About this property

Adventurers' Delight and best kept secret in Trinity Bay!

The scenery of Southport is spectacular and the house is pretty good too! It is a redesigned general store, now artist studio. Once described as a "New York loft" it is both traditional and sophisticated. The upper floor has large windows facing south towards the water, bringing lots of light into the ten foot ceiling space. It is furnished with comfort and cozy in mind. Through the use of lighting and canvas the space becomes multi purpose with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a dining table, a fireplace and a bathroom.
A beautifully decorated lower level has everything you need for convenience: a master bedroom, fully equipped kitchen, dining area, TV corner and bathroom.
Southport is a working harbour where fishing boats tie up at the community wharf - visitors can often find cod and shellfish here.

community to see pure ocean, cliffs and sky!

Great place to stay!

Loved this beautiful home, it had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The people in the community were very friendly, a nice man brought us fresh cod, it was delicious. The owner is very nice and provided information on what to do in the area. Her fresh bread and jam were very good. The Friday night outdoor party was fun, the musicians were awesome!

Great memories!

This was a dream come true for my husband - staying in a small fishing village and chumming with the locals. Going over the weekend was great as we could check out the Friday night party at the shed and also go fishing for cod. Hubby found a friend to take us out fishing and for a boat ride. He and our son then learned to clean their fish for our own fish fry. My daughter was in her glory having access to Peggy’s craft supplies. A glue gun, sparkles, and paint - what else could a ten year old ever want! Any sparkles you may find in the house - courtesy of her crafting. My daughter and I also spent happy times searching for beach glass at the rocky beach in the village. There is lots of beach glass to be found! Peggy provided dinner for us our first night. We had enough left overs to accompany our fish dinner the next night. Drinking water is provided (water cooler). Don’t drink the tap water - hubby made me tea from the tap water and I felt it! Southport was the perfect break for some downtime on a busy trip across Newfoundland. Great memories!

This place is magic

This was my second time staying here and I adore it. Peggy is so wonderful. The house is comfortable and beautiful and the village is picturesque. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the utensils, etc. that you’ll need. The locals are very friendly. I plan to return every summer.

A Wonderful Stay!!

We had a wonderful stay at Harbour Couture! The house was perfect for our family of five, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area! Peggy left so much helpful information about nearby trails... our favorites were Hearts Ease Beach and Jack Baker's Hill - the views were incredible! We wouldn't hesitate a bit to recommend this place. And Peggy and Viv are truly delightful people, too! We are so glad we had the chance to meet and visit with them!

Lovely, welcoming and relaxing stay - Exceeded our expectations

Many thanks Peggy for your warm Newfoundland hospitality and making sure our stay in the Southport & Gooseberry Cove communities was an unforgettably terrific experience. We appreciate the yummy homemade bread and jam that awaited our arrival, the helpful pointers/maps for hikes, kayak paddles and berry picking spots. We also loved sharing stories with you and Viv over a drink or two, as well as seeing you both out on the Hearts Ease Beach Trail. Harbour Couture was a great place to feel at home - eclectic, well appointed, comfortable and with everything we needed.

HARBOUR COUTURE SOUTHPORT NEWFOUNDLAND Peggy gave us a warm welcome and the facility was clean cosy and greatly exceeded our expectations. The residents of Southport and Gooseberry Cove are truly remarkable demonstrating the essence of true Newfoundland hospitality. Wonderful!!

We stayed at Harbour Couture for 3 nights in late June 2018. What a wonderfully eclectic accomodation. We felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. Peggy is a fantastic host and provided us with lots of information on things to do and places to go. She also left us a delicious love of homemade bread and raspberry jam! Unfortunately we were not able to attend the local gathering on Friday night but we did have a fantastic boat tour from the harbour in Gooseberry Cove with Mike. We also took a daytrip to Trinity, Elliston and Buena Vista. Loved seeing the puffins in their natural habitat. Thanks so much Peggy. Hope we can return somtime in the future. Ron and Mary

Little piece of heaven

Peggy welcomed us with fresh baked cookies!! The house is charming and our family of four was able to spread out and relax. Peggy is an amazing artist and welcomed us to even use her art supplies!! Our last night was the day before the start of cod season and we were invited to dance and eat in the fishing hut next to us with the locals. Peggy has rubber boots in all adult and kid sizes for exploring the beaches. We wore them every day :) What a memorable trip for our family!! Thank you Peggy and Viv for your hospitality and warmth. Relaxing and picturesque.

Great place to get away from the city! We had rain for 4 out of 6 days but Harbour Couture is so nice it was a pleasure to be inside! Spending time in front of the wood stove, listening to the wind and rain against the windows, enjoying cozy days surrounded by nice art and immaculate surroundings and good book and each other. Highlights include Local hikes-Hearts ease beach and others, further abroad at arnolds cove and Skirwink. Enjoyed the history of the area and the scenery of Picturesque Southport. Highly Recommend.

Simply spectacular

I waited two years to visit here after seeing a photo and falling in love with it. It was worth the wait. It is my fifth trip to Newfoundland and this stay was one of the highlights of all five trips. The house is beautiful and interesting, Peggy and Viv are so warm and funny, the village is picturesque and the locals very friendly. I will never, ever forget it. Simply the best.

Newfoundland at its best.

What a wonderful, quirky place Harbour Couture is! The apt exceeded all our expectations, which was difficul as they were based on all the positive reviews we read before booking. The upstairs holds a treasure trove of eclectic memorabilia, huge windows that overlook the bay, and the craft table kept our kids busy every evening as they fashioned art of their own from the beach treasures they found. The lower apt and kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed to cook for the family. There were more than enough couches to flake out and read, or just relax. Beds comfy too. I also appreciated the CDs of local musicians which were also available. Walks to Little Hearts Ease beach and Blow Me Down Hill were as described. Fantastic. Peggy was a gracious host, and we were grateful for the welcoming treat, hand drawn maps, and info booklet.....etc etc. She seemed genuinely interested in our well-being and took time to get to know us. Above and beyond. Finally, the people of Southport were friendly and welcoming - eager to show off their town and its history. We were invited fishing (an offer we accepted), caught a bucketful of cod, which was cleaned and filetted for us and made for a great final meal. It was also wicked to watch the commercial fishing boats in action bringing in their hauls of Capelin. Honestly, I don't this this review is effusive enough, but it'll have to do. I really want to recommend this rental to everyone, and tell all my friends, but it was so good, I have to admit, I would like the place to remain a secret, you know? Thank you Peggy for offering up Harbour Couture for rental! We hope to be back one day!

We aim to return

This "outport loft" in the middle of a small but active fishing community is ideal for a family with children. Between the restored shop upstairs and the comfortable, well-equipped apartment downstairs, the visitor only needs to stock in a few groceries to have everything required for a week or two of carefree relaxation. The hiking trails nearby are spectacular, providing grand views of Trinity Bay and Random Island. Peggy and Viv offer a warm welcome, and if the visitor is lucky, the hosts might come round bearing bread or berries or wine. It's hard to beat all of that.

Amazing vacation home, super nice people, real new Newfoundland experience, Highly recommend

We are a group of 7 people with 3 preteens stayed for 3 nights. We had an incredible experience in Southport. It is good for all ages. Everyone here are so nice which make us fall in love this small village right away. The owner invited us to kayak around the harbour and hikes to Jack Baker's Hill and view the nature swimming pool, pristine Lambert's Pond...The nice fishermen offered to take us out for fishing. We all experienced real newfoundland working fishing harbour life.We really regret not booking longer time here. We will come back again. Southport!!! Thank you everyone in the village.

The real Newfoundland!

We loved our time at Harbour Couture. The accommodations were so unique and interesting and had everything we needed. Peggy was a great host, and we loved meeting the locals and feeling like we were in "real" Newfoundland. We loved our whole trip, but this was our favourite spot. Everyone was so friendly and made us feel so welcome. I would definitely recommend checking out this unique experience while you're in the area!

Amazing Second visit to Southport!

This was my families second visit to Harbour Couture and once again it exceeded our expectations. Peggy is wonderful and her little gem in Southport is incredible. We were welcome with an amazing soda bread and jam which we devoured. The home is situated on the corner of a quiet and peaceful road with the water at your door. My girls spent their days fishing (Peggy has fishing rods to use) and just enjoying the outdoors. And on rainy days or just some down time they spent their time going through Peggy's stash of crafts. They loved her place! We all did. We went on a couple of hikes which Peggy details in her beautiful and fun hand drawn maps. She has heaps of information on the area and things to see and do. While we were there we were fortunate to attend an unveiling of an historical storyboard (created by Peggy) and join the community in a talk about the history of the beach and go on a great hike. Peggy's place is beautiful inside and out but I think the greatest part of Harbour Couture and Southport is its people. From Peggy and Viv to the Avery Family - we were welcome with open arms. It's a place we will not soon forget. Hoping to go back for a third visit.
