A mixed experience

The "Tiny House" we stayed in was...okay. It's mildly impressive what the owners did to make a horse trailer into a reasonably comfortable place to stay three nights. But there were some quirks to the place as well, and overall we won't be going back. Upsides include the amenities. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but between AC/heat, small fridge/freezer, small electric stove burner (not a stovetop and didn't use it, but it's there for those that do) and a workable shower it gets the basics done. Downsides: the upper loft main bed is for those who don't have to get up in the middle of the night (aka the younger set). There is no guardrail on the end of the bed, and in the middle of the night it is not impossible to plummet some seven feet down. The lack of headroom in the bed is a minor issue, but the safety factor meant we "manufactured" a bed in the front "sofa" area by using pillows etc and sleeping there. The fire pit is decent and the wood supply plentiful (thanks). But you can't hide the fact that it's next to a road (a factor for night noise as well), the sky view is limited (with several electrical wires) and there is little ambiance . The shower/toilet area was...an issue. The shower worked okay (slightly low water pressure but acceptable). Unfortunately, the shower/toilet area floor is not entirely level--and the drain is not lowest point. So a small puddle tends to accumulate in front of the toilet. Perhaps a squeegee or something would be handy if the floor can't be redone. More of a surprise/annoyance was the compost toilet. The listing does note it is a compost toilet. What it does not say is that the liquids tank for the compost toilet fills in 2-4 days. When I pointed out to the landlords that the tank needed emptying, the response was surprising on two counts. (1) They asked "hey, can you do us a favor and dump it out?" And (2) "Just throw it out into the woods." Note that there aren't really "woods" around, though a couple of trees by the fence next to the road sort of qualify. Suffice it to say we weren't all that keen on pitching the liquids under trees next to the Tiny House--neither sanitary nor likely pleasant odor. We left the basin for the cleaning crew to deal with properly. Bottom line: while a potential place for 20- or 30-something folks wanting a relatively inexpensive and quirky place to stay near Asheville, my wife and I will not be staying there again.
