About this property

House of orchids, unique location.

THE PLACE - It has everything you want from Costa Rica: plus peace, coolness during the nights, intimacy, sense of space and security, breathtaking landscape all around the property. It gets its name from the orchid garden besides the house.

THE HOUSE: Charming, seated on a hilltop in a beautiful mountainous area, in a very private and quiet property. In the distance, you can admire the splendid sunsets on the Pacific ocean. Il is furnished and fully equipped with everything needed for a perfect stay. It can accommodate a couple or two, or a family with two children.

The kitchen-living room area is very spacious and has large door and window openings on all sides. It has also glass doors that one can shut during raine season. It is also appropriate for a wheelchair.

The bedroom on the first floor is connected to the bathroom, the other bedroom is in the mezzanine, both have a queen bed. The sofas (1 up, 1 down) can be used as extra bed. There is a safe closet space for your passports and other valuables.

IMPORTANT : At that elevation (2000 feet), there is always a soft breeze so it is never too hot during the day. Nights are cool which makes sleeping easy and restfull. We do not have air conditioning, we simply do not need it. There are hardly any insects around in the dry season, except for butterflies, but you are in nature, so everything is alive around you. You will probably see exotic birds such as toucans, eagles and parrots in the backyard, to name a few. And you could hear howling monkeys at night, a few meters from the house.

DRIVING TO THE PROPERTY - San Isidro is the largest city in southern Costa Rica; it is 3 hours away from San José and its airport. The road is paved all the way to the house except for the last 2 kilometers.

SECURITY, MAINTENANCE - You will be greeted at the property by Jose and Maria who live close by all year long. They will show you around and give you the keys to the house.

BATHING, SWIMMING - The house is 20 minutes away from Dominical, i.e. from the Pacific Ocean (and surf). Driving South or North along the coastline, you will find empty and semi-empty beaches and bay areas with fine beige sand and very civilized waves. From one of the streams of cascading water on the property line, a pool was dug in a natural basin; its water is always fresh and rejuvenating. It is a very intimate and safe place.

FOOD, SHOPPING, MARKETS - A 20 minutes drive will take you to San Isidro where you will find everything, from attractive restaurants to food and clothing stores. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, there is a « feria » (an outdoor market) where you can buy locally grown fruits and vegetables, even organic ones. Also in San Isidro is “Lufercz” (in front of Macdonald) a supermarket where you can find Costarican beer and coffee, and other exotic products such as sushi rice and nori sheets. And along the road between San Isidro and La Alfombra, there is a number of vegetable stands and restaurants with good food at very reasonable prices. In Tinamastes, the next village (2 km) there is an organic market every Tuenday morning; all food there is organic, and there are a feu interesting products form local artisans.

OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES - You will not have to go very far from the property to practice your favorite sport. You can take a horse ride to the spectacular Nuyaca Falls, or drive to Dominical, small town which is paradise for surfers. And you may want to visit the natural reserves in the area, go to a farm renowed for growing different spices, or on an excursion to the tree tops of the forest.

Great stay in the mountains!
This was a great place to be for a few days with my travel partner; we wanted to be out of the populated areas and have some peaceful time listening to the birds and other animals, which is exactly what we got! The host was very helpful and gracious, and the kitchen was well-stocked with cookware, which was super helpful! Overall it was a great stay.

Perfekte Entspannung

Beautiful house with stunning views
We really enjoyed our stay at Maryse's place, especially the amazing mountain and sea view. The house was very clean with a well-equipped kitchen. The location was just perfect, close to gorgeous waterfalls (Nauyaca, Eco Chontales) and not too far from Dominical & Uvita beaches. Communication with Maryse went smoothly. Highly recommended!

A Piece of Paradise
We had a great stay. We really enjoyed the view and the temperatures. As well, we were grateful for the very reliable electricity and internet as we were working some of the days during our stay. Communication with the owner and the property manager was easy and they were both very responsive.

Paradise in the Hills
Oh man, this place is amazing! We truly felt like we were staying at a spa or eco retreat. It's a gnarly drive to reach it, but so worth it. OUTSIDE: The property is gorgeous, with a nice balance of flowers, trees, shrubs and lawn. The view is amazing, whether it's of clouds settling into the hills below or the actual ocean in the distance. You're largely above it all. The trail to the waterfalls is a great little nature walk (a family of coati crossed our path) and the falls are beautiful. There's also a nice pool if you don't want to deal with the wild. We loved waking up with the birds and we easily spotted over 20 species during our stay. Toucans were regulars, but we also spied a Laughing Falcon and a Trogon among many others. INSIDE: The home is larger and more spacious than I expected. It's loft-like and a great example of rustic/modern fusion. The kitchen was open and perfect for cooking for the 4 of us. The beds were comfortable and extra secure with high-quality mosquito nets (though we didn't really need them, we see more mosquitos at home in Denver). THE EXTRAS: Maria welcomed us and provided fantastic on-site assistance. She did a small load of laundry for us and also gave us some fresh jackfruit to enjoy. We enjoyed going down to Domenical for breakfast at Cafe Mono Congo and dinner at Phat Noodle, and the beach a little further away at Domenicalito was perfect for the kids to explore and play. We spent 4 weeks in Costa Rica and this was our favorite place. When we come back, this place is first on our list.

Beautiful house
This house is located in an absolutely beautiful setting, surrounded by nature. It is slightly off the beaten path, a bit of a drive to most restaurants, groceries, etc. We really enjoyed the short hike down to the waterfall. Even though it is very open, there were very few bugs.

Beautiful bird watching
I miss sitting on the porch and watching the toucans fly by. We had a great time and found it to be a peaceful respite with beautiful views. The yard is amazing with beautiful flowers abound. We didn't miss the AC as the cool mountain air with the windows open was sufficient. We did not have any issues with mosquitos. Great place.

A piece of Paradise!
If you are looking for an off the beaten path piece of paradise this is the place. This stunning home has been designed and decorated to bring the outside in so that you can take advantage of every view. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and there are many thoughtful touches through out including binoculars, Spanish dictionaries, flora/fauna books, candles and candle sticks. The herb and vegetable garden is another added bonus. The arugula was the best we've ever eaten. The waterfall is a must do, you could spend all day down there!! On our final morning two toucans were in a nearby a tree eating berries, such a treat for us. Thank you to Maria and Jose so taking care of everything for us while respecting our privacy. We have vowed to come back to this magnetic place.

Amazing
We got to really experience Costa Rica here. It was nice to be surrounded by locals rather than tourist. It wasn’t too long of a drive to get to waterfalls or beaches. The house had everything we needed and the views were amazing. As other comments have said the pictures of the jungle pool do not do it justice. We love this place. Jose and Maria were delightful and so very helpful. We will be back.

Perfect getaway close to Dominical & Manuel Antonio
My fiance and I recently stayed at Maryse's wonderful home located in Perez Zeledon. This was our first stay in Costa Rica so booking a house without being able to visit before was a bit nerve wracking. All in all we are so glad we chose to go with this home. Maria and Jose, the caretakers of the property are so wonderful (as well as their daughters and dogs). We had an incredible time staying in the home, waking up to the rainforest and sunny mornings, being able to open up all of the doors for the fresh air and truly get to experience Costa Rica away from everything else. This house is in a great location, 20-25 mins from the nice beach town of Dominical, 30 mins to Quepos/Manuel Antonio, and close to shopping in San Isidro. The waterfall (jungle pool) on the property was absolutely incredible, one of those things that you cant believe it until you see it. I was able to get a lot of great photos of flowers, toucans and sunsets while at this property. I would recommend staying at this home to anyone who has either visited Costa Rica already or for their first stay.

Great remote location !
My wife and I are travelling around Costa Rica with our small dog. We wanted to try a more remote location to see how we would like it. This house was perfect. While it is "remote" it has amenities fairly close by. The house was comfortable and well supplied for our stay. Maria and Jose are the caretakers and were very accommodating. We visited during the rainy season so it was expected that we encountered a lot of rain during our stay. Despite that the dirt road ( about 2-3 KM long) stayed in good shape. We had a 4 wheel drive and we believe that made it easier but there were plenty of non- 4WD vehicles along the road. Back tot he house: The house opened up just like the pictures show and allowed a nice breeze and controlled the temperature perfectly. We were able to cook our meals or eat at one of the many options within 20 minutes drive. The communication with Maryse, the owner, was responsive and she was able to answer any questions we asked. She also provided us with good directions so we could find the house. For the nature lover I think it would be hard to beat this place!!

Hideaway in tropical jungle with stunning views.
We very much enjoyed our time on this beautiful property. The house is surrounded by gorgeous tropical garden and amazing views. Maryse and her husband did fabulous job designing the cabin and furnishing with everything needed allowing for comfortable stay. Meeting the care takers Maria, Jose and their beautiful girls was a delight, such sweet and kind people. Maria keeps the house in immaculate condition. We loved every minute of our experience interacting with the nature. Waking up to the calling Toucans, breathing the fragrance of the jungle after the rain and birds watching are some of our favorite memories. I am still in awe of our visit. I would definitely recommend this home if you would like a private yet conveniently located hideaway.

Will always keep this place in my heart
We travelled all over Costa Rica and stayed in many places but this is the one place I would like to come back to and that I will think about when I need to think of being peaceful. Website photo don't do justice to the beauty of the house and it's surrounding. You wake up in the morning and open the bedroom door to find yourself waking up to the most beautiful view and feel instantly great. The house itself is very very well appointed, if you like to cook there is everything you need and more. The bed and furniture are very comfortable, the wifi works. Jose, the keeper and his family are very helpful and nice, it's difficult not to fall in love for them. We walk down to the cascade and the natural pool at the bottom of the property , on a hot day the coolness of the water was welcomed and it was of course gorgeous. Up the street, on the main road, there is a small supermarket , a fruit seller and a restaurant with good food with a spectacular view. What more could you want ! I highly recommend the Siete Cascadas. It is one if the most peaceful place I have ever been.

Best kept secret on VRBO
After traveling around the world, I can honestly say this is where I fell in love. In love with wildlife, flora and property. Equipment, furniture, gardens, everything is there to make you feel in paradise. The guardians of the property were also very helpful. Before we arrived, everything was in place for a memorable stay. Much more beautiful than the pictures;) We will definitely return.

About the host

I am a writer, my husband is a stage hand. As such, I usually have the ideas, and he make them happen in reality. A perfect match to build a house, and make it comfortable and original. An example? Look at the lamp over the dinner table...

Why they chose this property

Because it combines the presence of sea, rivers, waterfalls and mountains at the horizon. We built the house exactly as we like it, open to space and nature around. It is like living outdoors, but protected from the sun & rain.

What makes this property unique

Calm, beauty, nice breeze, odors, clouds, birds and buterflies entering through the front doors and going out through the back doors, fruits abundant, juicy and fresh, vegetables crispy and colored... The whole place has a feeling of what Eden was like, before the sin. Plus possibilities of surfing and horse riding a few km. and orchids garden from the location. Jungle pool and waterfalls on the premices.
