The Neighborhood:
"The neighborhood is recognized as a diverse, trendy, hip area and is known for its acceptance and tolerance of all people. You can enjoy walking to nearby restaurants, boutiques, pubs, bars, shops and grocery stores. The area is easy to explore by walking, taking public transportation or accessing nearby freeways. The neighborhood is a safe, well visited area that makes one feel comfortable to get out and take advantage of the night life.
Downtown and Convention Center is a short 10 minute scooter/uber/car ride down the hill, so avoid the noisy hotels of the Gaslamp for our little enclave:) Hillcrest is the best place to be in San Diego- cutting edge and happening, yet quiet and peaceful... It has blossomed over the past decade into one of the hippest, most happening communities in all of San Diego and is known for its tolerance, youthfulness, culture, and diversity as well as numerous locally-owned businesses, including restaurants, cafés, bars, clubs, trendy thrift-stores, and other independent specialty stores. Hillcrest also has two major hospitals that serve the area and many medical offices. Hillcrest has a high population density compared to many other neighborhoods in San Diego, and is an older neighborhood which has gone through gentrification. Many streets are lined with trees. There are Craftsman homes, Spanish beauties, and Mid-Century modern apartment buildings. The community is considered one of the most desirable neighborhoods to live and own in San Diego County, and is bound by Mission Hills to the northwest, Bankers Hill, Balboa Park, and downtown to the south, University Heights to the north, and North Park to the east. Balboa Park is a short walk away! A large ridge overlooking San Diego Bay borders the neighborhood to the west.
Close by and walking distance are everything you could need i.e. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, RiteAid, Walgreen, happy hour spots like Papalecco, and Urban Mo's; and amazing morning spots like Peet's, Bread et Cie, and other incredible restaurants like Hane Sushi, Hash House, Martinis above 4th-just ask around:)"
Getting Around:
Walking is highly recommended! Local freeways are within easy access. San Diego's public transport system is called MTS and is available nearby (check the transit tab in Google Maps). Uber/Lyft is readily accessible within the neighborhood at all times of the day and night. There is free street parking as well but can be difficult to find depending on time of day. We recommend extra vehicles using SpotHero or SpotAngels for cheap additional parking.
