The Space:
The entire space is 744 sq. ft and we have made the most of the "cozy" layout. The living room has a smaller footprint. We decided to use more space for a reasonable set of stairs up to the loft instead of a simple ladder to allow easier access between the two floors. The ceilings are tall and the living room gets great light. You will need to shift or move pieces under the stairs if you pull out the sofa bed. We often have movie night with five people but the space is not set up to host larger gatherings.
The unit has new countertops, appliances, tile backsplash, shelving, extended island and most everything from cookware to utensils. It is smaller but fully-functional. We love cooking there and hope you will too! We extended the peninsula and use the four stools around it for family meals.
The kitchen is open to the living room. The main floor also has one bedroom with vaulted ceilings and a closet. There is a full bathroom on the main floor.
The second floor has a private bedroom with vaulted ceilings and a large closet. The second floor bathroom has a large bath with jacuzzi tub and skylight.
There is a front deck with seating and one private parking spot if you bring a car.
Other Detail:
The building is older but was constructed well and is maintained with care by the HOA. The condo is in a small community with many full-time residents. Quiet hours start at 9pm and neighbors are considerate of one another.
Tons of rustic mountain charm comes with some quirks. Please make note when accessing the loft. The incredible structural beams that run through the space also limit head height at the top of the stairs and when descending so please watch your head. Once you are in the loft the vaulted ceilings bring plenty of height.
Most of Vail runs parallel to I-70, so you may hear traffic noise depending on the time of day and which room you are in. If you leave windows open, we suggest using the fans provided to minimize noise. We also provide a white noise machine. You may hear sounds from adjacent units. You may also smell anything from cooking to marijuana from the neighbors. Residents also care for their places and the HOA does great work to keep the exterior in beautiful condition. There may be construction or yard maintenance noise.
Hot water is served from a central boiler in the building and may take a bit of time to warm up but will get very hot.
For winter stays: It's common that 1" to 1' of snow may accumulate over the course of 24 hours. The HOA does well to remove snow from the common boardwalk but may not have the capacity to clean off the stairs up to the unit. There is a shovel on the deck for your use. At the end of the boardwalk in each direction there is also a black bin that contains salt if you wish to sprinkle some on stairs to help with ice melt.
The heating system warms the place quickly but is older and may bang or knock at times as pipes expand.
For summer stays: As noted in the listing, like many others properties in Vail, this condo does not have air conditioning. We find it best to keep the window treatments closed during the hottest part of the day and use the supplied fans with windows open in the evening to draw cool air in and push hot air out from the loft.
