About this property
Custom-Built Log Home : Clean, Spacious, and only 4 miles from downtown Seward!
This is a beautiful, custom-built log home located just outside of downtown Seward. The previous owners spent ten years building the house, and cut down and hand-peeled all the logs themselves. It's a true Alaskan work of art.
We purchased the home in 2007, and live in a cabin just across the driveway. We are around to help with local activities and information and make sure you get the most out of your vacation! We're happy to engage and assist in any way we can, but we also respect your private space.
This house provides a very comfortable home-away-from-home while you're traveling, with all the amenities. The full kitchen is there for your use, there are large common areas - a huge slate fireplace surrounded by leather couches, Smart TV / VCR / DVD / High speed Wi-Fi / Stereo / Sonos, a grill and hot tub on the large front deck, a small covered back deck, etc. We have a washer / dryer and beautiful laundry room available for guest use. The house is modern and very clean, but cozy and comfortable. End your day relaxing in the hot tub or grilling up your fresh catch. We have a fire pit with firewood and horseshoe pits that guests are welcome to use.
For the 2025 season, we're starting a new partnership with a local company who will rent out and deliver a clean, modern, portable sauna to our property or other locations for you. Enjoy a nice sauna right in the back yard, or have it delivered to a local lake or beach and dance between the hot steam and the cold plunge. We'll provide more information about this upon booking your stay with us... but they'll offer a significant discount to our guests!
We can book Kenai Fjords Tours boat trips for you at a significant discount, as well!
We require completion of our online rental agreement at the time of booking - so please be sure to do that right away after you've made your reservation!
We do strictly limit the number of people using the house to the people listed on the rental agreement, at a maximum of 10 - including children. This is especially important to note if you have a larger group that spans over multiple houses. We ask that visitors who are not on the rental agreement do not use or congregate at our home.
Our pricing is a base cost for 6 people. Beyond those first 6 guests, up to the 10-person maximum, there is a $20 / person / night charge.
** Please note that we do have Ring security cameras on the two entrances to our personal cabin on the property, as well as one at the garage area of the lodge building, and one by the back shed. There are no cameras inside the lodge, and no cameras that will sense motion or audio on the deck or your private areas of the lodge. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. These cameras are in place for security reasons only.

About the host
Hosted by Wendy Doughty

We've lived in Seward since 2002, and absolutely love the area and the people! We owned and operated Kayak Adventures Worldwide through the summer 2014 season, and during those years Bear Paw Lodge was run as a B&B. It was a great lodging option for our clients, and others traveling to the area. Now that we've transitioned away from running Kayak Adventures, we've turned our log home into a vacation rental.
One of our favorite parts of traveling is meeting all the wonderful people. By living on the property and running the lodge, we're able to bring that aspect of travel right to our own back yard! It's such a pleasure to meet the people who stay here, and to assist them in maximizing their time in Seward.
We love the outdoors... and whenever we're not working on projects around the house, you can find us hiking, biking, running, fishing, kayaking, or even strumming our instruments around a campfire. Life is good in Seward, and we hope to share that with you!!

Why they chose this property
We were both originally drawn to Seward for the kayaking and the lifestyle. Landing at Kayak Adventures in 2002, we quickly realized how much we loved sharing this natural playground with others. That winter we purchased the business, and decided to make Seward our home. We lived in the tiny kayak shop for five summers... sharing the space with many guides, customers, dogs, etc. In 2007, we decided it was time to find our own space. And so we found this log home! It needed lots of work, but was well-built and spoke to us immediately. In June 2007, we moved in and began running it as a B&B. In 2015, we transitioned to offering the home as a vacation rental.
What makes this property unique
Come stay at the lodge, and in an instant you'll know why we purchased this log home. The quality and beauty of construction, the feeling of warmth and home, the space and light, the deck and hot tub, the location... the list goes on and on. We knew this was the property for us the minute we walked through the door in 2007. We bought the house with the intention of sharing it with others, and it's truly perfect for traveling groups.
