This house is amazing! Very clean and cozy. It has everything you could possibly need. We enjoyed swimming in the lake and relaxing around the fire table at night. This is the place to go if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation in the UP!
This place was so wonderful. The house and the guesthouse is impeccably decorated. Everything we needed was available for us from, cooking, enjoying the outdoors, enjoying the lake, and the owners communication. Absolutely fabulous. You will not go wrong getting this wonderful retreat!
We stayed at this cabin for a weeke d this fall, and were very pleased! It was clean, easy to get to, and had breathtaking views! We will definitely consider it again in the future!
We love this home on Monocle Lake. It’s our second time staying here. It is very cozy and the views can’t be beat. Lots of wonderful family time. Very relaxing and nicely decorated. We hope to come back for another stay soon.
This cabin on Lake Monocle was perfect for our family of 5. It is nestled in the trees on a small, quiet lake with a stunning view. My teenage son loved having the bunkhouse to himself and also enjoyed using the sauna and paddleboard. My toddler loved swinging in the hammock. My husband and I enjoyed taking the canoe across the lake. All 5 of us loved hanging out on the spacious porch, cooking meals on the Blackstone grill, and walking down to a spectacular Lake Superior beach. This place is a treasure!
My family and brothers family with our mom stayed at this lovely cabin on Monocle lake. We had 5 kids, 5 and under. The home was extremely clean. Fully stocked kitchen and linens. Ali was extremely responsive and communicative. The bunkhouse was close to main house and perfect for kids. We enjoyed the lake and canoe while the fall colors were at peak. The deck and sauna was a favorite as well. Great property for an up north getaway.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage so much. The lake was absolutely beautiful, quiet and relaxing. We all took advantage of the canoe and paddle boards and had so much fun swimming in the lake. The back porch was so great for sitting and talking and the view from the house was just beautiful. There was a nice grill and fire table. The bunk house was great for watching TV and for the kids to have their own little space. The sauna was a great amenity that we also loved. I would rent this place again in a heartbeat. We enjoyed it so much.
This was the perfect spot for our family getaway. A much needed respite from the summer heat, we were able to gather together and enjoy each other’s company inside and out - including the deck with a gas fireplace and the dock. I’m not sure there were many features that we didn’t take advantage of, and it was simply lovely!
Terrific! The property was beautiful and it was a great getaway! The booklet of information that Alison prepared was extremely helpful!

About the host
Hosted by Alison Crawford
Our family was lucky enough to grow up in the eastern U.P. We moved away to go to college and then lived in the Carolinas for 18 years. After starting a family, we moved to Wausau, WI 10 years ago. Three years ago, we had the opportunity to purchase this lakefront home and jumped on it. We come to the cabin as often as possible with our two teenagers. Our family loves spending time here so much in the summers that we decided to share this paradise with other families.
Why they chose this property
We have something for everyone here. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast looking for adventure or hoping to enjoy quiet summer days reading a book on our large lake front deck, our place is for you. We are a central hub to numerous Upper Peninsula attractions while offering a quiet solitude in the evenings.
What makes this property unique
Our home's outdoor deck sprawls the entire length of the home. This offers a tremendous amount of area to enjoy the lake during hot summer days or cool evenings. Only half of Monocle lake has homes while the other half is adjacent to Hiawatha National Forest. This means unobstructed views of nature 24/7. We enjoy morning coffee listening to the loons, playing on the lake during the day, an evening sunset stroll on Lake Superior after dinner followed up by a lakefront bonfire in the evening. It doesn't get better than this!
