy a family reunion, group of friends or special event. The amenities are incredible, including an indoor pool, hot tub, fire pit, grill, huge patio with plenty of outdoor seating, videos sports and board games, books etc. The beds are very comfy. Sweet pool and close proximity to many activities

We had a blast visiting family and enjoying the pool and hot tub. There is a big binder with tons of area activities and the location is an hour or less to many places. We went to Wisp twice and Rocky Gap Casino. The kitchen was well appointed and the house was plenty big enough for our mixed party. I would be cautious with young children due to multiple steps and some decorative items. The pool area locks and alarms which is an important safety feature for little ones.
