Problems with check in.

Could not get in on check in day…could not connect with Vacasa for code to enter. Waiting for refund for one night…did not get in until Monday morning. Not happy that we could not connect with Vacasa on Sunday night to get in. Don’t you have people working on Sunday night? 22 min on hold 1 tiWe did not get in the 1st night …did not get code from Vacasa…tried to contact them many times. No response. Very angry! Hard to stay elsewhere here…got in at 8 am the next morning. NOT GOOD!

Unfortunately our stay was not tranquil.

Very nice place with many nice features. As advertised it could be tranquil. The lanai is very nicely done, and the separate King bedroom is also very nice. The kitchen is very functional and other than a couple of things that have issues, it was very nice. If you plan to arrive after sunset, bring a flash light because no indoor or outdoor lights are on, so actually getting in is difficult. Our stay was really more like a 2 star because of a major feral pig issue. Starting on the second night feral pigs invaded the property and were fighting and digging up the front and back of the property. The second last night a group with dogs came in and after around 2AM things settled down some what. The dogs still barked at all hours (we were told the dogs were barking because of the pigs). If that issue goes away, and the dogs also settle down, then the setting would be lovely. So I gave it a 4 star rating even though our stay was a 2 star.

Beautiful views of nature

We’ve visited this property several times now. We love it everytime the beautiful lush green trees in back give you that jungle vibe. The sounds of the coqui and other animals is actually sp calming to my spirit. Weve had many family dinners or played board games out on the lanai. Take a breathtaking drive up the road and find secret spots with palm trees and crashing ocean waves!

My stay

Great place to be away from all the tourism. Great site seeing. Only a couple issues. Tried to preheat the oven, opened after about 8 minutes and almost past out from the gas. I did not preheat. Make sure you get to the property during the day or you most likely won’t be able to find it.

Adequate

Not the cleanest. Geckos inside were cute but their feces on the walls wasn't. Slow wi-fi. The two bedrooms are in separate buildings, connected by a covered area that is not screened in...not ideal for our little kids. Loud neighbors partying until 3am kept us up. We left 2 days early.

Beautiful house in a nice, quiet neighborhood

We loved the house and the location. The only thing we didn't like was the check-in. The code that was given didn't work and when I called the Vacasa number, I had to go through a phone tree to finally talk to someone who was then reading script from a computer and had to troubleshoot, with me on the phone. Once we were inside, we found that one of the bedroom doors was locked and it needed a separate key. There was no mention of this in the check-in directions, no mention of it in the house binder. I had to call Vacasa AGAIN, go through the one tree, wait on hold, until they came back with no answer. I finally found the key to the bedroom hanging in the kitchen, but directions to it would have been ideal. VERY frustrating when we were tired and hungry and wanting to settle in. I wouldn't rent from a VACASA property again.

A Special Place

This place has everything you need! A black sand beach within a 5-minute walk, privacy, wildlife, island living, and great amenities if you pack light and don't like to eat out. I went on a solo trip to get away from the main land and city life. I needed to submerge into nature, and this place is about nature. Coqui frogs at night, live-in geckos, chickens roaming around, and maybe some pigs sniffing out bugs (not certain, but thought I heard them in the yard at night and saw tracks in the morning). Then there is the beach! The water is invigorating! The black sand is mesmerizing! And the tropical trees and cliffs provide natural shade when you want out of the sun. My favorite day was Sunday. It was busy with locals, and in the afternoon some people came with instruments and started playing music. The people are friendly and kind and curious. And they are so easy to chat with if you are looking for some human connection, which I was since I was alone all week. Also, please check out the Farmers Market on Saturday morning on the lava in Kalapana. It's a quick 5-minute drive south of the house. There is great Thai food cooked right there, and fresh guava juice. Also, the locals can tell you about how life has changed in that area due to the 2018 eruption. The last thing I will say is the location is great for traveling around the east side of the island, like Hilo and Volcano. It was such a nice spot to return to after a day of hiking or scuba diving.

Lovely house/property in quiet neighborhood

Lovely oasis! The lanai is very nice, feeling like it's up in the trees. No a/c, and the area was pretty warm when we were there, but the fans and airflow helped a lot. The house had good airflow and fans, and is nicely appointed. We enjoyed cooking here as well, and dinners out on the lanai were great.

Fun stay at Kehena

We LOVED this place! I was a bit worried about no air conditioner but it was fine. We were there in August and it got a bit warm during the day but it cooled off nicely in the evenings and we slept great. We kept all the windows open and listened to the rain and the frogs all night. The neighborhood is really cool. We walked around and found coconuts and avocados that had fallen out of trees. It is truly like you are in the middle of the rain forest. Kehena beach is close. Plan ahead- it is clothing optional. We found that most of that crowd went to the beach in the morning so we would go in the evening for a more family friendly time. Try to make it to the market. ( I think Sundays.) There were 25-30 tents set up selling everything! Fruit, tee shirts, jewelery, banana bread etc. It was a lot of fun. Overall- wonderful place! We are ready to move there!

Absolutely magical, secluded corner on Big Island

OVERALL We loved our stay at this property, and can’t wait to return one day! It’s a hidden gem. PROs -The first thing we noticed when we walked in is how modern and clean it was. It was so clean that we walked barefoot in it all day and didn’t get any dirt on our feet . -The property is very well equipped, with a great fully equipped kitchen (including spices), beach towels, washer, dryer etc. which is very convenient. There were even some board games in the living room, which kept our evenings fun! -The hosts know how to receive guests. We were pleasantly surprised by a nice bottle of wine and a little book of tips and instructions about the locale when we arrived. Very much appreciated! -The location is tucked away in a very quiet, cute neighborhood. You wake up to the sound of birds and fall asleep to singing frogs. The house is surrounded by trees that give you complete privacy. -The Kehena beach nearby takes just a few minutes to walk to. It has soft black sand, and the atmosphere on the beach is just magical. (The surf is a little rough for little children, but we as adults were able to swim there every day.) -Though there was no reception on our cells in the area, the property had great Wi-Fi and fully functional TVs with a functional Netflix account, which was a big plus for the evenings. -If you’re worried about no AC, do not worry. The temperature in the area drops at night, so we slept very comfortably and even had to wrap ourselves in some cozy blankets. During the day it’s just at the sweet spot where it’s very warm, but you’re not sweating like a pig. Almost all door and window in the property has a net, so you can keep all the windows open. CONs -The only real con is that there isn’t much around in terms of restaurants & supermarkets. So make sure you shop well before arriving because there won’t be a convenience store you can quickly run out to for bread or extra drinks. -There will be some bugs. You’re in a rainforesty area. We just covered ourselves in bug spray after sunset and were mostly mosquito bite free. It’s mostly just little moths, mosquitos, and ants, and they mostly keep themselves to the lanai. So you don’t have to worry about anything big and scary. But if you’re scared of all bugs, this area may not be right for you.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a lovely time. The house was in a great location. The only draw back was the gas for the stove and the hot water ran out as soon as we arrived and we spent the first day without. The problem was taken care of but not having any way to cook and no close restaurants was difficult and frustrating way to start. Once the problem was taken care of we had a wonderful stay. I would stay there again.

Nice property but a little isolated

The property was nice, good facilities and very comfortable. The local black sand beach was great, although the track down was not easy. To travel anywhere on the Island was a distance and shopping was definitely not local. Because of Covid some of the local attractions where closed. But we did enjoy the property itself.

Wonderful, secluded get away

We started our stay on the Big Island here and it was a perfect way to unwind and disconnect. The home was lovely and had everything you need. Detached master suite was a nice touch and we spent most of our time on the Lanai. Word to the wise, mosquito repellent a must unless you’re one of those fortunate souls they find not tasty. A 5 minute walk from Kehena Black Sands Beach, warm rain showers most mornings and the Coqui frogs to serenade you at night this was a wonderful place to relax. Spent two weeks at this property and thoroughly enjoyed!

Rainforest Getaway!

We were here for two weeks. It was great! House is just as described. Easy contactless check in and check out. Bed in the master is super comfy! Our family of three fit comfortably. The furniture was not that great for lounging around. But we spent most days out and about. Kitchen isn’t really stocked well for long rentals, so if you plan on cooking a lot I would suggest checking to see what is there first. There is no garbage service, so if you need to dump your trash before your check out you have to haul it yourself. House has lots of towels, chairs, and beach toys. The best part about the house is that it is only a 10 minute drive away from the hot ponds! And there are many beautiful places along the way to park and sit in your chair to watch the ocean. There is also a local beach that is very popular with the locals. Only 9 minute walk from the house (clothing optional). You have to walk down a cliff to access it. If you are looking for a place where you can disconnect, then this is the place. Though you are in a nice quite neighborhood, it feels like you are all alone in the rainforest. Be prepared. It is a 2 hour drive from Kona. About an hour from Hilo and 30 minutes from Pahoa Town. Also, it’s the rainforest so be prepared to get to see the local wild life and don’t forget your bug spray. Our family loved it here and really enjoyed our time. Mahalo 🌺

Clean, stylish rainforest house

This home was very clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. The location was really nice-- situated in a little neighborhood in the rain forest. It was lovely looking outside and seeing a wall of green, and being able to hear birds chirping outside. It's close to some great beaches, including one with a hot spring! It's maybe 20 minutes to the nearest town, Pahoa, and 40 minutes to Hilo-- so not the most convenient from that perspective. But if you're looking for a house that feels remote, this is it!

Really cool house/area

We stayed for 2 weeks working from home/exploring the Big Island. The house was well-stocked, and the managing company was quick to communicate and send all of the details. We did have a little trouble with the wifi at times as it is in a more remote area, but it wasn't too bad, and on the whole, we really enjoyed Kevin's place and would definitely come back!
