The property photos and descriptions are mostly accurate. The 4 main house bedrooms are all good size and the beds were extremely comfortable. The annex apartment was nicely appointed, the only issue is that everyone in our family is tall, and the loft bed with its low ceiling was a bit challenging. The kitchen has been modernized and well appointed. Overall the house is spacious with several "living areas" allowing a family to spread out. The bathrooms have been somewhat updated but the 2 tub/showers in the main house could use some attention and further updating.
We loved spending time on the screened porch visiting with our extended family, watching the birds and squirrels at the feeder with our morning coffee and the fire flies at night. The house is close to so many beautiful state parks for lots of hiking and swimming. Also close to Cornell’s botanical garden and ornithology lab. And near great breweries and wineries. The Finger Lakes are a wonderful vacation spot and our family really enjoyed having the Tate house as our home base.
Ten person family returning to Ithaca as an extended weekend getaway-looking to re-connect and spend time with aging parents. Such a great decision to stay at the Tate House. Location is easy in and out of both Ithaca and Watkins Glen. We lived here almost 50 years ago so we spent a great deal of the days travelling around the area but the best parts of out stay were the mornings and evenings. At those times we were in the house eating, drinking, remembering, telling stories, and laughing together. Tate House is PERFECT for these activities. Kitchen is large and open, dining room is just the same-plenty of room to hang out, cook, and eat. We particularly enjoyed being together on the well appointed screened in porch overlooking the garden area and woods. Anyone that needed a little quiet time could retire easily to a bedroom or the parlor/library (which, such a cool little cozy space.) Of course, the place is old so it needs a little loving care here and there (some of the decking in the front of the house has soggy boards or nail pops,) and the flooring and stairs (as is to be expected) is uneven in spots-none of this is likely to be problematic for most guests but we had a few elderly folks with us and they had to be mindful.
Overall, a stellar, well appointed property that could not have been easier to inhabit.
Thank you!
This house was just right. It has 5 well spaced big bedrooms, and important to note a king bedroom and bath on the ground floor. The house was spotless and uncluttered. Each room had a fan and plenty of extra blankets and towels. One of the bedrooms is an apartment right off the kitchen. My son enjoyed this having this be very private. The outdoor porch was peaceful. All around great house
This house worked very well for our family weekend. Dining area had a large table that easily accommodated our group of 8 adults. Kitchen was well stocked and we had what we needed to cook some great meals.
Beds were very comfortable which allowed for a good nights sleep.
Great set up in the living area so we could all gather there and be comfortable.
House was very clean and we had plenty of parking.
My family was in Ithaca for a reunion. We stayed at this charming home about 3 miles outside of Ithaca. Although it is an older home, it has been updated to have everything we needed. The beds were super comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and we had plenty of linens. Everyone enjoyed their stay.
We were there for a wedding. Very close to Farmers Market and loads of waterfalls and wineries in every direction. Loved that there was a bedroom on the first floor for my parents who can't do stairs anymore. Extra apartment was perfect for our adult children to have a place of their own. Having king beds was a plus. It was a great stay with parents and extended family. We all had our own rooms and loved the extra large kitchen table for all of us to gather at
Great house for two families with lots of kids ages 3-12. Lots of space for outdoor play, hanging out playing games on the porch, or finding a quiet corner to curl up with a book. Location was perfect and close to everything for exploring Ithaca and surrounding towns and parks. Property manager was very responsive when we had questions. Highly recommend.
Great property for a group of 8-10 people. The house had everything we needed. We cooked and the kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans. The beds were super comfortable. The screen porch is a wonderful place for morning/night relaxing. Close to Ithaca and the colleges. There is no downside to this property. We especially loved the antique charm of the house. Anne was very responsive to all of our questions. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
The large dining room table with all the chairs helped create such wonderful group mealtimes . The screened in porch is such a special extra room to hang out in. The house is furnished tastefully and has everything you might need.
Beautiful home with a perfect location for family members from west and eastern NY, Philadelphia and Connecticut. Everything we needed to cook a large meal. Plenty of space for everyone and short drive to town. We loved it!
We stayed here with multiple households for a friend reunion. Our group includes a 4 year old and an infant. The family with the infant stayed in the separate apartment with the pack and play in the living room area. The family with the 4 year old stayed in the two connected bedrooms. It worked great! The apartment served as a great early morning hang area with the kids while other adults slept in in other parts of the house. The kitchen was well equipped for a lot of home cooked meals. The TV was great for movie nights. The screened porch was wonderful for morning coffee enjoying the views of the backyard. The ONLY downside was that the house was closer to the road than I thought - you can definitely hear road noise - so if that bothers you, be aware. Otherwise, would recommend!
This was a spacious place for our large family to stay. The location was great for our needs and the outdoor area was a great space to relax in. The large table was perfect for family meals. Anne was quick with communication during our stay to address a minor issue. It is a charming historic home, however it could have been cleaner.

Why they chose this property
We love historic homes and this one is a gem! It is a reputed stop on the underground railroad and both the the indoor and outdoor common areas allow large groups to have some space to relax with a book or gather together. Stylish and updated.
What makes this property unique
House is very spacious and sits on 9 acres of land, mostly wooded. Limited neighbors allow large groups to just enjoy each other and themselves without disturbing anyone. I come from a very large family and we can get pretty loud just talking, not to mention the music. No worries about that here.
