We hope you will enjoy a classic cottage morning when you stay with us! Imagine; the day breaks over the tree line, rays of sunshine illuminate the mist as it gently rises from perfectly calm water. You sip your coffee as a loon calls out and you decide it's the perfect moment to glide a kayak into the water for a morning paddle...or maybe, today, you grab your rod and cast off the dock in hopes to catch your largest bass yet!

Our quiet and peaceful cottage is located off a private laneway and surround by tall pines, oaks and maples. The cottage is positioned on a hill, uniquely close to the water giving you scenic views and privacy from our only neighbour who is set much further back. We have multiple seating areas to enjoy throughout the day - deck up at the cottage, down on the waterfront deck, the floating dock or around the fire pit. We have many fond memories of summers at the cottage and we hope you will have the same experience when you stay with us!

Making you as comfortable as possible is what we strive for. We follow COVID cleaning practices and are available at all times by email and phone if you have any questions or concerns. We provide fresh linens, bath towels, beach towels and toiletries (toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash). Our cottage is equipped with a UV water filtration system and is safe to drink. There is a propane BBQ, outdoor dining and firepit. Enjoy high speed internet, TV with Live & OnDemand channels, DVD player, board games, books, kids water toys, canoe, SUP, kayaks and pedal boat. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, dishes, pots/pans, utensils, toaster, drip coffee maker, kettle, blender, dish soap/towels, etc.

Halls Lake is located 2.5 hours from Toronto by car. The closest town is Minden (20 mins south) where you can purchase groceries, gas and supplies (Foodland, Valu-Mart, Beer Store, LCBO, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Gas, etc.) or Dorset (25 mins north).

Below are some activities you can explore during your stay with us! We are always here to help and answer any questions you might have during your stay.

If your looking for a local favourite, walk over to Marion's Fish & Chip shop and try her battered halibut, fresh cut fries and a Kawartha Dairy milk shake!

For those looking to connect with nature, there are walking trails close by and a short drive north is the Frost Center where nature enthusiasts can explore 9.5km of looped trails along with canoe rentals and water trails. Want to go higher? How about a hike up Dorset’s historic water tower for an amazing view of Lake of Bays. Or maybe the World’s Longest Canopy Walk at the Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve and while you are there howl with the wolves at the Wolf Center.

Lots for kids to do! Along with endless fun in the water and a nearby playground there is always something on the schedule at Abbey Gardens. They offer daily and weekly summer programs and workshops for kids and adults. Explore their gardens while learning about sustainable living, book a pony trek or a craft workshop. On your way back to the cottage, stop in at Haliburton Highlands Brewing company in Carnarvon (HWY 35 & 118) and pick up your favourite flavour to enjoy on the dock or around the campfire.

Fishing fans, bring your rods! Halls Lake offers bass, panfish, walleye, trout, and white perch. There is a public boat launch close by for those who have their own boat or rentals are available through Big Hawk Lake Marina.

Shopping enthusiasts, there are boutique stores, museums and local crafts to explore in and around Haliburton (25 mins) along with restaurants within driving distance. A few of our favourite local spots are Rhubarb Restaurant and The Peppermill (10 mins south in Carnarvon).

Golfers, we didn’t forget about you. There are a number of public courses within a 30 minute drive including Haliburton Highlands Golf Course, Lakeside Golf Club and Blairhampton Golf Club.

NOTE: For the safety and security of our guests and our property, we have 3 exterior cameras. The cameras monitor vehicular traffic coming in and out of the property over a public and shared laneway. The cameras are mounted on trees outside and do not face the cottage or any private areas. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.

Great week
I brought my son, his wife and my 15 year old grandson for the last week of August. We used the kayaks, paddle boost and SUP so everyone was happy. The cottage was lovely and the beds super comfortable. Everything we needed was supplied, better than most cottages we have rented. Everything was in good working order. Not t so much luck fishing this time around but had fun trying. Alison checked in in via email regularly. We would return to this cottage.

Beautiful cottage
We had a fantastic stay! The lake is incredible clean and warm, the best swimming lake we have been to in a long time. Rock entrance with sand bottom and no gross weeds. The cottage was really well appointed and exceptionally clean. Coffee on the deck was a highlight in the mornings with that view. Alison was super responsive and very helpful. We will absolutely be staying again. Thanks Alison!

We had a wonderful time at this cottage. We felt comfortable and at home from the moment we arrived. Watching the full moon rise while sitting by the firepit was a highlight. Alison, our host, was fantastic...communicative and full of great suggestions. We plan to be back.

Started out great but went downhill
Booked this late because we previously booked somewhere else and had a death in the family. Upon arrival, looked good. Nice day didn’t start cooking until 9….no propane. Luckily, host was able to bring by. Next day, awful weather, had to call host 2x because there was no water ☺️good part was host was always available, and good thing because we had to call multiple times. Last night there, not a good night. Pros, great location, Great Lake. Cons, even though host was available, shouldn’t need to contact in 48 hour stay. Not going to give all details. In the end, thankful I booked through VRBO, because they made everything better.

A Serene Escape Amidst Nature’s Splendor
Nestled deep within the woods of Algonquin Highlands, this lakeside property offers a tranquil retreat that seems like it’s straight out of a fairytale. The shimmering waters of the lake, juxtaposed with the maple trees, create a picturesque setting that is both breathtaking and calming. From the moment you set foot on the property, the melodious calls of local birds and the gentle rustle of leaves greet you. The property itself offers modern amenities ensuring a comfortable stay without compromising the rustic charm. The property, with its cozy interiors, perfectly complements the surroundings. Large windows ensure that you wake up to the sight of the sun reflecting off the lake, and the evenings are best spent by the wood fireplace, perhaps with a book in hand. For the adventurous at heart, the Algonquin Highlands hiking trails that challenge and delight and there’s no shortage of ways to connect with nature. However, the real charm of this property lies in the simpler moments – perhaps sipping your morning coffee on the wooden deck overlooking the water. The hostess(Alison) is a wonderful person who is always available at an arms length be it at late night for emergencies. The studio tour suggested by her was a hidden gem.

The View!
We had a great stay on Halls Lake. The cottage is situated just steps up from the lake, and the view was breathtaking from both inside or outside the cottage. We have travelled quite a bit in the North and can say that this was the cleanest, best equipped lodging we have ever encountered. Clean spaces, fresh linens, great appliances, and all the amenities you could ever use. There is very little you need to bring as it is all supplied as advertised . We appreciated the empty fridge and ample cupboard space for our own supplies. When we did encounter a small issue, Alison was there within the hour and fixed the problem. It was a very restful week surrounded by nature.

Beautiful End of Summer Getaway
We closed out our summer with this stunning cottage on beautiful Halls lake. Canoeing, fishing, swimming and bonfires don't even begin to sum up all of the family fun this place offered. Hosts were exceptional. Checked in just the right amount of times, left the cottage with everything you'd need and moving through the kitchen to prepare meals was literally seamless. Don't get me started on the beds, we literally had the most restful sleep with the most comfortable duvets ever. Neighbours are quiet and friendly too! .... We had such an amazing stay and would love to return! 10/10 would recommend! Thank you again for such an amazing weekend. P.S, don't sleep on the chip shop! They make an amazing halibut and chips and it's only a few mins away (heads up, cash only!)

Covert videotaping of guests ruined stay. Hope you weren't a guest like us that didn't know.
On checkout, when going into the storage room, we saw an active Blink module and found 1 camera well hidden outside. We contacted VRBO, who told us the host confirmed multiple cameras, and the host told VRBO it was an oversight and not an invasion of privacy and not to worry. I don't understand how multiple video cameras affixed to solid objects can be considered an oversight. We have yet to receive the videos, but the host seems to believe we should take her word that it's okay to videotape people without their knowledge. I would not recommend this property to anyone. The host has now updated the property description to say video cameras.

We booked this cottage last minute and we’re so happy at all the amenities. Beach towels. Kayaks, canoe, life jackets all provided. Had every dish/ pot you could need. So clean and open. Bedding was comfortable. 2 docks one stationary and one floating. Easy ladder in and out of the water. Great Lake location were you could jump in right off the dock. Water was clear and not very busy with boats. Will go back.

Algonquin Highlands -Halls Lake
The cottage was very well organized making it feel like your home away from home (cozy towels & bedding, linens, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, body cream, well-organized kitchen). The welcome binder answered all our questions. Alison, our host, was very friendly and great to work with. She came and replaced a heater when the one we had wasn't working. The location was perfect. We used the cottage as our home base and hiked local trails and the Hiway 60 Corridor into Algonquin Provincial Park to see the Fall colours. Alison was helpful with good hiking trail suggestions. We had a relaxing and enjoyable time even with the overcast cooler weather.

Great quiet and relaxing getaway with the family for the week. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. Everything was just as described and as shown in the photos. The lake is super clear, great for swimming. The best part had to be enjoying the incredible sunrise from the deck and seeing two loons swim by on our first morning. We believe Halls Lake is in the perfect location. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle that you are surrounded by nature but close enough to a number of towns that each offer their own unique experiences.
