Adorable beach house
The house was perfect for our 2 night stay at the beach. Just a very short drive to several beach accesses and the fishing pier. The kids(and adults) thoroughly enjoyed the hammock and swing. The host was great, even dropped off supplies he knew were a little low the night we arrived.

Great time and an amazing Host!
Some friends and I were looking to go on a beach trip before college life started back up and came across Harrison’s property. It was the perfect fit for what we were looking for. He was very polite, responded quickly, and just made the experience all the better! Would definitely recommend and hope to go back again!

Old-school beach cottage vibe in a peaceful neighborhood
Reminds me of my OBX experience growing up: hammock, porch swing, and a Tiki ring toss game in the shade under the house. Natural red-orange wooden walls indoors and weathered grey wood outside. We weren’t there long enough to use all the available amenities (like kayaks), but we liked having the option. The owner left great instructions for local attractions and places to eat. The place is nothing fancy, but with all the amenities that are classic of the older style cottage. We appreciated the air conditioning (and that it was already in before we arrived). Cons (sort of): 1) I took off a star on cleanliness just because there were a couple house issues like rusted locks and a few bugs that didn’t really fit under other categories. The house was decently clean so don’t misunderstand my rating there. 2) We did have to drive to the beach— it’s too far to walk, in our opinion. Good news is that it’s a really short drive to half a dozen great public beach access points with parking, so it ended up not being a problem. You could probably bike it, and a couple of beach cruiser were provided, but we never took them out. They have some wear and tear from the salty air, but they still appeared usable, we just never got the chance. Master bed mattress is pretty hard/firm. However, that being said, I actually got a decent nights’ sleep. Wasn’t sure it would work out, since I am pretty picky about such things because I have back problems. As a back up, if needed, the couch is quite comfy. Bring your own games if that’s important to you (there’s a couple of books, and an UNO deck and scrabble) but not much else. There is a tv and such, but we never used it. Pros: There’s a really close shopping area with a Food Lion, Belks, a couple food places, and the famed Duck Donuts. Highly recommend checking out the nearby Jolly Roger’s restaurant! Neighborhood had a great relaxed vibe. Felt less tourist-y than a lot of properties right on the beach, which I enjoyed. Also makes traffic/driving nice. Great bike path close by, and we enjoyed seeing several neighbors out walking their dogs in the evening. The owner left us a great list of local activities and restaurants etc. Definitely take advantage of his recommendations. Very good!

July 4th Weekend
Great location close to the bay with running/biking paths lining the water nearby. You’ll want to drive to get to the beach but the neighborhood is pretty quiet and the house is good for a small family or couple.

About the host

Host profile image
Hello! My name is Harrison and I am a physical therapist and passionate surfer. I have been living in the outerbanks for the past 3 years. Fell in love with the area during my high school and college years when I would work here during the summer. Looking forward to providing a safe, clean, place for you to visit my favorite place in the world!

Why they chose this property

The home is located in the "Avalon" area. Walkable distance to Bay Drive....one of the best places to watch an OBX sunset on the sound. If you decide to take out the kayak, there is a public sound access .5 miles away from the house. Make sure you park across the street to avoid towing. There is a public (ocean) beach access across the highway that has lifeguards from 9-5. You will be able to walk to the access as there is a crosswalk one street over. However, sometimes it is easier just to load up the car with beach equipment and head to the access. The Avalon pier is right across the bypass and has quickly become one of the most popular bars on the Outer Banks. Nearby restaurants nearby include the Black Pelican, Awful Arthur’s Seafood, Miller’s Seafood, Henry’s, etc. Another notable bar/restaurant is the Outer Banks Brewing Station which is a 5 min cab/uber ride.

What makes this property unique

This property is very unique as it is similar to the original beach cottages of the 60's. I have kept the original wood in several parts of the home to give it that timeless beach feel. The house is cute and quaint and is perfect for small families, couples, or solo travelers.
