The Neighborhood:
"The neighborhood is recognized as a diverse, trendy, hip area and is known for its acceptance and tolerance of all people. You can enjoy walking to nearby restaurants, boutiques, pubs, bars, shops and grocery stores. The area is easy to explore by walking, taking public transportation or accessing nearby freeways. The neighborhood is a safe, well visited area that makes one feel comfortable to get out and take advantage of the night life.
Downtown and Convention Center is a short 10 minute scooter/uber/car ride down the hill, so avoid the noisy hotels of the Gaslamp for our little enclave:) Hillcrest is the best place to be in San Diego- cutting edge and happening, yet quiet and peaceful... It has blossomed over the past decade into one of the hippest, most happening communities in all of San Diego and is known for its tolerance, youthfulness, culture, and diversity as well as numerous locally-owned businesses, including restaurants, cafés, bars, clubs, trendy thrift-stores, and other independent specialty stores. Hillcrest also has two major hospitals that serve the area and many medical offices. Hillcrest has a high population density compared to many other neighborhoods in San Diego, and is an older neighborhood which has gone through gentrification. Many streets are lined with trees. There are Craftsman homes, Spanish beauties, and Mid-Century modern apartment buildings. The community is considered one of the most desirable neighborhoods to live and own in San Diego County, and is bound by Mission Hills to the northwest, Bankers Hill, Balboa Park, and downtown to the south, University Heights to the north, and North Park to the east. Balboa Park is a short walk away! A large ridge overlooking San Diego Bay borders the neighborhood to the west.
Close by and walking distance are everything you could need i.e. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, RiteAid, Walgreen, happy hour spots like Papalecco, and Urban Mo's; and amazing morning spots like Peet's, Bread et Cie, and other incredible restaurants like Hane Sushi, Hash House, Martinis above 4th-just ask around:)"

Getting Around:
Walking is highly recommended! Local freeways are within easy access. San Diego's public transport system is called MTS and is available nearby (check the transit tab in Google Maps). Uber/Lyft is readily accessible within the neighborhood at all times of the day and night. There is free street parking as well but can be difficult to find depending on time of day. We recommend extra vehicles using SpotHero or SpotAngels for cheap additional parking.

Other Things to Note:
Before we can confirm any booking, we do need to know:
1. What brings you into town?
2. How many people will be staying at the home?
3. Do you expect any visitors, if so how many?

This apartment does have a designated parking space! Designated spot in the driveway (in front of garage door on the left when pulling into driveway), please do not cover entirety of the sidewalk, or you may pick up a $60 parking ticket. There is FREE street parking or if you need to reserve a spot there a great websites called SpotHero and SpotAngels.

We do not allow early luggage drop offs or for guests to leave luggage, if you need to drop off luggage early or to leave luggage late there is a great site called luggage hero where you can drop them off.

San Diego’s weather is perfect 90% of the year. Most guest use fans and open windows and older buildings in SD usually do not have A/C. Even most bars and restaurants only use fans!

$50 for early check in (VERY RARE). This is only if we do not have a guest the night before (not available on weekends).

We do NOT allow late check out. There is a charge of $25/10 min after 11AM.

$500 fine per night for any unauthorized pets. This listing is not pet friendly!

We may require an ID and/or signed Rental Agreement or a refundable deposit prior to check in.

Simple convenience
Super location in Hillcrest with easy access to local dining, Balboa Park/Zoo and on/off 163. Simple, clean accommodations. Hosts were very responsive and helpful - we had an unfortunate experience where the automated messaging system was sending incomplete information (software bug) - the only reason for a lower rating, but hopefully fixed for future clients.

It was OK
Host kept asking me to sign an agreement but the eSignature would not work. It was a huge pain. Then they never sent me the code to access the property. Had to ask multiple times. Then they don't tell you where the actual entrance is. The building is a 4+ unit building that is not clearly marked. Parking is questionable. It can only fit a compact car at best. The building has no heat so beware if you go during colder months. Not sure about AC either! The place is not in the best condition. Also, there are people who seem to live above the unit and there was a lot of noise. In the end, I probably would have chose another place had I known all this before booking it.

This property is spacious and in a convenient location. But renter beware, if there during colder weather, there is no central heat, only 2 space heaters. Also sounds from the apartment above are very audible as well as steady highway sounds. The owners could improve this property through small upgrades, such as providing hangers in the closets, more towel racks in the bathroom, doing a more complete repair to past damage to doors in the bathroom, adding a way to have more counter space in the kitchen. The space was relatively clean, except for the fan in the bathroom which appeared to have not had a deep clean for some time, and may have contributed to my partners asthma episodes. The owners could also improve their communication. For example by providing detail as to where the apartment is in the building, and when and how to dispose of trash. Overall, for the price, the apartment is passable but not notable.

Great location!
Communication was great from beginning to end. Responses were incredibly quick. Owner was helpful with every step and any questions. Check-in and out was a breeze. The location was excellent, very central and easy access to highways. The kitchen doesn't have much counter space and limited cookware so it would be slightly challenging to do any serious meal prep. However it has all the basics and served us very well. The new stove and fridge were great. Would stay here again.

Great Location
The good: Great location, centrally located to just about everything in the city. Lots of food/shopping options within walking distance. Nice place for the price. The bad (well, not bad, but not ideal): Upstairs neighbors can be noisy. Luckily those staying upstairs had little kids that were only noisy during the day while we were there. The linens could be cleaner. Comforters had not been laundered between visitors. Overall, great place to stay and convenient to everything. Hosting company is very easy to deal with and very responsive.
