Cute Winter Getaway
This cottage was just the right place for me and my boyfriend. The cottage was nice, clean, warm, and organized when we arrived. We had no issues during our stay and the home owner was more than nice and inviting. Small mishap with the washing machine at the very last minute but the home owner offered to dry it for us and ship it back to me! :D Best stay yet and I’d love to come back in the future.

Great Place to Access Multiple Ski Resorts
Mary's cottage is fantastic. Sugarbush and Killington are 20 to 40 minutes away. Stowe and Okemo are about an hour. Waitsfield is about 20 minutes and has good shopping/resturaints. You'll definitely want 4WD in the winter.

Cozy Stay in Vermont
This was the perfect little cottage for our girls trip to Vermont from the south to see the fall foliage! Very cozy, extremely clean, and tucked away for privacy. We did not spend much time here since we were exploring towns but on our last day we took a walk down to the pond on the property and it was stunning and so serene. Mary was so sweet and made sure upon our arrival that we were settled in. House had everything we needed to be comfortable. Will absolutely stay here again if we venture back up one day.

Off the beaten path and quier
We stayed for 6 weeks enjoying the country wooded area. It had all the amenities to make our stay comfortable. Some might say it is out of the way, but that only added to the peace and quiet. We were only a 15 to 20 minute ride Rochester to the South or Warren, Sugarbush and the Mad River Valley to the North. Our hostess made us feel welcome.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at this property. The listing accurately describes the space. We enjoyed kayaking and hanging out at the pond. The property is centrally located and was close to a lot of things to explore. Mary was very friendly and provided all the information needed to enjoy our stay.

Cottage in Granville
The place is listed as 500 sq ft, but space is used very efficiently so it appears much larger than it is. The cottage and property are clean and well taken care of. The backyard has lots of activities for families. The sunset are stars are beautiful. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing time here. Mary is a gracious host. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to unwind
The location of this cottage is perfect for anyone wanting to go out and explore. It’s located about 40 min to an hour from places to explore, with waterfalls and little towns along the way. Mary was wonderful, we thankfully didn’t need anything from her during our stay, but we always knew she was available. My family of four (including a 2 and 4 year old) stayed in the cottage. The boys slept in the futon on the main floor and used the loft to play. We swam in the pond and the boys loved playing in the dirt and stone with their trucks. There’s kayaks available, a zip line, a hammock and many other games/things to do outside right on the property. We definitely will be contacting Mary to stay here again if we decide to come back to Vermont!

What an amazing place. The location was secluded and private and the views spectacular. Mary was right next door which, to us, was great because she was a treasure-trove of information and a very kind and gracious host. The pond and landscape were very neat and nicely kept. Plenty of outdoor activities to do - kayaking, volleyball, soccer, a row boat, a fire pit and places for short walks. It's perfect. We had two little kids (a 4 year old and a 10 month old), and both were entertained by the great outdoors. The home itself was just the right size. Overall, we had a great time in a great location.

Peaceful Cottage
We had such a lovely stay here! The cottage itself is clean, cozy and perfect for a family stay. It is quiet, surrounded by green, private (even with the host's house not too far). There are so many fun activities down by the pond and picnic area that you don't really need to leave. But if you do venture out it's not too far for some waterfalls, hikes, and even yummy tacos in Waitsfield about 20 mins away. It was too cold during our stay to make use of the kayaks and swimming in the pond but we enjoyed roasting some marshmallows over the fire pit, reading and playing in the hammock, tried the zip line and a few lawn activities. Up at the cottage I enjoyed reading and doing yoga on the sunny private back deck, My son loved the sleeping loft and we all enjoyed heating the cool nights with the cozy fire in the gas stove. Mary was very approachable and helpful. We hope to come again!!

Liar Owner
My stay lasted less than 24 hours. Since my issues, the owner has changed the listing. When I booked, it was not clear that she would be sharing the property with my family and I. Very uncomfortable to arrive to a vacation spot, thinking you will have privacy, and learn you have to share the space with a complete stranger and her dog. The "private lake" was really a glorified pond and was full of leeches. The video and pictures were very misleading. My children came out covered in them when they tried to go swimming. With her on the property and with swimming not on the table, we decided to leave 1st thing the following AM, even though we were booked for the week. Mary seemed very nice and understanding, and promised send me a check for her portion of the booking fee if we did not contact VRBO. You probably see where this is going... After a few weeks, I tried to contact Mary but she was a unresponsive. VRBO informed me that there was nothing they could do since I did not call them immediately (at Mary's request!). I tried disputing the charges through my credit card company, but they could not do anything either. Mary lied to VRBO, stating that I was "aggressive and scary" and that I left the apartment a huge mess on purpose. Both statements are bald-faced lies. If you do not mind leeches or sharing a property with an unethical liar, book away.

Great cabin for Sugarbush ski trip
My two friends and I (30's) rented the cabin for a long weekend and it had everything we needed. Very clean, organized and comfortable living space. Mary was very accomodating and lives next door should guests need anything. 4WD/AWD needed to get there via unpaved access road.

Great cozy spot to help us through the winter!
We spent a little work-cation up here and really enjoyed the time. Mary was super responsive and welcoming. High speed wifi worked great for our working days. We loved the proximity to ski areas (mostly sugarbush, but even went down to killington for a day). We also had fun snowshoeing on trails in the woods behind the house! Definitely would come back.

About the host

Hosted by Mary Falcon

Host profile image
Hi—For the past two years I rented my guest cottage to two dear friends but now I'm back on VRBO! Here's the story of who I am and how I—a born and bred New Yorker—ended up in Vermont. To briefly escape the hubbub of New York in 2002, I spent two weeks with my best cousin in Vermont. For months after I returned to NY I dreamed of living in Vermont. A year later, thanks to the Internet, I was able to make my dream come true. I bought the property right next door to my cousins place and moved to Vermont for good. A 25-year veteran of the higher education publishing industry, I no longer have to live where the company I work for is located. I telecommute.

Why they chose this property

I love participating in the small town life of Granville. And I love it up here by my lake —clear and blue in summer, iced over in winter—in the fresh Vermont air, among the snow covered mountains and hiking trails. But what I love most about my life here is that I can work and vacation in the same place. In the summer I can swim in my private secluded lake, work in my vegetable and flower gardens, go for long walks, hang out with my cousin and her horses, and still put in a respectable day’s work at the computer. I work longer hours in the winter, but still get plenty of exercise walking, show shoeing, and snow shoveling. My son and his family love it here in summer, but even more in winter as they are avid skiers. So I always seem to have family visits on the horizon.

What makes this property unique

In the picturesque area of Granville, Vermont, you'll find an amazing escape surrounded by natural beauty. If a peaceful and secluded retreat is the vibe you want for your vacation, this is the perfect place to be. Nearby towns like Rochester and Waitsfield provide convenient access to a variety of shops and eateries, allowing my guests to explore local culture and cuisine. Whether you're craving outdoor adventures or a relaxing getaway, Granville and its neighboring towns offer the best blend of serenity and convenience for a memorable stay.
