Cardinal Cottage - Child & Pet Friendly near the Hocking Hills & Lake Hope

Enjoy perfect comfort at the Cardinal Cottage! Always immaculately clean and well-stocked with your needs in mind. Start your day by taking advantage of the fully stocked coffee bar before hiking at Hocking Hills State Park and end it by relaxing in the hot tub. Or perhaps you'd like to visit Lake Hope State Park and then enjoy roasting marshmallows at our hilltop fire ring?

Cardinal Cottage is designed to evoke a lake house feel as a nod to the lakes of Vinton County. It's fresh, clean, and comfortable. The living room has lots of plush seating and a killer DVD collection as well as a Smart TV with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ available for our guests. Feel free to log into any other streaming services you may have.

The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with lots of pillows and a door that leads right to the hot tub. It also has an electric fireplace with a mantle made from reclaimed wood.

There's an amazing bunk room done in a woodland theme to appeal to children or the young at heart. Inside you'll find a little pretend campfire and tree for fun. The bunk room has a full sized bed and a bunk bed so there's room for 4 people to rest up for tomorrow's adventures.

We have a fully stocked kitchen with full-sized appliances plus other necessities like a microwave, toaster, hand mixer, etc. It's easy to cook a full meal here and then wash up in our lovely, vintage enamel sink. Or grill on the covered front porch with the propane grill. Whatever you're in the mood for!

Dogs welcome! If you bring your dog, please clean up after them inside and out. Dogs must be kenneled anytime they're unsupervised. Keep them leashed when outside please.

We have ample parking available for several cars. You can even bring your boat if you like. Lake Rupert is just a few miles down the road and has very nice boat ramps and excellent fishing.

We are perfectly situated for you to take advantage of everything the area has to offer. We're close to Hocking Hills State Park, Lake Hope State Park, and Zaleski State Forest. You can kayak on Raccoon Creek, go horse back riding at Uncle Bucks Stable, visit Ohio University in Athens, or go to Chillicothe to visit the Adena Mansion or explore the Hopewell Indian Mounds.

Great little place for our family of four. Wouldn't bring many more people than that. Owner was super responsive and flexible. Tornadoes were going through and we were able to push our reservation back a day. Hot tub was great to relax in after hiking all day.

Family Get away
We enjoyed our stay at the Cardinal House. It was perfect for our little family. Logan(8yr) and Joey(4 yr) love their little room. Everything was perfect. We will definitely be back. We visited Alma Lake, only 13 min for the house and adventured to the Stone house and Cedar Falls. The hot tub was exceptional. Hight recommened!

Nice cozy place; cute, clean, plenty of kitchen ware, etc. Hot tub was enjoyable and very private. Only drawback to this rental was you had to go through the master bedroom to get to the only bathroom, which we don’t remember this being stated in the description. But we still really enjoyed our whole time there and it was roomy enough for some of our family in the area to come and hang out with us each day. We would definitely stay there again.

Peaceful getaway
The house is very small but nice. It has nicer/more amenities than the previous places we have stayed. Its a bit of a drive to get to the hiking trails or into Logan. Its a beautiful drive but it does take a while (30-45 minutes approx).

Family Birthday vacation
This was our first group trip with my best friend's little boy and our son, and we had a blast! We explored two state parks, enjoyed some delicious ice cream got to enjoy the birds and wildlife around the property. Our husbands enjoyed the firepit and us ladies enjoyed the hot tub. A Great Place to Stay!
My husband and I stayed three nights at the Cardinal House. It was so cute, clean and comfortable. The hot tub was awesome! We only wish we hadn’t been so busy and could have spent more time relaxing in it. We would definitely recommend this property and would love to stay there again when we’re in the area.

The Cardinal house is perfect! From the cleanliness to the cute little coffee bar! The location was peaceful and not far from local restaurants and grocery. Every need is thought of! This place is adorable. The hot tub was great and everything was there that we needed other than foil for the grill. We left some for the next people. I would recommend anyone to stay at the Cardinal House!! We had a relaxing time away from our normal lives and surroundings.

I'm a married and have, like, a thousand kids (well, 4, but they're all boys so it feels like more). My family and I vacationed in the Hocking Hills for years before deciding to move here from NE Ohio. I really love designing spaces for people to be the perfect backdrop to their memories. Making everything just SO before my guests arrive makes me genuinely happy. And this place! Even though it's a rural area, there are festivals of some kind nearly every weekend, tons of caves and lakes to explore, etc., etc., etc.

My name is Rachel. I've been a professional host for 5 years now and I feel like I'm just getting started.

Why they chose this property

Cardinal House is the perfect romantic retreat from the world! We want you to enjoy your stay with us and have made sure you'll feel that everything you could possibly want has been provided just for you including: multiple fireplaces, WiFi, a hot tub on a spacious private deck surrounded by woods, a hilltop fire ring, propane grill, and a fully stocked coffee bar!

While Cardinal House is perfect for couples, we wanted to make sure that children had a place just for them here too. Browse through our gallery photos to see the woodland bunkroom where up to four people can rest up for tomorrow's adventures! It has a small pretend campfire too just for fun.
