Bring your big toys!
We arrived to the most peaceful place! The neighbors were very quiet, the lake was quiet, sometimes. We really loved just watching the lake and it's many moods. Had a few fierce thunderstorms go thru and the as awesome to experience! We brought our kayaks and paddled the lake, then Otter lake and other waters as well. Then we brought out mountain bikes.

Beautiful peaceful place
I very much enjoyed my time at this cottage with my childhood friend. We both have very high paced busy lives and it was nice to have a ladies weekend. The cottage is very clean and bright sitting right next to Lake Superior. I will say you will need lots of mosquito spray! Don’t bring large wood if you plan on having a campfire and bring camp fire tools like log tongs and pokers. I highly recommend this place!

House was very thoughtfully-appointed and decorated. A beautiful property right on Lake Superior.
Gorgeous views and nice cool breezes cooled the home down during a VERY warm week. The owners are very welcoming and pleasant.

Quiet and clean cottage on Lake Superior
This is a lovely little cottage with 2 bedrooms and a great room to keep everyone together. There are houses nearby on either side of the cottage, but we never heard a peep from them. The water is clearly viewed and heard from the kitchen, dining room and one of the bedrooms and the sunrises are beautiful. Unfortunately, the higher levels Lake Superior has been experiencing has caused the beach to erode to the point that access to the water is nearly impossible. The grass just ends (and is splitting in places) in a good 10 foot drop to the water that is complete rock. This made any outside time with our 5 and 3 year old boys quite nerve-racking as there is no protection to falling off of the edge. In other words, Lake Superior is there to look at, listen to, but not to touch. The location is great for exploring all that the Keweenaw has to offer as well as the Porcupine Mountains and East to Marquette. Our kids loved the large outdoor playground, Shoots and Ladders, near the canal in Houghton and were enamored by the underground tour and tram ride at the Quincy Mine. Our favorite places are Lake Manganese- the water was warm and shallow and the boys had a blast splashing about and Brunette Park- a fairly small roadside stop on Lake Superior with a gorgeous view and beach for playing. We also had a great time on the beach by Marquette, long and sandy. The frigid temperatures of Lake Superior doesn’t seem to bother kids, but Mom is happy just walking along the beach and enjoy the views.

Beautiful cozy lakeside retreat
Our three day stay during Michigan Tech's graduation weekend could not have been more perfect. Wish we'd discovered this gem a little sooner before our grad leaves the area! It would be a great place to come back to again and again, as a base for exploring the Keweenaw peninsula, or as a bright and comfy spot to just stay put and relax. Thanks!

Relaxing week vacation stay at a cottage on Lake Superior
We stayed for one week in September at the cottage. We found everything we needed for housekeeping and the location was convenient to a full grocery store and a laundromat. (in regards to well water- we bought a couple gallon $3.00 container of water at the local grocery and stored it in the fridge for drinking). The beds were very comfortable and lots of sitting areas to relax and read. The views of Lake Superior from the house windows and from the shoreline are spectacular- during the day and at night. It has a perfect lounging spot to sit out at night at view the Milky Way. There is not really a 'walking beach'- however with water shoes - this adult easily waded their way along the beach's sandstone shelf and collected several bags of rocks. Whitecaps Cottage is located near Houghton Michigan and we made trips north into Keweenaw County and also headed east to Marquette for the museums and shopping. Plenty of visitor information tour guides are at the cottage to help start your exploring. The house sits on a quiet gravel side road off of the highway. There are a few neighbor houses but the area is quiet and private and the road is flat and long enough for a morning walk. We voted this house as a return house to visit- and we look forward to another relaxing vacation stay on Lake Superior!

My stay at Whitecaps Cottage
I was called to the UP of Michigan for a project and decided to rent a small cabin close to the work. Kriss (owner of the cabin) was really flexible and worked with me on my uncertain end date. The stay was exceptional. Quiet and fantastic back-yard access to the mighty Lake Superior. Definitely will rent this property again if I return to the area!!

Outstanding view and property
My husband and I spent 12 days at this wonderful cottage. There are outstanding views from all the windows, and being so close to Lake Superior was a huge plus. Imagine lying in bed and watching the sun in the morning, and a full moon at night come up over the water, listening to the waves and seeing eagles right out the window. The picture opportunities in this area were endless. The interior was very clean, and furnished with comfortable furniture and beds. The décor was tastefully done, from the unique wall art, to all the creative touches that are designed to remind you to relax, you're on vacation. It was well stocked with plenty of extra towels, blankets, paper products, etc, and everything you need in the kitchen. We found so much to do in this area, several good hiking opportunities,(including MT Arvon the highest point in MI) visiting historic Houghton and the University, great shopping, kayaking on both the lake and the rivers, Copper Harbor, and all the falls(we loved the Cannon Falls). There are also several good places to eat in the area. The cottage will have plenty of information for the guests. Booking, check-in and check-out were easy. Thank you for opening your home to others. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we didn't want to leave.

Charming, well appointed cottage right on Lake Superior!
We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage. The sunrise was gorgeous as we watched it from the living room. We sat by the lake and watched a storm roll in. We heard the waves crashing during the night and slept so peacefully. We had everything we needed for our stay. The cottage was very clean and very charming. Will definitely stay here again.

Perfect Getaway
We stayed at Whitecaps cottage for a week in June. It is a lovely, clean, cozy cottage on the bay. The views are gorgeous!! Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We had a very relaxing week, as soon as we arrived we could feel the pressures of everyday life lift away. The cottage almost screams "relax". It is located in the perfect spot, close to many tourist sights, yet far enough away to enjoy the peaceful beauty of the UP. We went to Copper Harbor, Jampot, and Fort Wilkins one day, then spent 2 days discovering the waterfalls nearby. Bond Falls is a must see!! Everything we needed was provided. Do yourself a favor and take advantage of this lovely , affordable cottage if you want a terrific getaway!!

A wonderful retreat on Lake Superior!
My husband, son, and I spent four nights at the Whitecaps Cottage in October. The fall colors had already peaked, but there was still plenty of fall foliage left and we certainly enjoyed our visit to the Upper Peninsula The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the view of Lake Superior was just fabulous. We cooked all of our breakfasts and all but one of our dinners in the well equipped kitchen. Our one dinner out was in Houghton at the Library Brew Pub--a really good place to eat!. There were plenty of brochures provided by the owners on what to see and do in the area. We drove to Copper Harbor on the Keweenaw Peninsula the first day taking in the sights and did some hiking in the rain. The second day we has sunshine so we drove to the Porcupine Mountains and took a longer hike there. Our third day we went back to Copper Harbor and hiked some more. We had a wonderful lunch at the Keweenaw Lodge. One of our favorite things to do at the cottage was watching the sun rise over Lake Superior while eating our breakfast. The cottage was truly a great location for us to enjoy both the Porcupine Mountains and Keweenaw Peninsula. Thank you so much for sharing Whitecaps Cottage with us,

A Perfect Vacation Cottage
Whitecaps cottage is perfect in every way. It is located in a quiet location with a fantastic view of Keweenaw Bay on Lake Superior. It is suitable for those that want some solitude, but also suitable for those that want a base of operations for exploring the surrounding region. The cottage is immaculate, reasonably priced, and the owners are very accommodating. I gave it 5 stars, but it is actually worth 10 stars.

Super vacation - THANK YOU!
It is seldom that I have rented a place sight unseen and not been somewhat disappointed. The camera angles are misleading or the photos have been cropped. In the case of Whitecaps, the description and photos underestimate the place. It is the perfect place to go to be away from life's pressures and demands. It is removed, quiet, peaceful and beautiful. I am returning this summer for the third time. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from busy-ness. Just please don't book during my favorite time!

Why they chose this property

We've always wanted to have property on Lake Superior and this cottage is just the perfect location.

What makes this property unique

Skipping stones on the lake. Roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves. Relaxing by the electric fireplace in the evening. We have seen several eagles at our property and deer on our road. We love to watch the loons float by with babies on their back!
