Originally designed by William Krisel, a leading Mid Century Modern architect, and built by the famous Alexander Construction Company, House of the Sun is a glimpse into the idealized Palm Springs of the past.

This unforgettable #houseofthesun home is perfectly suited for a relaxing escape, with grapefruit and orange trees dotting the property and plenty of space to unwind in one of the many lounging areas by the large pool.

The Space:
A covered cabana makes for the perfect reading nook if you need to get out of the sun, and the custom built fire pit is the ideal space to watch the sunset behind the mountains or gaze up at the stars at night. Inside the home, a spacious living room, connected dining space, and open kitchen come together to create a central gathering spot for family or friends. The large sliding doors create a seamless experience between the indoors and outdoors. Step out each morning into the private lawn. Each bedroom is equipped with a full size TV, closet space, and unique local art. House of the Sun rests in the prestigious Racquet Club Estates, a charming enclave of Alexander homes, built in the mid-1950s. The house is 5 minutes drive from downtown Palm Springs and walking distance to a variety of restaurants, bars, and Victoria Park.


All long-term stays over 30 days require mid-stay cleaning that is provided to you by our professional housekeeping team. Please ask your reservation associate for more details.

We love our furry friends and welcome any well trained pets! We do require an additional non-refundable pet fee of $150, or $300 for rentals that are 30 days or more.

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire home and the driveway to park (2 spots). There will be no one else on the property, other than the occasional gardener and pool man, unless otherwise discussed with you in advance. Guests will be given a code to enter the home

All 30+ day stays require mid stay cleaning by our professional housekeeping team. This is a full clean of the house and change of linens. We pay our cleaners a fair, livable wage and we always strive to hire the best, most reliable and honest cleaners in the business. This team in the backbone of our company, and they work tirelessly to ensure every stay is a clean one!

The Neighborhood:
The Palm Springs community is a vibrant place to enjoy all that the area has to offer. There is a great downtown area, full of restaurants and shopping, and the city of Palm Springs is investing heavily to become a top tier destination for travelers.

The Racquet Club East neighborhood within Palm Springs is known for its style. Featuring post-and-beam construction, soaring rooflines, clerestory windows, open floor plans and blurred lines separating outdoors and in, the vast majority of the 500-plus single-family homes are iconic midcentury designs by architects William Krisel, Jack Meiselman, and Donald Wexler. Wexler pioneered the strikingly original ‘steel homes’ that introduced prefabricated, steel-and-glass construction of affordable housing created specifically for the desert and is seen prolifically in this neighborhood.

Getting Around:
Most people choose to have a car when visiting Southern California. There are an abundant amount of unique and significant attractions within two hours of this home. If you’re an explorer, we recommend a car.

If you’re the type that wants to arrive and relax at the house on your vacation, Uber and Lyft are readily available as well.

Other Things to Note:
This is a family-friendly home and not suitable for parties of any kind. This neighborhood has a zero-tolerance policy for any noise or music, and failure to adhere to city ordinance requirements will result in a fine of at least $500 and potential eviction.

Open Air Homes is setting a new standard for the short term rental industry. During your stay, we rely on a centralized texting service so that you can reach us anytime simply with a text. Our property management team cares for each home, and our goal is to have each home properly maintained before you step foot in the home. We make your check in and check out process a breeze, and simply ask you to turn off the lights/AC and lock up on departure. Our team is well versed in the local community, and we offer each guest a personalized set of recommendations before your stay, with the goal of making your stay a truly unforgettable experience.

- You understand that your check-in instructions will be sent after successfully signing our Rental Agreement.

- Pets and animals are not permitted at the property at any time whatsoever unless otherwise agreed upon in writing prior to booking. Failure to comply with this will result in additional charge up to $1000 and/or eviction without limiting any other legal or equitable remedies available to Owner and/or Company.

Instant Book is turned off for all of our homes at Open Air Homes. This is a conscious decision in order to be a positive change for the short term rental industry, We encourage guests to send us a respectful note and provide us a little bit of background about your group before booking, and then we will take this to the owner for approval. We believe that mutual respect is key to ensuring that this industry can thrive. Please note that in the State of CA, guests staying over 30 nights are legally required to sign a legal CAR form with the DRE. Our Broker of Record will send you this CAR form for signature once payment is made. Your reservation will be considered ready to go once the form is signed!

At Open Air Homes, we strive to give you such a great experience, that you will consider us for Property Management if and when you buy. Our goal is to provide unforgettable, relaxing vacations to our guests, and we aim to take care of all of the needs of this property before you step foot in the home.

This property has a private pool/spa that can be heated during your stay. The nightly rate for this option is $75 to heat to a standard temperature of 82 degrees. It is an additional $30/day to heat to 85 degrees and an additional $75/day to heat to 90 degrees. This is billed separately and must be confirmed and paid prior to arrival. Please let us know at the time of booking if you choose this option. Minimum 2-days of heat required

There is a 10-day grace period to return any items taken from the home at check-out (keys, garage remotes, etc). Replacement costs will be charged to guests if items are not received within 10 days of check-out.

PET FEES: For stays under 30 days, there is a non-refundable fee of $150 per pet plus tax. For 30+ stays, there is a non-refundable fee of $300 per pet plus tax. Damages and/or failure to pick up after your pet may result in additional charges at check out.

The Open Air Homes team is dedicated to making sure you have a great experience staying with us! We use a centralized texting service and have an international team so that we can provide you with 24/7 communication. You can rest assured that someone from the Open Air team will be there should you need us at any hour of the night.

*We send a breakdown of costs to guests for approval of additional fees before confirming the reservation.

*For cancellations, we charge a 4.5% fee if you decide to cancel your stay even if the policy states a full refund.

Relaxation Vacation
The outdoor areas are fantastic. Pretty big for Palm Springs with a lawn, fruit trees, multiple sitting areas, a gas fire pit, bbq and The Pool. The backyard also has a great view of San Jacinto Peak. The neighborhood is quiet but just minutes to downtown and the airport. The homes decor is the classic mid century you would expect with many true period pieces. The home has 3 bedrooms, all with very comfortable queen beds We were very satisfied with our week, in what we called, “Our” House of the Sun
