About this property

Stunning Lake Views ~ Historic Peaceful Retreat Only 10 Minutes to Holland

Relax with the entire family at this peaceful retreat with beach access to the shore of Lake Michigan right in your back yard. Built by the president of Chris-Craft in the 50's, this home was constructed to look and feel like the cabin of a ship. Fully updated, it still retains its rich history & unique features. Located just north of Holland, you are close to all of the attractions that bring families to the area... beaches, trails, shops, and dining. The backyard offers a huge space for family fun with a stunning backdrop of Lake MI, a beautiful deck, and 60 stairs that give private access to the lakeshore.

Enjoy your visit to Holland in our single-story, fully renovated lakeshore cottage. There are five bedrooms, a full kitchen, dining area, family room, 2 full bathrooms, laundry room and a four-season sun porch. We offer an open floor plan that allows groups to gather in comfort and style.

BEDROOMS

Groups of up to 10 people can sleep comfortably in our home. There are 2 bedrooms with comfortable queen-size beds and 3 bedrooms with built-in bunk beds in each. All bed and bathroom linens are provided. Upper bunks will have fresh linens at the foot of each bed. All lower bunks and queen beds will be dressed with fresh linens.

BATHROOMS & LAUNDRY

There are two full bathrooms in the house – both are located off of the main hallway and are shared among the five bedrooms. They are fully remodeled and have walk in showers. We've got you covered with towels, soap, hair dryers, makeup mirrors and iron/ironing board. There’s a washer and dryer in the main floor laundry room complete with detergent in case you need it!

RELAX AND CHILL

The family room has ample comfortable seating and a 50-inch Smart TV that has streaming access for Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. (with your own logins). We have a large four-season sun porch and rear patio with Adirondack chairs and fire pit for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful lake views and sunsets. We have a deck at the edge of the sand dune to enjoy the stunning views as well. Of course, walking the beach of Lake Michigan is the favorite pass-time for many and you can access the beach by the deck stairs (approximately 60 steps) in our back yard.

DINING IN

The fully-stocked kitchen has all of the essentials to cook and enjoy meals together. There's a refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, cookware, dishes, utensils, drinking glasses, wine glasses, wine opener and more. We’ve also provided a standard 14-cup AND a single cup Keurig coffee maker with a starter supply of coffee & sweeteners as we know how important this morning ritual is. The dining table off of the kitchen and family room makes mealtime cozy and fun.

WORK

If you're in town for work or just need to stay caught up on email, rest assured we've got high-speed WiFi and two laptop friendly workspaces for your use – on the sun porch and in the family room.

FAMILIES WELCOME

Families are always welcome in our home! The washer & dryer will certainly come in handy. We also have a basket of toys and some board games to add to your family fun!

View and access to Lake Michigan wonderful!

Great property. View of Lake Michigan was outstanding. Access to beach great too. Property had everything one needed for a week’s stay. Located close to good restaurants, lighthouses, shopping, downtown, tulip farm, farm markets and all attractions in Western Michigan. And yes some rooms did resemble a Chris Craft!!! Thanks for a fun stay at the beach!

Girls Trip!

Great property! The house was perfect and exceeded our expectations. We were enjoying a girls trip with 8 of us. Plenty of room and beds! So many amenities are provided for us to enjoy including fully stocked kitchen utilities, beach towels, and beach chairs. The beach is private and gorgeous!! The deck is comfortable and perfect for star gazing. Really wish our stay was longer but the property was amazing for us.

Absolutely fabulous place!!

I can't say enough good things about this vrbo rental. The house is so fun and nostalgic! Super clean. And the views are amazing! Very well stocked with all amenities. The bedrooms were a little tight and there are a lot of stairs to get down to the beach (90 to be exact) but it is so worth it once you're on the beautiful beach! I would recommend the Captain's retreat to all!

Immaculately kept cabin

This home is a unique and wonderful piece of historic architecture. Starting with the front door, we were welcomed to a simpler time. The all-wood bunk rooms and dining area were so cool! The new deck was perfect for enjoying the Lake and sunsets. When I rent a Vrbo, I always try to leave the place a little nicer than when we found it. For example, at one place, I cleaned the inside of appliances, re-organized the kitchen drawers at another, and at one cottage, emptied and wiped out cabinets. (I guess I have a little OCD!) But my point is, there was literally nothing I could find to clean or organize at Lisa‘s place. Such a charming, immaculately kept cabin. Kudos to your cleaning crew and to your high standards in maintaining this VRBO. We, of course, also loved the incredible views and peace and quiet that this location affords. Thank you for helping us create a memorable vacation in Holland, MI!

About the host

I love to experience new cities and outdoor adventures. Biking, golf and hiking are some of my favorite outdoor sports that I often enjoy with my husband, Mark. We also enjoy taking in live music, art galleries, museums, locally owned restaurants, sporting events and unique cultural experiences. The cottage has been in my husband's family for many years. It has brought many happy memories to the family. I love that Vrbo allows people to connect and share their treasures with one another. As a host, I'd like to share a little of our lakeshore treasure, comfort, and hospitality with you.

Why they chose this property

We have enjoyed this cottage as a family getaway for many years. Now that our children are grown and living outside of Michigan, we use the cottage less and less for our personal use. We are happy to share it with guests so they can make lifelong family memories here as we have done.

What makes this property unique

The lake and cottage have a peace and tranquility that helps reset one's priorities in a life-giving way. We hope you will experience this when you come to visit.
