About this property

Exclusive Adirondack Cabin on River, 24 Private Acres

Ever wished you could find a cabin & river without neighbors in sight?
Experience this completely private 24 acre property with a charming 1957 classic Adirondack cabin perched on an overlooking bluff that leads you down to the West Canada Creek and our island where, directly across, thousands of state land acres stand firmly untouched.
Give yourself a new york minute to wait, watch & listen.
and don't forget to look up, as most nights the stars are plentiful as you prepare a fire, inside & out!
The space
It’s all about heading down to the river steps away for sun and exploration..or hanging back for some solo quiet time with a bird's eye view or playing bocce ball and grilling up a lean mean campfire BBQ!
A little lux, a little rustic...just your little cabin in the woods:

*Please note the running water is siphoned from a newly installed water well July 2021. Although the quality has been tested with good grades, for now, we prefer to only shower & wash dishes with the well water until it has time to “settle”...The hot water is set VERY HOT at 140 degrees (Be Careful!) We prefer to drink and cook from the provided (6)3gallon jugs of local natural spring water we fill from Smith Rd. This usually lasts 10-12 days for a couple, but should you need more drinking water, take advantage of an excursion to see the sights (directions on how/where to go on Smith Rd for the natural spring is in the clipboard of instructions)
but you may want to just stay put, there’s plenty to absorb around the cabin..
take short walks around the forest property’s 24 acres (cabin is situated directly in the middle.
You may notice the natural openings as quasi trails..or make your own footpath)
we also encourage you to explore around the river island! (yes, that mass of land across the river actually is an island..walk up or down river until you get to either tips of the island..you’ll see another natural world on the other side!
We encourage you to bring river shoes!! (cheapie $10 river shoes can be found at Target, Walmart etc..) flip flops don’t cut it. ha

Guest Numbers:
The cabin accommodates up to 2 adults in the cabin’s queen bedroom nook, (so if you have kids, under 12yrs old, it’s free & we can place a camping mattress w/bedding on the floor) If you have a larger group, you can pay extra & decide who's the more daring to stay under the stars in the Sibley Bell Tent with 2 floor full size mattress pads. For the tent, we charge an extra $150/night for up to 2 and $55/per person thereafter. This is based on the honor system. (we can tally up and request payment later via Venmo, Zelle or Paypal)
Let us know and we can prep the bedding and appropriate # of mattress pads.

Due to the capacity of the septic tank/toilet/shower, we would only be able to handle a total of 6 guests in all. (kids & adults)

Firewood for both campfire & wood stove is provided: first bundle is on us! After that, we again ask to use the honor system and keep track of how many logs you use.
HARDWOOD is ONLY for the tent & cabin's wood stoves & fireplace as it burns cleanly. It is found on the right side of the wood shed outside. ($2/per hardwood log...sorry, it's pricey up here)
please use the available organic firestarters and you may also collect small branches as your kindling or use what’s been gathered on the screened porch.

CAMPFIRE WOOD is ONLY for the outdoor campfire as pine sap can ruin chimney pipes. stacks are found underneath the outdoor iron food prep station near the campfire ($1/per 2 logs) OR bring in your own (but seems to be the same price on the road)
feel free to gather outside as much kindling branches as you can for the campfire...you can take out the wheelbarrow to stock up!

Trash & Recycling Rules are listed under policy house rules *please take the time to read this thoroughly :) as there are specifics on whether you're allowed to leave it for our pickup service on Monday mornings or depending on your rental end date, you might have to take it with you. We can advise you in our welcome email.

RESPONSIBLITIES:
don't forget...THIS IS the wilderness..ma nature will do what she may
*We are not responsible and cannot provide a refund for any natural disturbances that can disrupt your stay or cause inconveniences. To better prepare, we have a clipboard hanging in the kitchen with all House Rules & Descriptions to have handy in case a storm takes out your phone/internet/electricity/plumbing etc..
*We are not responsible for your use of the stairs leading down to the West Canada Creek and of course, swimming/wading is at your own risk..(but this is a gentle creek)
*We are not responsible for any fallen branch or article, punctures or dings (to yourself or your car :)

Other things to note..Yucky but have to reiterate:
Absolutely no parties, meetings or visits by any other than Vrbo registered guests. This is for insurance purposes as well as what's right from wrong.
You will automatically forfeit your entire $ rental and will be asked to leave the premises immediately.

A perfect mountain getaway

We had a wonderful time at Kerry and Gonza's camp! It was immaculately clean and comfortable and you can tell that so much thought went into every single item on the property! We thoroughly enjoyed the private waterfront location, with plenty of shallow and deeper spots for splashing and swimming - our dog had entirely too much fun. The cabin has absolutely everything you need for a perfect summer getaway - well-stocked kitchen, soft and comfy linens and bed, even a top notch firepit for campfire cookouts. Thanks so much K&G - we're looking forward to coming back someday!

Pristine views at this cabin chic retreat

This property was stunning. The cabin was chic for what would be considered a “camp” and the river right along the property was incredible. I stayed with my dogs and we had a wonderful time. It was clean and the host was very accommodating. And the locals! What a treat! The fine people of Ohio NY are one of a kind! Truly amazing community and place to visit! Will surely be back!

Blissful

There are over 171,000 words in the English language and yet not one describes how truly wonderful this place is. From the minute you walk into the "Cabin" you can feel all your stress melt away. My wife and I never felt so comfortable as we did sitting by the firepit listening to Canada Creek babble by. The hosts, Kerry and Gonza, have truly elevated this "Cabin" experience. Thank you so much for sharing. We will be back

Absolutely tranquil

The nostalgic feel of this beautiful camp on the West Canada Creek was exactly what I look for in an Adirondack getaway. The check in process was hassle free and easy, I am from the area so I did not need the directions but the directions given by the host were very clear and easy to follow. The camp itself had an amazing mixture of modern feel with the look and lighting of an old Adirondack camp. The property and surrounding woods around the camp are clear and very nice to wander around and enjoy the birds and wildlife. The hosts provided absolutely everything needed to enjoy the camp for the weekend and then some! The West Canada was the perfect cool off temperature and the deeper hole that is about 50 feet up stream was extremely refreshing on the hotter days of our stay! My family spent many years at this camp in years prior and I have to say I am overjoyed to see how well the hosts have maintained that Adirondack camp feel with the little updated touches of modern comforts. I will for sure be staying again in the future!

Look No Further!

Look no further for the perfect cabin in the woods. This is It! Kerry and Gonza have created the ideal space, in the perfect setting. When we look for a cabin we want privacy--this is in the middle of 23 private acres. We want to hear and see water--this is on a rushing, babbling river. Fly fishing steps away! And directly across the river is an uninhabited island. Peace and quiet. We were there for 5 nights and never saw a soul--except for the blue jays, chipmunk and a distant owl. We were greeted with a generous care basket from our hosts upon entering this cozy, unique cabin. Filled with awesome midcentury antiques and details, high quality linens and bedding--it was rustically beautiful and totally luxe at the same time. I wish we lived nearby so we could return in the spring. Thank you for sharing this gem with us, Kerry and Gonza

Why they chose this property

Taking walks along the property’s paths overlooking the water or wading in the gentle creek risking little as it touches only midway up your calf or finding deeper swimming pockets to plunge and swim infinitely against the current..this microscopic ecosystem represents Adirondacks as a whole! Plenty of birdwatching and bird listening..as loons bob across the meandering stream, kingfishers dive and skirt the water, grouse and wild turkey families prance about worry free, a random wood fox and jack rabbit occasionally peek out, a friendly frog hang outs for an entire outdoor lunch, busy hummingbirds scour the honeysuckle and hosta flowers along the cabin as a plethora of fluttering butterflies change out colors and markings depending on the migration season..this all happens if you give yourself a new york minute to wait, watch and listen.
