This was the only hotel available in Asheville at the time due to the rest being occupied by people displaced by the storm and workers cleaning up after the hurricane. Positives: central location; relatively quiet, room was basically clean. Negatives: the property is a mess, the pictures make the place look a lot nicer than it is; questionable characters hanging around; parking lot dirty and difficult to navigate; poor lighting; littered premises. If you need a basic place to stay it will do in a pinch but if you have a choice, stay elsewhere.
Basic place with parking and reasonable price. Clean room and walkable to most downtown spots

Great location right downtown and walkable distance to everything. Parking was free which was a bonus to not have to drive around downtown.
The hotel is old and very basic, don't expect any updates. You get what you pay for. However, the room wa clean and we experienced no issues and the check in staff was friendly.
If you're looking for a short stay that's convenient to downtown it's a good budget option.

Clean and affordable place to lay your head for a night
We were looking for something close to the downtown area where we were seeing a show. This hotel was perfect! Walking into the room brought me back to my childhood roadtrips. The room was clean and cozy. The hotel has some aging and could use some TLC but it was perfect for our one night stay.

Disliked: Communication, location
Too much street noise
Too much drag racing noise of cars and motorcycles at night until 2 or 3am. Swimming pool wasn’t operating and no mention of this at time of booking. No extra blanket in the room if you got cold in the middle of the night, etc.
It was honestly a really great stay. The weekend was beautiful and we had a mountain facing room which made it even better. So much is within walking distance, it’s a very walkable city. The staff was friendly and patient and we had no problems. The elevator was a bit odd, but outside of that it was a wonderful place. We would absolutely stay here again.
Location is perfect for walking through Asheville and to RAD. Building is so old and in desperate need of upgrades. Don’t think we will stay there again.

It was nice and clean, great price and they make it easy to bring pet.
Have stayed at this hotel over 10 times in the past 2 years. This is the first time I was asked for my companions ID (which I happened to have in my wallet b/c sh wasn’t carrying her purse) but it gave off a bad vibe. Like she was waiting in the car. It was just coincidental that I had it and I apparently couldn’t have checked in without it

Street noise between 10:00 pm and midnight was pretty bad. Had we known we would have requested a room on the pool side. Location and parking were outstanding! Price was good compared to other downtown locations.
Please don’t stay at the Downtown Inn in Asheville!
Day 1 was fairly quiet. We were in town for work. Not there much. Day 2 was insane! There was construction or something going on with massive loud banging from 4-10 pm right beside our room. The manager told us at 7 that they were wrapping up. As soon as the banging stopped from the construction, things got much worse. A guest was hurling off of the balcony for about an hour, people yelling and screaming at each other till after 2am. Fear not, housekeeping was eager to kick us out prior to checkout time. They did have a decent waffle per my husband. Never never never!!!!
We really liked the location as you can walk to a wide range of retail and restaurants. However, fair warning that this is a worn-out property and a renovation is sorely needed. The employees are not a happy bunch to the point of being surly. Sadly, this could be a gem in downtown Asheville but at the time just an unpolished rock.
