Now back to the magical domes:
When guests arrive they're always shocked by how big it really is - nearly twice the size of any rental in our area. Guest access

Drive right up to your door.. There's plenty of parking!
And there's tons of Nat'l Forest Trails all around us, plus lots of cool day trips! We're about 30 minutes drive from High Rolls, and from there you can go up to Cloudcroft, or down to Alamogordo. White Sands Nat'l Park, the Petroglyphs, Valley of Fire, Space and History Museums and more are all very do-able day trips from here.

Other things to note:

Cell phone reception is decent with most providers but not all. We have good internet.

We have delicious pure mountain spring water - no need to haul in bottled water!

We do not allow wild and/or heavy drinking parties.

We allow well behaved dogs who are friendly with people and other animals. There is a fee of $50. per dog. Please note, we have two dogs who are very friendly and who protect our property. We also have free range chickens so if your dog is a chaser, it will have to be kept on a leash.

This is a very unique site - it is part of our home as well as a functional art gallery, and is decorated with many beautiful things. Small children must be monitored at all times.

If you are hosting a workshop please let us know.

PLEASE NOTE:

When driving here, once you turn off Hwy 82, the first mile is paved and then it is 11 miles of winding gravel mountain road the rest of the way. This is a Nat'l Forest road and while it is always driveable, the condition of the road can vary with bad weather. (rare but it can happen). We will advise you prior to your arrival if weather looks dubious, and if we feel 4WD is necessary. We suggest driving in daylight because the views are so stunning you will definitely want to take photos!!

Paradise in the National Forest

This is such a cool place to stay. It's in the middle of the national forest and the domes are spacious and unique! There is hardly any traffic on the road and was good for biking and walking with some trails in the vicinity as well. Internet was great so we did get some work done. One afternoon we had a power outage and the very friendly owner took us on a tour of the property. Breathtaking views and interesting history. Property is dog friendly and the two Great Pyrs are friendly. We really enjoyed our stay.

Escape to the NM mountains

This lovely, unique dome home was a fantastic place for our family to escape the hustle and bustle of regular life. The sunsets were colorful, and the fall weather was just right for reading on the porch or enjoying a morning cup of coffee. The hosts are friendly and made us feel at home immediately; their two Great Pyrenees and two black cats were just as welcoming. Be sure to know there’s some back road driving and you should pack your things in for the stay. But getting to nearby towns like Cloudcroft for Alamogordo isn’t too bad - and there’s several things to see/do in both!

Amazing in the best way possible!

The most stunning place I have ever stayed at. You will feel as if you are all alone in the middle of a forest. The house itself is immense and full of history and views of the area. The hosts are a delight. As the hosts states, go to the store before you drive up and then just relax and unwind. Don't overthink it just go! Truly an amazing place and worth the trip.

Remote destination with amazing views

First of all, I would like to say there are few places where you can find this kind of beauty and solitude. The property is secluded and quite, with amazing views from this mountain side retreat. The hosts, Doug and Lily are very nice folks that will make sure that you have everything you need during your stay. From a single guest up to a party of 20, the property is spacious and can host any number of guests. Very peaceful and serene.

A true off the grid getaway

Doug was great. Place was what we were looking for. We enjoyed the quietness and relaxation. The stars at night were amazing to see. We spent the whole night looking up and gazing. It was endless. Place is huge with plenty of rooms and beds to accommodate a big family and friends to enjoy. You can spend the day looking at the art on the walls, listening to music, and exploring around the area. Trails everywhere. We drove away on our last day and all agreed we would come back.

Quiet mountain getaway

Gorgeous location, wonderful hosts, unique and welcoming house. I’m not sure what we can say that hasn’t been said already. It’s a beautiful space with everything a group could need. The listing is accurate and the photos don’t do it justice. If you are looking for a spacious, quiet, art-filled scenic getaway in the middle of a forest in the mountains, this is the place for you. The hosts are helpful and responsive and their fabulous dogs accompanied us on our walk in the woods which was awesome. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a lovely dinner that we enjoyed at the massive dining table. We sat in the extraordinarily spacious, fire-warmed living room chatting while watching Lightning overhead through the dome windows. It’s the perfect place to just slow down and enjoy the world around you. A couple of days was all we needed to get a good reset, but we’d love to stay longer next time!

Great stay at Domes on mountains

A good place to stay in NM, if you are planning on White Sands trip. Liliane is the best host, gave us a quick tour of the place when we first enter. They where also very proactive communicating via text beforehand. Also offered to lead a hike tour near the area. The view was amazing while driving and staying at this location. Nicko and Rosy are the owners dog and they are amazing. This place has good reviews on other websites as well. Host also offered us some free eggs. When our group went out for the hike the dogs followed us all the way. As they are trained herd dogs. There is 12 miles of unpaved road to get to the location, but we where a group, so we took turns driving. At last, I would definitely recommend this place. Very peaceful place, hidden inside mountains and nature.

About the host

Hosted by Heather Miller

Host profile image
We treasure the vast pristine nature around us and get a lot of joy out of introducing guests to the mountain wilderness of NM. We've hosted people from all over the world and it never ceases to amaze us what an incredible opportunity that is! Basically, we are easy going 'love life' kind of people with the great luck to live in paradise, and to have the ability to share it!

Why they chose this property

The Domes were originally built as a workshop and retreat centre. We inherited it and decided to share this bit of paradise with the world. And what great fortune to live in New Mexico 'cause it is awesome! It's history, landscape, Nat'l Parks, culture, art... all unique, fascinating and beautiful. There is SO much to see here - Whitesands, Carlsbad Caverns, Petroglyphs, VLA, Valle del Fuego... It's a rich multicultural land!

'The Domes is located in the Sacramento Mountains, and an easy day trip for many attractions. Close enough to civilization to interact, yet our rare property is completely surrounded by Lincoln Nat'l Forest. There's literally no one but us for miles!!

Guests tell us staying here has rejuvenated them clear to their soul! Here they find the time and space and tranquility to deeply connect with their friends and family... and themselves. We are right next door if you need us, and you won't see us if you don't! Whether you love meeting new people and sharing a slice of life, or you want to be completely alone - this is the place. The Domes is an amazing gift and we love seeing the 'Wow! on peoples faces when they first enter the enormous living room. Surrounded by art and books and interesting things, all our guests tell us it is way bigger than they thought, and they can amuse themselves for hours looking at the interior. The photos really don't capture the sheer size of the domes or its surroundings. How do you truly convey 1000's of acres of mountains and trees, and views that span over 80 miles in a few photos?

For the record, while we have all the comforts of home, we are all about environmentally conscious living. Our water is piped down the mountain from a natural spring (and it is delicious!). We use a septic system. We heat in winter with wood stoves and pellet stoves. We appreciate awareness of the environment during your stay.

What makes this property unique

No other rentals in Cloudcroft or High Rolls offer so much space. 5000 square feet, 6 large bedrooms, 14 proper full size beds - it's all yours.
No other homes for 10 miles in either direction.
Unusual dome design is a 'must' experience!
Remote, yet close enough to many attractions to do day trips: White Sands Nat'l Park, Petroglyph Park, Carlsbad Caverns, Valle del Fuego, VLA, Historical Museums, Space Museum, Art Galleries, Ruidoso, Las Cruces, El Paso and Cloudcroft...
Fantastic hiking right outside your door.
New Mexico skies uninterrupted. Almost no light bleed here - night skies are amazing!
