LaBri is the ultimate Northwoods retreat. LaBri means shelter or calm place in French, and you will understand why as you pull down the drive to an inviting one-level log cabin. The kids will run to the lakefront, passing a hammock strung between trees en route to the multiple watercraft lined up for their enjoyment. Kayaks, SUPs, canoes, and a 14-foot fishing boat await them, as well as a pontoon boat available for an additional rental fee.
Meanwhile, you will enter the living space to find a true Northwoods retreat. The kitchen is equipped with every modern appliance, including a Sub-Zero fridge, and the cabinets reveal every cooking and baking spice you may need during your stay. Two wood-burning fireplaces and a large screened-in porch will start to paint the picture of your time to come. Games for all ages are available, and the martini glasses stand proudly in the cabinet.
Serenity surrounds you as you listen to the haunting calls of the resident pair of loons zealously protecting a chick or two in the spring or early summer. Eagles circle above. Observe the multitude of wildlife, including birds, squirrels of many colors, otters, and the ever-present deer. Fill the bird feeder and watch from the kitchen window as the deer parade through at night.
Grab a sundowner in the gazebo and listen to the joyful laughter of your children playing in the lake. Muskies await the clever anglers, while the little anglers will find small fish all day long off the end of the dock.
The fire pit by the lake has hosted countless s'mores parties and awaits you. Remain quietly after the kids are gone, and you may be visited by the hoot of an owl.
The forest and trails surrounding LaBri offer endless hiking and biking in the summer, as well as snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. The slopes of Indianhead (Big Snow Resort) and Big Powderhorn mountains lie just 45 minutes to the north in the UP of Michigan.
