Very comfortable, well located, lovely view

The apartment is as represented and was very comfortable for our four week stay. It is very well located, splitting the distance between the language school and the sea-front. The terrace is very nice and the view to the bay and the sea is mesmerizing.

Perfect introduction to the south of France.

The property was lovely and the location was perfect. Easy walking to groceries and libations as well as restaurants. The terrace made the stay. Morning coffee and evening drinks with local wine cheese and sausages. Beach was just a short walk away. And the welcoming flowers and wine ser the stage for a lovely stay.

Fabuleux Appartement

As a family of four we stayed in Eamon's apartment from the 1st - 10th August 24. We just couldn't fault it at all. We did book a taxi from the airport but it is possible to get to Villfranche by tram then bus. On arrival at the apartment Heidi met us with the keys and showed us round. The apartment has all you could need for cooking and laundry. It also has air con in the living area and both bedrooms which was a massive plus for us as the temperature was high when we were there. The balcony was a good size and the view was fantastic. It's location was also hard to beat. The bus stops and train station are a 5-10 walk, as is the seafront and beach. Villefranche itself is a beautiful town with plenty of places to shop and eat out. Nice is only about 20 mins on the bus and Monaco about 20 mins on the train. We had a fantastic holiday and will definitely return to stay in Eamon's apartment.

Great location and view over bay

Great location and Hede met us to explain parking and features of the apartment. Lovely apartment with all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. There was an issue with the air con when we arrived but Eamon and Hede sorted it out to ensure we had a confortable stay. We would not hesitate to book this lovely apartment again should we ever return to the Riviera.

The perfect apartment for enjoying the Cote d' Azur

My boyfriend and I spent 8 nights in this great apartment. The view from the spacious terrace is spectacular. The location is perfect. Close to everything: Train station, beach, bus stop and a fabulous Patisserie that is less than a 5 minute walk away. The property manager, Sue, was very helpful upon our arrival with mapping out locations for restaurants, markets and things to do. We will definitely be back!

Villefranche sur mer delight

My husband and I loved our stay in Villefranche at this property! It was everything I was looking for in a centrally located property. The highlight was the large balcony with an expansive view of the water and the village. This location was close to bus and train transport. Only minutes away from dining and the water. We will return to this property again! I highly recommend it.

The Perfect Location to Enjoy The Côte D'Azur

We returned again this year to this lovely apartment in Villefranche. The location is ideal for exploring the Côte D'Azur. The apartment is clean and well appointed. The terrace has breathtaking views of the Bay of Villefranche and is the perfect spot to enjoy morning coffee and afternoon cocktails. The area is quiet and close to everything, including the tourism office, the market and patisserie. We will be back.

A fabulous place for a vacation

We were absolutely delighted with our stay here. The apartment is wonderful--even better than it appears in the pictures. It was spacious, spotless and had all the amenities you could possibly need. The terrace has spectacular views day and night and is a lovely spot to sit and relax after a day of sightseeing. Villefranche is a beautiful village and is perfectly situated to visit all the cities along the coast quickly and easily by train. But the best part is returning to your own little "home" at the end of the day. I would highly recommend this apartment.

Fabulous place!

A friend and I rented this condo for a month while studying French at the Institut de Francais and it was perfect for us. First, the condo itself is very comfortable. The beds in both rooms are great. Both bathrooms are a nice size. The very best thing, though, is the view from the deck. It is nothing short of fabulous. We spent every bit of time we could on that deck. The condo also has a wonderful location close to the modern town but also a very easy walk to the vieille ville. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. In fact, I hope to.

exceptional

we stayed a week in this lovely apartment along with another couple. The apartment is a generous size with two bedrooms/two baths and is well equipped, spotlessly clean and well maintained with quality furnishings and appliances. The view from the large deck is not to be missed with large sliding doors that open fully to allow an uninterrupted view from the lounge and kitchen inside as well as from the deck. It is a lovely spot to sip an afternoon glass of wine after being out and about during the day. This is an exceptional vacation home, convenient to the main road for transit, shopping and exploring, yet is a short walk down to the waterfront for numerous restaurants and the ambiance of Villefranche.

Superb apartment, the view is unbelievable!

We had a wonderful vacation and could not have chosen a more perfect place to stay. The apartment is exactly as shown and even perhaps better as you can not capture the beauty of the view and the balcony on pictures. Have no worries, you will find everything you need and more. It was also very nice and welcoming to have Heidi greet us in person. The town of Villefranche-sur-Mer is charming and so unique. Everything you need is at short walking distance. Including a great beach! I would go back in a heartbeat. Take the time to go on the website of the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer to learn about current events; outdoor movie by the water was quite spectacular! And you will also find info on parking; there is a one week pass for visitors available for 25 Euros and you can park anywhere where there are city meters, which includes street parking a a couple of parking lot. It was perfect!

Skiing while staying in Villefranche

We spent two wonderful weeks in Villefranche at Belle Epoque. This year we did something different by taking the bus (Nice's gare routiere, Nice, or Nice airport) for 1 euro to Isola 2000 for two days of skiing. It's a 2 l/2 hour bus ride (you could also bus to Auron which is 2 hours). We rented skis and boots right at the hotel (Hotel du Soleil Le Chastillon via booking.com) and skied out the door to 360 degrees of ski slopes. This is the Alpes Maritimes, so the skiing is equivalent to some of the slopes in Colorado at 8-9000 ft. There was not a cloud in the sky both days, and the skiing was varied, with mid-slope huts offering sun deck chairs and lodges for respite and imbibing. We enjoyed it so much, we are thinking of bringing our grandchildren next time. The trip only increased our love for the south of France!

A Wonderful Apartment in Villefranche-Sur-Mer!

Our family spent 5 glorious nights in this apartment in mid-June 2011. Weather was fantastic, views from the terrace were sunsplashed and beautiful. The apartment was very comfortable and nicely appointed. Short walk to great boulangeries and cafes. No need for a car (probably a liability on the winding switchback roads), the bus system works very well and is inexpensive. Enjoyed the delicious moules and canard at a cafe across from Eglise St. Pierre, and the salades nicoise at the beach cafe was tasty. The short trip to the Villa on Cap Ferrat is defintely worth a visit--beautiful chateau and gardens. And don't worry about the creme brulees and profiteroles adding any girth to your waistline--the walk up and down the steps to the beach and cafes will help to keep you in shape! Sue, the property manager was very helpful in getting us oriented and set up. The bottle of rose in fridge waiting for us was a very nice touch. Jean-Frederique, the driver, was very friendly and helped us work on our french. We can't wait to return to VSM and Eclat de Couleur!

Second Time Around Just as Wonderful as First Time

A couple of years ago my husband and I stayed in the one bedroom apartment, La Belle Epoque. We loved it and said we would be back. Unfortunately due to illnesses we couldn't get back till this past June. We were celebrating my husbands' life so we took 3 Grandkids and their parents to Italy on a tour and then to Villfranche to relax. Because we were seven we needed La Belle Epoque (the one bedroom) and Eclat de Couleur (the two bedroom) which were side by side apartments. Actually the only 2 apartments on the 2nd floor. From beginning to end the experience was wonderful. Eamon McCullogh, the owner was so responsive. He remembered us for the first time which made me feel good. But whether he did or not, he couldn't have treated us better. Our lease came timely, payment thought paypal was easy, he notified his manager (Susan Miller) of our arrival. She then sent an email requesting our arrival info so she could get us an English speaking driver from the Nice Airport. She met us on arrival and showed us how to use everything in both apartments. Each apartment is different. The one bedroom is decorated in more of a european style while the 2 bedroom is more modern in decor. The beds in both apartments were extremely comfortable. Both apartments were spotless. The location is terrific. You can walk to everything, the bus stop (pay 1.50 Euro to go anywhere), the train station is a 5 minute walk in town and you can go to Monaco, or the other direction and hit all of the Cote d'Azure! You don't need to bring many clothes since everything is so casual and there is a washing machine in each apartment. We usually ate breakfast in.. my husband would go to the local produce guy for fresh eggs, then the butcher for bacon, and the pastry shop for baguettes and croissants. There is nothing more you need. We would go to the beach during the day or go see the sights and then mostly bar b q on the lanai for dinner. The view from the apartment is unbelievable. You can stare at it for ever!!! I don't know what else to say except you need to go and see it for yourself. Thank you to Eamon and Susan for a wonderful trip!

Excellent choice for relaxing visit to Cote d'Azur

My husband and I spent a week in this lovely apartment. Eclat de Couleur offered all the amenities we needed for a pleasant stay. We were in the middle of a three week trip and were grateful for the well-appointed kitchen so we could fix our own meals when we wished, particularly as we also like to grill and the BBQ on the terrace was great. We also made good use of the washing machine and drying rack, which worked perfectly for our needs. The bed in the master was very comfortable. The bathrooms were a good size and also well-appointed. We kept the sliding doors open to the terrace day and evening, and the indoor/outdoor effect plus the beautiful view was fabulous. We only tried the television once, and found that the Sky satellite channels weren’t working too well at that time. The location was very convenient to both the old town and the upper town. Using the local buses for transportation was very simple and handy. We walked to Nice one day, but the bus is of course much quicker and also a convenient way to get to the supermarket at the top of the hill between Villefranche and the Old Port in Nice. We also walked to Beaulieu sur Mer and St. Jean Cap Ferat, but took the bus as well, and connected to the bus for Eze. The busses ran smoothly and relatively on schedule each time. We got bus schedules from the Tourist Office in Villefrache just down the street from the apartment. The walk to/from the old town was short enough to be quick but long enough to get a bit of exercise after some wonderful meals at our favorite restaurants; Les Garcons, La Belle Etoile, Les Palmiers and Cosmo. We did major food shopping at the supermarket mentioned above, and also bought basics at the Casino in the old town. We visited the baker down the street near the park every morning for fresh croissants and bread. There was also a green grocer next door to the bakery that was very good. For meat we used the butcher down the hill in the old town. The beach in Villefranche is nice but we opted to take the short walk to Beaulieu sur Mer for a beach restaurant with lounges and umbrellas for rent. The property manager, Sue, arranged taxis to and from the airport in Nice which was very convenient. She met us and provided an overview of the apartment. There was also a bottle of rose’ and fresh flowers which was a nice surprise. We hope to stay here again on our next trip to the area.

About the host

Host profile image
Eileen and I live in Ireland, north of Dublin. As we are in our mid seventies, retired and our family grown-up we lead a less stressful life and enjoy hill walking and travel. We visit Villefranche three to four times a year thanks to Ryan Air!!! We have always loved holidaying in France, having taken many 'gite' holidays with the children. We love their food, their life style, the brightness / light of the South of France and particularly the friendliness of the Nicoise.

Why they chose this property

In 2005 we were fortunate in buying 'Eclat de Couleur'. We chose this apartment because of its wonderful Sea View Terrace and its location being close to restaurants, shops and bus stops in the Old Town of Villefranche and being on the Cote d'Azur. It is bright and airy. The terrace is a wonderful sun trap with the enchanting colours of the Bay, the Terracotta of the Old Town roofs against the pine forests of the Cap Ferrat. It has an excellent location being a five minute walk to the shops, restaurants and bus stop and ten minutes to the sandy beach. A bus every fifteen minutes to Nice or Monaco at 2€ per trip gives you excellent opportunities for day trips.

What makes this property unique

What attracted us to this apartment:- the proximity of a sandy south facing beach, The private south eastern facing balcony with the vibrant view of Villefranche Bay and an excellent location being 10 mins from Nice. It allows us to holiday without a car, choosing instead public transport for day trips along the coast or inland exploring the valleys of Maritime Provence. Buses are cheap, clean and frequent.
The apartment is a great base for day-trips. Popular trips are Monaco, Nice for shopping, art galleries, Promenade des Anglais, the Old Town and Flower Market. Further afield there is St Paul de Vence for art, Cannes and its Croisette, Ventimiglia and San Remo (Italy) for their market
A walk to Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild for its villa, formal gardens and fountains, not forgetting a coffee and a choice of the best gateaux on the Cote d'Azur is always worthwhile.
Being avid hill walkers we love to head off on the bus up to the hills behind Nice, La Turbie or Menton.
On Summer evenings another favorite is to grab the swimming gear, pick up a bottle of wine and pizza and head for the beach and enjoy the setting sun over Mont Albion and the waves lapping the sea shore.
During the Winter season we have enjoyed classical concerts and an opera from the varied programs in Nice, Monaco and Cannes.
