In the middle of the historic old town on a hill, right on Rossio Square, with a fantastic view over the roofs from Lisbon to the Tagus, lies the romantic manor house Villa Santana in one of the most beautiful bairros in Lisbon.

Due to its central location, just 100m from the famous Rossio square with many restaurants, cafés, theaters and sights, Vila Santana is the ideal starting point for exploring the most beautiful parts of Lisbon, such as Rossio, Alfama, Bairro Alto or Chiado, on foot.

The convenient location to the train station, metro or taxi also enables you to reach the surrounding area just as easily as Cascais, Sintra, the Hieronymite Monastery, Torre de Belem, etc.

If you leave window open, expect to be robbed

Response from the owner on leaving a window open and being robbed. "This is an extremely negligent behavior, as the apartment is located in the middle of the city of Lisbon" No AC so even in late September was very hot in the flat. The beds are very hard, not super comfortable. We would not really recommend it.

Good base to explore old Lisbon

The pros: In terms of view, amenities and location there are very few issues with this apartment. The view over Rossio is excellent, day and night, and it only takes 2 minutes to reach the square from the apartment. Rossio itself is a short walk from most of the old city, and taxis and tuk-tuks abound. The metro station in Rossio square means great wider access. There are a lot of tourist restaurants within 10 minutes walk, plus some more out-of-the-way/local ones close to the apartment. The apartment itself is two level, fitting 2 full side bedrooms and a box/bedroom, plus a shower room and a full size bath/shower room. The kitchen is part of the lounge and has most basic amenities including fridge, freezer, hob and oven. The neighbourhood is quiet, with no traffic noise even during the day. Now the cons: getting to the apartment is all up hill and pretty tiring. The neighbourhood is somewhat run-down, with graffiti and in places a bit smelly. That said, there are signs of re-generation and investment (including this apartment). Within the apartment there is no A/C so windows have to be opened. There is no easy fire escape either, since the lower floor bedroom windows are barred - the escape appears to be over the roof of an adjoining building, and I don't know if it is easy to get down from there. The TV is small and has few English language channels. There is no hand rail on the stairs, and these are a bit precarious towards the bottom. I managed to slip and fall on our last evening, leaving me bruised and shaken. The showers leak quite badly, especially if the hand held head is used. The upper bathroom continually smelled quite ripe as if a U-bend was not working. Finally, the master bed mattress urgently needs sorting as you roll toward the centre on one side, and away (out of bed) on the other. Reading all these negative points sounds bad, but generally these were minor irritations, detracting from what could have been a perfect place to stay. It is still a good one, making a great place to explore the city from, especially if you are out all day and just need somewhere quiet to sleep.

Quaint Little Apartment in a Good Location

This apartment was well-decorated and well-appointed for a 4 night stay for 2 couples. It is right near Baixa and walkable to almost all tourist destinations and must-see neighbourhoods in Lisbon. The train station to Sintra is also very close. The apartment is smaller than the photos make it appear but we did not spend much time inside. A couch/sofa and larger TV would be appreciated for those who want to stay inside longer. The included fans were needed as it gets stuffy during the day and windows open right onto the street so it's not safe to leave them open while away or at night. We did have a problem with check in. First, you cannot drive a car right up to the unit as it's on a narrow street where cars cannot turn around, but only a short walk. The listing has the address as 28, but the actual address is 27. We were dragging luggage up and down steep streets for 15min trying to find the right place before we resorted to matching the correct front door using the listing photos! We arrived at 6:30pm, the same time we told the manager we would be there, and despite check-in starting at 3pm, the place was still being cleaned. Good thing we found some good places to eat during the wait for our apartment, so it was not a huge problem. One more warning is that they expect 150 euro cash deposit upon arrival. They do accept other currencies, but this is the first time we were required to pay the deposit in cash and not through VRBO.

Great location, okay apartment

I preface this review with the fact that there were 5 of us in the apartment. The apt is clean, very well located and generally well equipped. The owners were generally responsive, though perhaps I am used to a more personalized touch. Seemed every deviation from the norm costs us extra (with the notable exception of the laundry - which was a huge plus). The apartment has a lovely view, but only chairs, no couch. The kitchen is generally well equipped, but no microwave and no paper towels. The most disconcerting thing is that there was not enough hot water for 3 of us to take showers serially, let alone 5. PLUS, the showers leaked from the bottom staunched only by towels they left for us. That said, for a smaller party it would have been a more comfortable place.

Die Wohnung und das Haus sind liebevoll und stilvoll renoviert und eingerichtet.

Die Aussicht auf die Altstadt und die Nähe sind herrlich. Um die Ecke hat es einen kleinen Lebensmittelladen und einige kleine und feine portugiesische Restaurants.

Zuhause in Lissabon

Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt in der Wohnung wahnsinnig genossen! Moderne, gemütliche Einrichtung, gute Betten, ruhige Lage, obwohl mittendrin! Herzlicher Empfang, freundliche Nachbarn und nach ein paar Schritten den Berg hinunter ist man direkt im Stadtzentrum. Absolute Weiterempfehlung, wir kommen wieder!

Great apartment, primo location

Sehr empfehlenswert

Wir haben uns in der Wohnung sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Lage ist perfekt und man kann Lissabon zu Fuß erkunden. Sind freundlich von Vanessa empfangen worden . Sie hat uns alles gut erklärt und stand auch für weitere Fragen zur Verfügung . Einzig das Bett für die 5 te Person ist nur als Notbett zu gebrauchen bzw. als Kinderbett.

Immer wieder gerne

Wunderschöne Wohnung, sehr sauber alles da was man im Urlaub braucht. Hier stimmt einfach alles, angefangen bei der netten Begrüßung bis zur Verabschiedung. Wir würden jederzeit wieder dieses Objekt mieten, einfach nur Klasse, toller Blick auf den Rossio Platz und die Stadt, sehr ruhig und zentral.

GREAT Location, no handrails on stairs

Travelled with elderly parents with osteoporotic knees and a walking 1 year old. No car. PROS: great location, a little steep to get into town, but my dad with his bad knee did just fine. Staircase when you turn left out of building or longer trail when you turn right takes you right into a main square within 2 minutes! Neighborhood seems scary at first, but neighbors very nice (Lucia across alley in 12 door actually was the one to let us in, because she wanted my parents to have a place to sit while we waited for manager to come down). Very Clean. Has washing machine that is also a dryer, but ask owner if you can use it. Kitchen had some condiments. Has wifi. Had baby cot set up for us. Beautifully decorated. Nice bathrooms. Nice views from living room. Cool, not hot. CONS: steep staircase that didn't have handrails, so my parents and toddler could have easily fallen off if lost their balance. Neighborhood seems sketchy at first with graffiti when you come up from town, but people very nice. I didn't like how although apartment was on the first floor, you had to take stairs up to the kitchen/living room area to get into the apartment, then take your luggage back down these steep stairs with no handrails to living quarters. Felt cramped, but had everything. Can be a little loud at night if there are kids playing in alley. No baby high chair, but it was ok.

la vie en rose - je ne regrette rien !

Die Lage: absolut einzigartig, erhöhter Blick direkt auf Lissabons schönsten Platz, den Tejo mit seinen Schiffen und die Burg hoch über der Stadt - nur ein paar Schritte ins pulsierenden Leben der Metropole und doch absolut ruhig. Ankommen: das Haus ist gekonnte Mischung aus hist. Substanz mit top Design, dabei sehr privat durch viele individ. Details stimmig. Es fehlt an nichts um sich sofort geborgen zu fühlen. Nachts wetteifert das Lichtermeer der Stadt mit dem Kaminfeuer.... Schlafen: näher dem Himmel ! ganz oben mit gläsernem 'Ausguck' auf die Sterne und die angestrahlten Fassaden; fast zu schade die Augen zu schliessen. Frühstücken auf dem langen Balkon mit Burgblick?oder lieber alle Fenster und Shutters (bodentief) öffnen?dann die tolle Küche geniessen?heute mal selber kochen?oder doch lieber um die Ecke ins Cafe, Restaurant? Alles zu Fuss oder schnell per Taxi oder Tram erreichbar.... Wer Lissabon kennen lernen möchte oder schon kennt hat hier den optimalen Standort. Nächstes Mal bleiben wir sicher länger - viva lisboa !
